16 Irgendwann ging Jesus mal wieder nach Nazareth, wo er aufgewachsen war. Wie gewohnt verbrachte er den Sabbat in der dortigen Synagoge.

17 Dann gab man ihm das Buch aus der Bibel, das Jesaja geschrieben hatte. Als er das Buch aufblätterte, kam gleich die Stelle, wo Jesaja schreibt:

18 „Die Kraft Gottes ist in mir, er hat mich dafür ausgesucht, um den Leuten, die arm sind und nichts haben, eine gute Nachricht zu bringen. Er will von mir, dass ich Gefangene und Süchtige befreie und Blinden die Ansage mache, dass sie wieder sehen können. Ich soll den Unterdrückten den Weg in die Freiheit zeigen und

19 folgende Nachricht an alle ausgeben: Ab jetzt fängt eine gute Zeit an, eine besondere Zeit, eine göttliche Zeit."

20 Jesus klappte das Buch wieder zusammen, gab es zurück und setzte sich. Alle sahen gebannt auf ihn.

21 Dann fing er an zu reden und begann mit dem Satz: „Heute geht das los, was die Propheten damals vorausgesagt haben."

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and he entered, as his custom was, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And he opened the book, and found the place where it was written,

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,

Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor:

He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives,

And recovering of sight to the blind,

To set at liberty them that are bruised,

19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 And he began to say unto them, To-day hath this scripture been fulfilled in your ears.
