1 Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Go in to Pharaoh, and tell him, ‘This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: "Let my people go, that they may serve me. 2 For if you refuse to let them go, and hold them still, 3 behold, Yahweh’s hand is on your livestock which are in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the herds, and on the flocks with a very grievous pestilence. 4 Yahweh will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt; and nothing shall die of all that belongs to the children of Israel."’" 5 Yahweh appointed a set time, saying, "Tomorrow Yahweh shall do this thing in the land." 6 Yahweh did that thing on the next day; and all the livestock of Egypt died, but of the livestock of the children of Israel, not one died. 7 Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not so much as one of the livestock of the Israelites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he didn’t let the people go.

8 Yahweh said to Moses and to Aaron, "Take handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the sky in the sight of Pharaoh. 9 It shall become small dust over all the land of Egypt, and shall be boils and blisters breaking out on man and on animal, throughout all the land of Egypt."

10 They took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward the sky; and it became boils and blisters breaking out on man and on animal. 11 The magicians couldn’t stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boils were on the magicians and on all the Egyptians. 12 Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he didn’t listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken to Moses.

13 Yahweh said to Moses, "Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and tell him, ‘This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: "Let my people go, that they may serve me. 14 For this time I will send all my plagues against your heart, against your officials, and against your people; that you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth. 15 For now I would have stretched out my hand, and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth; 16 but indeed for this cause I have made you stand: to show you my power, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth, 17 because you still exalt yourself against my people, that you won’t let them go. 18 Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt since the day it was founded even until now. 19 Now therefore command that all of your livestock and all that you have in the field be brought into shelter. The hail will come down on every man and animal that is found in the field, and isn’t brought home, and they will die."’"

20 Those who feared Yahweh’s word among the servants of Pharaoh made their servants and their livestock flee into the houses. 21 Whoever didn’t respect Yahweh’s word left his servants and his livestock in the field.

22 Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, on man, and on animal, and on every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt."

23 Moses stretched out his rod toward the heavens, and Yahweh sent thunder and hail; and lightning flashed down to the earth. Yahweh rained hail on the land of Egypt. 24 So there was very severe hail, and lightning mixed with the hail, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25 The hail struck throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and animal; and the hail struck every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field. 26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, there was no hail.

27 Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, "I have sinned this time. Yahweh is righteous, and I and my people are wicked. 28 Pray to Yahweh; for there has been enough of mighty thunderings and hail. I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer."

29 Moses said to him, "As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands to Yahweh. The thunders shall cease, and there will not be any more hail; that you may know that the earth is Yahweh’s. 30 But as for you and your servants, I know that you don’t yet fear Yahweh God."

31 The flax and the barley were struck, for the barley had ripened and the flax was blooming. 32 But the wheat and the spelt were not struck, for they had not grown up. 33 Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread out his hands to Yahweh; and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured on the earth. 34 When Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders had ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants. 35 The heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he didn’t let the children of Israel go, just as Yahweh had spoken through Moses.

1 O Senhor disse a Moisés:

— Apresente-se a Faraó e diga-lhe: Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus dos hebreus: "Deixe o meu povo ir, para que me adore. 2 Porque, se você se recusar a deixá-los ir e ainda por força quiser detê-los, 3 eis que a mão do Senhor trará uma terrível peste sobre o seu rebanho, que está no campo, sobre os cavalos, sobre os jumentos, sobre os camelos, sobre o gado e sobre as ovelhas. 4 E o Senhor fará distinção entre os rebanhos de Israel e o rebanho do Egito, para que nada morra de tudo o que pertence aos filhos de Israel. 5 O Senhor designou certo tempo, dizendo: Amanhã o Senhor fará isto na terra."

6 E o Senhor o fez no dia seguinte, e todo o rebanho dos egípcios morreu; porém, do rebanho dos israelitas, não morreu um único animal. 7 Faraó mandou verificar, e eis que do rebanho de Israel não havia morrido nem um sequer. Mas o coração de Faraó se endureceu, e ele não deixou o povo ir.

8 Então o Senhor disse a Moisés e a Arão:

— Peguem mãos cheias de cinza de um forno, e que Moisés atire essa cinza para o ar diante de Faraó. 9 Ela se transformará em pó fino sobre toda a terra do Egito e em tumores que se arrebentem em úlceras nas pessoas e nos animais, por toda a terra do Egito.

10 Eles pegaram cinza de um forno e se apresentaram a Faraó. Moisés atirou a cinza para o ar, e ela se transformou em tumores que se arrebentavam em úlceras nas pessoas e nos animais. 11 Os magos não puderam permanecer diante de Moisés, por causa dos tumores, porque havia tumores nos magos e em todos os egípcios. 12 Porém o Senhor endureceu o coração de Faraó, e este não os ouviu, como o Senhor tinha dito a Moisés.

13 O Senhor disse a Moisés:

— Levante-se de manhã cedo, apresente-se a Faraó e diga-lhe: Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus dos hebreus: "Deixe o meu povo ir, para que me adore. 14 Pois desta vez enviarei todas as minhas pragas sobre o seu coração, sobre os seus oficiais e sobre o seu povo, para que você saiba que em toda a terra não há ninguém que seja semelhante a mim. 15 Pois eu já poderia ter estendido a mão para ferir você e o seu povo com peste, e você teria sido cortado da terra. 16 Mas, em verdade, foi para isso que eu o mantive: para mostrar a você o meu poder, e para que o meu nome seja anunciado em toda a terra. 17 Você ainda vai se levantar contra o meu povo, para não deixá-lo ir? 18 Eis que amanhã, por este tempo, farei cair uma forte chuva de pedras, como nunca houve no Egito, desde o dia em que foi fundado até hoje. 19 Agora, pois, mande recolher o seu gado e tudo o que você tem no campo. Todas as pessoas e os animais que estiverem no campo e não forem levados para casa morrerão ao cair sobre eles a chuva de pedras."

20 Aqueles oficiais de Faraó que temiam a palavra do Senhor fizeram com que os seus servos e o seu gado fugissem para as casas; 21 aqueles, porém, que não se importavam com a palavra do Senhor deixaram que os seus servos e o seu gado ficassem no campo.

22 Então o Senhor disse a Moisés:

— Estenda a mão para o céu, e cairá chuva de pedras em toda a terra do Egito, sobre as pessoas, sobre animais e sobre toda planta do campo na terra do Egito.

23 E Moisés estendeu o seu bordão para o céu e o Senhor deu trovões e chuva de pedras, e fogo desceu sobre a terra. E o Senhor fez cair chuva de pedras sobre a terra do Egito. 24 De maneira que havia chuva de pedras e fogo misturado com a chuva de pedras tão grave, como nunca houve em toda a terra do Egito, desde que veio a ser uma nação. 25 Por toda a terra do Egito a chuva de pedras destruiu tudo o que havia no campo, tanto pessoas como animais. A chuva de pedras destruiu também todas as plantas do campo e quebrou todas as árvores do campo. 26 Somente na terra de Gósen, onde estavam os filhos de Israel, não houve chuva de pedras.

27 Então Faraó mandou chamar Moisés e Arão e lhes disse:

— Desta vez pequei. O Senhor é justo, porém eu e o meu povo somos ímpios. 28 Orem ao Senhor, pois já bastam estes grandes trovões e a chuva de pedras. Eu os deixarei ir, e vocês não ficarão mais aqui.

29 Moisés respondeu:

— Quando eu sair da cidade, estenderei as mãos ao Senhor. Os trovões cessarão, e já não haverá chuva de pedras, para que você saiba que a terra é do Senhor. 30 Mas quanto a você e aos seus oficiais, eu sei que ainda não temem o Senhor Deus.

31 O linho e a cevada foram destruídos, pois a cevada já estava na espiga e o linho estava em flor. 32 Porém o trigo e o centeio não sofreram dano, porque ainda não haviam nascido.

33 Moisés saiu da presença de Faraó e da cidade e estendeu as mãos ao Senhor. Cessaram os trovões e a chuva de pedras, e não caiu mais chuva sobre a terra. 34 Quando Faraó viu que cessaram as chuvas, as pedras e os trovões, tornou a pecar e endureceu o coração, ele e os seus oficiais. 35 E assim Faraó, de coração endurecido, não deixou ir os filhos de Israel, como o Senhor tinha dito a Moisés.
