3 Als Herodes , der König, dieses hörte, ward er bestürzt, und mit ihm ganz Jerusalem.

4 Er ließ alle Oberpriester und Schriftlehrer des Volkes zusammenkommen, und befragte sie, wo Christus würde geboren werden.

5 Sie aber sagten ihm: zu Bethlehem in Judäa; denn so steht es geschrieben bei dem Propheten:

6 Und du, Bethlehem im Lande Juda! bist keinesweges die geringste unter den Fürsten Juda; denn aus dir wird ein Fürst auftreten, der mein Volk Israel regieren wird.

7 Hierauf ließ Herodes die Weisen insgeheim rufen, und erkundigte sich genau bei ihnen, um welche Zeit der Stern ihnen erschienen sey.

8 Und er schickte sie nach Bethlehem und sprach: Gehet, forschet mit Sorgfalt nach dem Knaben; und findet ihr ihn, so gebet mir Nachricht, damit ich auch hingehe und ihn anbete.

3 And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born. 5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judæa: for thus it is written through the prophet,

6 And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah,

Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah:

For out of thee shall come forth a governor,

Who shall be shepherd of my people Israel.

7 Then Herod privily called the Wise-men, and learned of them exactly what time the star appeared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search out exactly concerning the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word, that I also may come and worship him.
