9 and he said to her, Who art thou? She answered, I am Ruth, thine handmaid; stretch forth thy cloth on thy servantess, for thou art nigh of kin.
10 And he said, Daughter, thou art blessed of the Lord, and thou hast overcome the former mercy with the latter; for thou followedest not young men, poor either rich.
17 And Ruth said, Lo! he gave to me six measures of barley; and he said, I will or desire not that thou turn again void to thy mother-in-law.
9 And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.3.9 a near…: or, one that hath right to redeem 10 And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
17 And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.
9 "Who are you?" he asked.
"I am your servant Ruth," she said. "Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a guardian-redeemer3:9 The Hebrew word for guardian-redeemer is a legal term for one who has the obligation to redeem a relative in serious difficulty (see Lev. 25:25-55); also in verses 12 and 13. of our family."
10 "The Lord bless you, my daughter," he replied. "This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier: You have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor.
17 and added, "He gave me these six measures of barley, saying, ‘Don’t go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’ "
9 He said, "Who are you?" And she answered, "I am Ruth, your servant. Ezek. 16:8;[Deut. 22:30] Spread your wings3:9 Compare 2:12; the word for wings can also mean corners of a garment over your servant, for you are ch. 2:20a redeemer." 10 And he said, See ch. 2:20"May you be blessed by the Lord, my daughter. You have made this last kindness greater than ch. 1:8the first in that you have not gone after young men, whether poor or rich.
17 saying, "These six measures of barley he gave to me, for he said to me, ‘You must not go back empty-handed to your mother-in-law.’"
9 "Who are you?" he asked.
"I am your servant Ruth," she replied. "Spread the corner of your covering over me, for you are my family redeemer."
10 "The Lord bless you, my daughter!" Boaz exclaimed. "You are showing even more family loyalty now than you did before, for you have not gone after a younger man, whether rich or poor.
17 and she added, "He gave me these six scoops of barley and said, ‘Don’t go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’"
9 And he said, "Who are you?"
So she answered, "I am Ruth, your maidservant. Ezek. 16:8Take your maidservant under your wing, for you are Ruth 2:20; 3:12a close relative."
10 Then he said, Ruth 2:20"Blessed are you of the Lord, my daughter! For you have shown more kindness at the end than Ruth 1:8at the beginning, in that you did not go after young men, whether poor or rich.
17 And she said, "These six ephahs of barley he gave me; for he said to me, ‘Do not go empty-handed to your mother-in-law.’ "
9 So he said, "Who are you?" And she answered, "I am Ruth your slave. Now spread your garment over your slave, for you are a redeemer." 10 Then he said, "May you be blessed of the Lord, my daughter. You have shown your last kindness to be better than the first, by not going after young men, whether poor or rich.
17 She also said, "These six measures of barley he gave to me, for he said, ‘Do not go to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’ "
9 So he asked, "Who are you? "
"I am Ruth, your servant," she replied. "Take me under your wing, 3:9 Or "Spread the edge of your garment; lit "Spread the wing of your garment; Ru 2:12, 3:9 Ezk 16:8 for you are a family redeemer." 3:9 Ru 2:12
10 Then he said, "May the Lord bless you, 3:10 Ru 2:20 my daughter. You have shown more kindness now than before, 3:10 Lit kindness at the last than at the first because you have not pursued younger men, whether rich or poor.
17 She said, "He gave me these six measures of barley, because he said, 3:17 Alt Hb tradition, LXX, Syr, Tg read said to me ‘Don’t go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’ "
9 And he said to her: Who art thou? And she answered: I am Ruth thy handmaid: spread thy coverlet over thy servant, for thou art a near kinsman. 10 And he said: Blessed art thou of the Lord, my daughter, and thy latter kindness has surpassed the former: because thou hast not followed young men either poor or rich. 17 And she said: Behold he hath given me six measures of barley: for he said: I will not have thee return empty to thy mother in law.
