Ídolos
A Bíblia condena a idolatria com veemência. Um ídolo é qualquer coisa que ocupa o lugar de Deus no coração. Os cristãos são chamados a guardar-se dos ídolos e servir ao Deus vivo.
Guardai-vos dos ídolos
Filhinhos, guardai-vos dos ídolos. A cobiça é idolatria. Tudo que ocupa o trono de Deus no coração é um ídolo.
21 Dear children! Guard yourselves from idols.
5 Make dead, therefore, your members that are on the earthas regardeth fornication, impurity, passion, base coveting, and greed, the which, is idolatry,
10 For, a root of all the vices, is the love of money, which, some, being eager for, have been seduced from the faith, and have pierced, themselves, about with many pangs.
23 Ye shall not make beside me,neither gods of silver, nor gods of gold, shall ye make to yourselves.
4 Yet, I, Yahweh, have been thy God from the land of Egypt,and, god beside me, shalt thou not acknowledge, for, saviour, is there none besides me.
O único Deus verdadeiro
O Senhor é Deus nos céus e na terra — não há outro. Escolham hoje a quem servir, mas eu e a minha casa serviremos ao Senhor.
39 So then thou must consider to-day, and bring it back to thy heart, that, Yahweh, he is God in the heavens above and upon the earth beneath,there is none other.
4 After Yahweh your God, shall ye walk And him, shall ye revere,And his commandments, shall ye observe. And unto his voice, shall ye hearken, And him, shall ye serve And unto him, shall ye cleave.
15 But, if it be, a vexation, in your eyes, to serve Yahweh, choose ye for yourselves, to-day, whom ye will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served, that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye are dwelling,but, I and my house, will serve Yahweh.
9 Or know ye not that, wrong-doers, shall not inherit, Gods kingdom? Be not deceiving yourselves:neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor sodomites,10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionersshall inherit, Gods kingdom.
Vencer a idolatria
Não tenhas comunhão com as obras das trevas. Revesti-vos da armadura de Deus para resistir às ciladas do diabo.
11 And be not joining in fellowship in the unfruitful works of darkness, but, rather, be even administering reproof;12 For, of the secret things which are brought to pass by them, it is, shameful, even to speak!
11 Put on the complete armour of God, with a view to your having power to stand against the strategies of the adversary;
15 I request not, that thou wouldst take them out of the world, but that thou wouldst keep them out of the evil:
17 No instrument formed against thee, shall prosper, And every tongue that riseth against thee in judgment, shalt thou prove to be lawless,This is the inheritance of the servants of Yahweh. And, their righteousness, is from me, Declareth Yahweh.
21 Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
14 Depart from wickedness and do good, Aim at well-being, and pursue it.
