31 But those who *wait on the Lord

*Shall renew their strength;

They shall mount up with wings like eagles,

They shall run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not faint.

God Will Be Gracious

18 Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be *gracious to you;

And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you.

For the Lordis a God of justice;

*Blessed are all those who *wait for Him.

14 *Wait on the Lord;

Be of good courage,

And He shall strengthen your heart;

Wait, I say, on the Lord!

13 Iwouldhavelostheart, unless I had believed

That I would see the goodness of the Lord

*In the land of the living.

An Exuberant Declaration of Faith

1 The Lordis my *light and my salvation;

Whom shall I fear?

The *Lordis the strength of my life;

Of whom shall I be afraid?

2 When the wicked came against me

To *eat up my flesh,

My enemies and foes,

They stumbled and fell.

3 *Though an army may encamp against me,

My heart shall not fear;

Though war may rise against me,

In this I willbe confident.

4 *One thing I have desired of the Lord,

That will I seek:

That I may *dwell in the house of the Lord

All the days of my life,

To behold the beauty of the Lord,

And to inquire in His temple.

5 For *in the time of trouble

He shall hide me in His pavilion;

In the secret place of His tabernacle

He shall hide me;

He shall *set me high upon a rock.

6 And now *my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me;

Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;

I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice!

Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.

8 WhenYousaid, "Seek My face,"

My heart said to You, "Your face, Lord, I will seek."

9 *Do not hide Your face from me;

Do not turn Your servant away in anger;

You have been my help;

Do not leave me nor forsake me,

O God of my salvation.

10 *When my father and my mother forsake me,

Then the Lord will take care of me.

11 *Teach me Your way, O Lord,

And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.

12 Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries;

For *false witnesses have risen against me,

And such as breathe out violence.

13 Iwouldhavelostheart, unless I had believed

Faith Persevering in Trial

1 I *waited patiently for the Lord;

And He inclined to me,

And heard my cry.

2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit,

Out of *the miry clay,

And *set my feet upon a rock,

And established my steps.

3 *He has put a new song in my mouth—

Praise to our God;

Many will see it and fear,

And will trust in the Lord.

4 *Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust,

And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

5 *Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works

Which You have done;

*And Your thoughts toward us

Cannot be recounted to You in order;

If I would declare and speak ofthem,

They are more than can be numbered.

6 *Sacrifice and offering You did not desire;

My ears You have opened.

Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.

7 Then I said, "Behold, I come;

In the scroll of the book itis written of me.

8 *I delight to do Your will, O my God,

And Your law is*within my heart."

9 *I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness

In the great assembly;

Indeed, *I do not restrain my lips,

O Lord, You Yourself know.

10 *I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart;

I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation;

I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth

From the great assembly.

11 Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O Lord;

*Let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me.

12 For innumerable evils have surrounded me;

*My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up;

They are more than the hairs of my head;

Therefore my heart fails me.

13 *Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me;

O Lord, make haste to help me!

14 *Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion

Who seek to destroy my life;

Let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor

Who wish me evil.

20 Our soul waits for the Lord;

He is our help and our shield.

21 For our heart shall rejoice in Him,

Because we have trusted in His holy name.

22 Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us,

Just as we hope in You.

5 *I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,

And *in His word I do hope.

6 *My soul waits for the Lord

More than those who watch for the morning—

Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.

5 My soul, wait silently for God alone,

For my expectation is from Him.

34 *Wait on the Lord,

And keep His way,

And He shall exalt you to inherit the land;

When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

5 *Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

*And lean not on your own understanding;

6 *In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He shall direct your paths.

3 And not only that, but *we also glory in tribulations, *knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 *and perseverance, character; and character, hope.

11 *strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, *for all patience and longsuffering *with joy;

Be Patient and Persevering

7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

11 Indeed *we count them blessed who *endure. You have heard of *the perseverance of Job and seen *the end intendedby the Lord—that *the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

The Enduring Word

22 Since you *have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere *love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 *having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, *through the word of God which lives and abides forever, 24 because

*"All flesh is as grass,

And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.

The grass withers,

And its flower falls away,

25 *But the word of the Lord endures forever."

*Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.

9 *The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but *is longsuffering toward us, *not willing that any should perish but *that all should come to repentance.

The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins

1 "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet *the bridegroom.2 *Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish.3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, *they all slumbered and slept.

6 "And at midnight *a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’7 Then all those virgins arose and *trimmed their lamps.8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and *the door was shut.

11 "Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, *‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, *I do not know you.’

13 *"Watch therefore, for you *know neither the day nor the hourin which the Son of Man is coming.
