For the love of money is a root of all kindsof evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.

You Cannot Serve God and Riches

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

Contentamento

Tende cuidado e guardai-vos de toda espécie de ganância. A vida de um homem não consiste na abundância dos bens que possui.

And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses."

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Do not overwork to be rich;

Because of your own understanding, cease!

Wealth gainedby dishonesty will be diminished,

But he who gathers by labor will increase.

Riqueza ilusória

As riquezas são passageiras. Quem ama o dinheiro nunca terá o suficiente. O contentamento com o que se tem é verdadeira riqueza.

He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver;

Nor he who loves abundance, with increase.

This also is vanity.

As he came from his mother’s womb, naked shall he return,

To go as he came;

And he shall take nothing from his labor

Which he may carry away in his hand.

He covets greedily all day long,

But the righteous gives and does not spare.

For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing.

Incline my heart to Your testimonies,

And not to covetousness.
