A single day in your courts

is better than a thousand anywhere else!

I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God

than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.

The one thing I ask of the Lord

the thing I seek most

is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,

delighting in the Lords perfections

and meditating in his Temple.

What joy for those you choose to bring near,

those who live in your holy courts.

What festivities await us

inside your holy Temple.

A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. A psalm of David.

I was glad when they said to me,

"Let us go to the house of the Lord."

Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me

all the days of my life,

and I will live in the house of the Lord

forever.

But I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God.

I will always trust in God’s unfailing love.

Passion for your house has consumed me,

and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.

O templo

Minha casa será chamada casa de oração. O zelo da tua casa me consumiu. O verdadeiro templo é o corpo do cristão.

Jesus Clears the Temple

Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out all the people buying and selling animals for sacrifice. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves. He said to them, "The Scriptures declare, My Temple will be called a house of prayer, but you have turned it into a den of thieves!"

Jesus Clears the Temple

It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so Jesus went to Jerusalem. In the Temple area he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices; he also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money. Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and cattle, scattered the money changerscoins over the floor, and turned over their tables. Then, going over to the people who sold doves, he told them, "Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace!"

Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: "Passion for God’s house will consume me."

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,

so that if I am delayed, you will know how people must conduct themselves in the household of God. This is the church of the living God, which is the pillar and foundation of the truth.

But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.

"Our ancestors carried the Tabernacle with them through the wilderness. It was constructed according to the plan God had shown to Moses. Years later, when Joshua led our ancestors in battle against the nations that God drove out of this land, the Tabernacle was taken with them into their new territory. And it stayed there until the time of King David.

"David found favor with God and asked for the privilege of building a permanent Temple for the God of Jacob. But it was Solomon who actually built it. However, the Most High doesn’t live in temples made by human hands. As the prophet says,

Heaven is my throne,

and the earth is my footstool.

Could you build me a temple as good as that?

asks the Lord.

Could you build me such a resting place?

Didn’t my hands make both heaven and earth?

This is what the Lord says:

"Heaven is my throne,

and the earth is my footstool.

Could you build me a temple as good as that?

Could you build me such a resting place?

My hands have made both heaven and earth;

they and everything in them are mine.

I, the Lord, have spoken!

"I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts,

who tremble at my word.

Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!" But he was also afraid and said, "What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God, the very gateway to heaven!"
