1 Now a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead. You know that your servant feared Yahweh. Now the creditor has come to take for himself my two children to be slaves."

2 Elisha said to her, "What should I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?"

She said, "Your servant has nothing in the house, except a pot of oil."

3 Then he said, "Go, borrow empty containers from all your neighbors. Don’t borrow just a few containers. 4 Go in and shut the door on you and on your sons, and pour oil into all those containers; and set aside those which are full."

5 So she went from him, and shut the door on herself and on her sons. They brought the containers to her, and she poured oil. 6 When the containers were full, she said to her son, "Bring me another container."

He said to her, "There isn’t another container." Then the oil stopped flowing.

7 Then she came and told the man of God. He said, "Go, sell the oil, and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest."

1 Und ein Weib von den Weibern der Söhne der Propheten schrie zu Elisa und sprach: Dein Knecht, mein Mann, ist gestorben, und du weißt ja, daß dein Knecht Jehova fürchtete; und der Schuldherr ist gekommen, um sich meine beiden Knaben zu Knechten zu nehmen.

2 Und Elisa sprach zu ihr: Was soll ich für dich tun? Sage mir, was du im Hause hast. Und sie sprach: Deine Magd hat gar nichts im Hause, als nur einen Krug Öl. {O. eine Salbung Öl, d.h. so viel als hinreicht, um sich zu salben}

3 Und er sprach: Gehe hin, erbitte dir Gefäße von draußen, von allen deinen Nachbarn, leere Gefäße, nimm nicht wenige;

4 und gehe hinein und schließe die Tür hinter dir und hinter deinen Söhnen zu, und gieße in alle diese Gefäße; und was voll ist, setze beiseite.

5 Und sie ging von ihm weg und schloß die Tür hinter sich und hinter ihren Söhnen zu; diese reichten ihr, und sie goß ein.

6 Und es geschah, als die Gefäße voll waren, da sprach sie zu ihrem Sohne: Reiche mir noch ein Gefäß. Aber er sprach zu ihr: Es ist kein Gefäß mehr da. Und das Öl stand.

7 Und sie kam und berichtete es dem Manne Gottes; und er sprach: Gehe hin, verkaufe das Öl und bezahle deine Schuld; du aber und deine Söhne, lebet von dem Übrigen.
