1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the Good News of God, 2 which he promised before through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3 concerning his Son, who was born of the offspring of David according to the flesh, 4 who was declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5 through whom we received grace and apostleship for obedience of faith among all the nations for his name’s sake; 6 among whom you are also called to belong to Jesus Christ; 7 to all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, that your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world. 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the Good News of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you always in my prayers, 10 requesting, if by any means now at last I may be prospered by the will of God to come to you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, to the end that you may be established; 12 that is, that I with you may be encouraged in you, each of us by the other’s faith, both yours and mine.

13 Now I don’t desire to have you unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you (and was hindered so far), that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles. 14 I am debtor both to Greeks and to foreigners, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So as much as is in me, I am eager to preach the Good News to you also who are in Rome.

16 For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, because it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first, and also for the Greek. 17 For in it is revealed God’s righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, "But the righteous shall live by faith."

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known of God is revealed in them, for God revealed it to them. 20 For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. 21 Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, four-footed animals, and creeping things. 24 Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves; 25 who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error. 28 Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers, 30 backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.

1 Paulo, servo de Cristo Jesus, chamado para ser apóstolo, separado para o evangelho de Deus, 2 que ele, no passado, prometeu por meio dos seus profetas nas Escrituras Sagradas. 3 Este evangelho diz respeito a seu Filho, o qual, segundo a carne, veio da descendência de Davi 4 e foi designado Filho de Deus com poder, segundo o Espírito de santidade, pela ressurreição dos mortos, a saber, Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor. 5 Por meio dele viemos a receber graça e apostolado por amor do seu nome, para a obediência da fé, entre todos os gentios. 6 Entre esses se encontram também vocês que foram chamados para pertencerem a Jesus Cristo. 7 A todos os amados de Deus que estão em Roma, chamados para ser santos.

Que a graça e a paz de Deus, nosso Pai, e do Senhor Jesus Cristo estejam com vocês.

8 Em primeiro lugar, por meio de Jesus Cristo, dou graças ao meu Deus por todos vocês, porque a fé que vocês têm é proclamada no mundo inteiro. 9 Pois Deus, a quem sirvo em meu espírito, no evangelho de seu Filho, é minha testemunha de como nunca deixo de fazer menção de vocês 10 em todas as minhas orações, pedindo que, em algum momento, pela vontade de Deus, surja uma oportunidade de visitá-los. 11 Porque desejo muito vê-los, a fim de repartir com vocês algum dom espiritual, para que vocês sejam fortalecidos, 12 isto é, para que nos consolemos uns aos outros por meio da fé mútua: a de vocês e a minha.

13 Quero que vocês saibam, irmãos, que muitas vezes me propus a ir visitá-los — no que tenho sido, até agora, impedido —, para conseguir algum fruto igualmente entre vocês, assim como também tenho conseguido entre os outros gentios. 14 Pois sou devedor tanto a gregos como a bárbaros, tanto a sábios como a insensatos. 15 Por isso, quanto a mim, estou pronto a anunciar o evangelho também a vocês que estão em Roma.

16 Pois não me envergonho do evangelho, porque é o poder de Deus para a salvação de todo aquele que crê, primeiro do judeu e também do grego. 17 Porque a justiça de Deus se revela no evangelho, de fé em fé, como está escrito: "O justo viverá por fé."

18 A ira de Deus se revela do céu contra toda impiedade e injustiça dos seres humanos que, por meio da sua injustiça, suprimem a verdade. 19 Pois o que se pode conhecer a respeito de Deus é manifesto entre eles, porque Deus lhes manifestou. 20 Porque os atributos invisíveis de Deus, isto é, o seu eterno poder e a sua divindade, claramente se reconhecem, desde a criação do mundo, sendo percebidos por meio das coisas que Deus fez. Por isso, os seres humanos são indesculpáveis. 21 Porque, tendo conhecimento de Deus, não o glorificaram como Deus, nem lhe deram graças. Pelo contrário, se tornaram nulos em seus próprios raciocínios, e o coração insensato deles se obscureceu. 22 Dizendo que eram sábios, se tornaram tolos 23 e trocaram a glória do Deus incorruptível por imagens semelhantes ao ser humano corruptível, às aves, aos quadrúpedes e aos répteis.

24 Por isso, Deus os entregou à impureza, pelos desejos do coração deles, para desonrarem o seu corpo entre si. 25 Eles trocaram a verdade de Deus pela mentira, adorando e servindo a criatura em lugar do Criador, o qual é bendito para sempre. Amém!

26 Por causa disso, Deus os entregou a paixões vergonhosas. Porque até as mulheres trocaram o modo natural das relações íntimas por outro, contrário à natureza. 27 Da mesma forma, também os homens, deixando o contato natural da mulher, se inflamaram mutuamente em sua sensualidade, cometendo indecência, homens com homens, e recebendo, em si mesmos, a merecida punição do seu erro.

28 E, por haverem desprezado o conhecimento de Deus, o próprio Deus os entregou a um modo de pensar reprovável, para praticarem coisas que não convêm. 29 Estão cheios de todo tipo de injustiça, perversidade, avareza e maldade. Estão cheios de inveja, homicídio, discórdia, engano e malícia. São difamadores, 30 caluniadores, inimigos de Deus, insolentes, arrogantes, orgulhosos, inventores de males, desobedientes aos pais, 31 insensatos, desleais, sem afeição natural e sem misericórdia. 32 Embora conheçam a sentença de Deus, de que os que praticam tais coisas são passíveis de morte, eles não somente as fazem, mas também aprovam os que as praticam.
