54 Sie verhafteten Jesus und brachten ihn in das Haus vom Oberpriester. Petrus folgte der Menschengruppe in sicherem Abstand.

55 Als die Wachleute eine Feuertonne im Hof klarmachten, stellte sich Petrus zu ihnen.

56 Eine Hausangestellte erkannte im Feuerschein sein Gesicht: „Du gehörst doch auch zu diesem Jesus!", sagte sie.

57 Petrus stritt das sofort ab: „Mann, Alte, ich kenne diesen Typen überhaupt nicht!"

58 Kurze Zeit später sah ihn ein anderer Mann an und sagte: „Sie gehören doch auch zu dem da, oder?" „Nein, verdammt, Sie verwechseln mich!"

59 Ungefähr eine Stunde später war sich ein Typ ganz sicher: „Hundertpro! Der gehörte doch zu seinen Schülern, der kommt auch aus Galiläa, so, wie der redet!"

60 Petrus tat aber ganz entrüstet: „Wovon reden Sie eigentlich?" Und in dieser Sekunde schlug die Uhr zwei Mal.

61 Jesus sah sich nach Petrus um. Und da erinnerte der sich, dass Jesus ihm die Ansage gemacht hatte: „Bevor es zwei Uhr wird, hast du mich dreimal verraten."

62 Und Petrus ging raus und fing tierisch an zu heulen.

54 And they seized him, and led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed afar off. 55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and had sat down together, Peter sat in the midst of them. 56 And a certain maid seeing him as he sat in the light of the fire, and looking stedfastly upon him, said, This man also was with him. 57 But he denied, saying, Woman, I know him not. 58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou also art one of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not. 59 And after the space of about one hour another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this man also was with him; for he is a Galilæan. 60 But Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. 61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said unto him, Before the cock crow this day thou shalt deny me thrice. 62 And he went out, and wept bitterly.
