6 if anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, who are not accused of loose or unruly behavior. 7 For the overseer must be blameless, as God’s steward, not self-pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain; 8 but given to hospitality, a lover of good, sober minded, fair, holy, self-controlled, 9 holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict those who contradict him.

6 Wenn jemand untadelig ist, eines Weibes Mann, der gläubige Kinder hat, die nicht eines ausschweifenden Lebens beschuldigt oder zügellos sind.

7 Denn der Aufseher muß untadelig sein als Gottes Verwalter, nicht eigenmächtig, nicht zornmütig, nicht dem Wein ergeben, nicht ein Schläger, nicht schändlichem Gewinn nachgehend,

8 sondern gastfrei, das Gute liebend, besonnen, O. gesunden Sinnes; so auch nachher gerecht, fromm, O. heilig enthaltsam,

9 anhangend dem zuverlässigen Worte nach der Lehre, O. Belehrung auf daß er fähig sei, sowohl mit der gesunden Lehre zu ermahnen, O. ermuntern als auch die Widersprechenden zu überführen.
