They came to Jericho. As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus the son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside.

When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, "Son of David, Jesus, pity me!"

Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." They called the blind man, saying, "Courage; rise up; he is calling you."

He, throwing aside his cloak, sprang up and came to Jesus.

Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man said, "Rabboni, I want to regain my sight."

Jesus said, "Go. Your faith has healed you." At once he could see and followed Jesus along the road.
