44 But I tell you, love your enemies*and pray for those who*persecute you,*

30 Jesus took up the question and said, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him, beat him up, and fled, leaving him half dead.31 A priest happened to be going down that road. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side.32 In the same way, a Levite, when he arrived at the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.33 But a Samaritan*on his journey came up to him, and when he saw the man, he had compassion.*34 He went over to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on olive oil*and wine. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.35 The next day*he took out two denarii,*gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him. When I come back I’ll reimburse you for whatever extra you spend.’

36 "Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers? "

37 "The one who showed mercy  * to him," he said.

Then Jesus told him, "Go and do the same."

3 Then the scribes and the Pharisees  * brought a woman caught in adultery,  * making her stand in the center. 4 "Teacher," they said to him, "this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery.  *5 In the law Moses  * commanded us to stone such women.  * So what do you say? " 6 They asked this to trap him,  * in order that they might have evidence to accuse him.

Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with his finger. 7 When they persisted in questioning him, he stood up and said to them, "The one without sin*among you*should be the first to throw a stone at her."*8 Then he stooped down again and continued writing on the ground. 9 When they heard this, they left one by one, starting with the older men. Only he was left, with the woman in the center. 10 When Jesus stood up, he said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? "

11 "No one, Lord,"  * she answered.

"Neither do I condemn you,"* said Jesus. "Go, and from now on do not sin anymore."]

A Centurion’s Faith

5 When he entered Capernaum,  * a centurion came to him, pleading with him, 6 "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, in terrible agony."

7 He said to him, "Am I to come and heal him? "*

8 "Lord," the centurion replied, "I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.  *9 For I too am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command.  * I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this! ’ and he does it."

10 Hearing this, Jesus was amazed and said to those following him, "Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with so great a faith.11 I tell you that many will come from east and west to share the banquet*with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.*12 But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."*13 Then Jesus told the centurion, "Go. As you have believed,*let it be done for you." And his servant was healed that very moment.  *

13 No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life*for his friends.
