11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, *examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved,* a worker *who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

15 and how *from childhood you have been acquainted with *the sacred writings, *which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 *All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that *the man of God* may be complete, *equipped *for every good work.

13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.

39 *You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and *it is they that bear witness about me,

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but *you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

all the rules* of your mouth.

14 In the way of your testimonies I *delight

as much as in all *riches.

15 I will *meditate on your precepts

and fix my eyes on your *ways.

16 I will *delight in your statutes;

I will not forget your word.

7 I will praise you with an upright heart,

when I learn *your righteous rules.*

9 For on the first day of the first month he began to go up from Babylonia, and on the first day of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, *for the good hand of his God was on him. 10 For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it *and to *teach his statutes and rules in Israel.

5 You *shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And *these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 *You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 *You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 *You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

18 "And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, *he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, *approved by* the Levitical priests. 19 And *it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, *that he may learn to fear the Lord his God by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them, 20 that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he *may not turn aside from the commandment, either to the right hand or to the left, *so that he may continue long in his kingdom, he and his children, in Israel.

The Beginning of Knowledge

1 *The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:

2 To know wisdom and instruction,

to understand words of insight,

3 to receive instruction in wise dealing,

in *righteousness, justice, and equity;

4 to give prudence to *the simple,

knowledge and *discretion to the youth—

5 Let the wise hear and *increase in learning,

and the one who understands obtain guidance,

6 to understand a proverb and a saying,

*the words of the wise and their *riddles.

Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

1 *My son, do not forget my teaching,

*but let your heart keep my commandments,

2 for *length of days and years of life

and *peace they will add to you.

13 *Keep hold of instruction; do not let go;

guard her, for she is your *life.

23 For the commandment is *a lamp and the teaching a light,

and the *reproofs of discipline are the way of life,

6 My people are destroyed *for lack of knowledge;

*because you have rejected knowledge,

I reject you *from being a priest to me.

And since you have forgotten the law of your God,

*I also will forget your children.

20 *To the teaching and to the testimony! If they will not speak according to this word, it is because they have no *dawn.

24 Jesus said to them, "Is this not the reason you are wrong, because *you know neither the Scriptures nor *the power of God?

4 For *whatever was written in former days was written for our *instruction, that through endurance and through *the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

17 You therefore, beloved, *knowing this beforehand, *take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But *grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. *To him be the glory both now and to the day of *eternity. Amen.

10 Concerning this salvation, *the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, 11 inquiring *what person or time**the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating *when he predicted *the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories.
