24 One with many friends may be harmed,  *

but there is a friend who stays closer than a brother.  *

17 A friend loves at all times,  *

and a brother is born for a difficult time.

9 Oil  * and incense bring joy to the heart,

and the sweetness of a friend is better than self-counsel.  *

11 Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also must love one another.  *12 No one has ever seen God.  * If we love one another, God remains in  * us and his love is made complete in us.

16 This is how we have come to know love: He laid down his life  * for us.  * We should also lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.  *17 If anyone has this world’s goods  * and sees a fellow believer  * in need  * but withholds compassion  * from him — how does God’s love reside in him?  *18 Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in action and in truth.  *

23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,  *,* and he was called God’s friend.  *

10 Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters.  * Take the lead in honoring one another.  *

9 Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts. 10 For if either falls, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to lift him up.

1 How delightfully good

when brothers live together in harmony!  *
