24 When John’s 7:24 messengers ¦ disciples ANTmessengers had gone away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 25 What then did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who are dressed in splendid clothing and who live in luxury are in royal palaces. 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 27 This is the one of whom it is written,
‘Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of yoʋ,
who will prepare yoʋr way before yoʋ.’
28 7:28 For ¦ --- CT For I tell you, among those born of women there is no 7:28 prophet ¦ one CTprophet greater than John 7:28 the Baptist ¦ --- CTthe Baptist, but whoever is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." 29 (When all the people heard this, including the tax collectors, they affirmed that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized with the baptism of John. 30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.)
