O que é a lei de Deus e qual é o seu propósito
A lei na Bíblia é a revelação da vontade e do caráter de Deus, dada para orientar o relacionamento humano com o Criador e com o próximo. Seu papel não é salvar por esforço próprio, mas expor o pecado e apontar a necessidade da redenção em Cristo.
O apóstolo Paulo ensina que a lei atua como um padrão que torna o ser humano consciente de suas falhas. Em vez de anular a responsabilidade moral, a graça capacita o crente a viver os princípios justos da lei guiado pelo Espírito.
For no one is made right before God by doing what the law requires. The law only helps us recognize what sin really is.(Romans 3:20)
So then, should we sin because we’re not under law, but under grace? Of course not!(Romans 6:15)
Some say, "I’m free to do anything"—but not everything is appropriate! "I’m free to do anything"—but not everything is constructive!(1 Corinthians 10:23)
For the whole law is summed up in this one command, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."(Galatians 5:14)
But the Spirit produces fruit such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trust, gentleness, self-control—and there’s no law against these kinds of things!(Galatians 5:22,23)
Carry each other’s burdens, for in this way you fulfill the law of Christ.(Galatians 6:2)
O cumprimento da lei no amor
Jesus resumiu as exigências morais da Escritura em dois mandamentos fundamentais: amar a Deus sobre todas as coisas e amar o próximo como a si mesmo. O amor cumpre a lei porque quem age com misericórdia e justiça não comete dano contra ninguém.
The second is ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There’s no more important commandment than these."(Mark 12:31)
This is my command: love one another as I have loved you.(John 15:12)
Treat others the way you want them to treat you. This sums up the law and the prophets.(Matthew 7:12)
Don’t owe anybody anything, except love for one another—for those who love their neighbor have kept the law.(Romans 13:8)
This is the command he gave to us: those who love God love their brothers and sisters too.(1 John 4:21)
Dear friends, if we’re reassured we’re not in the wrong, we can have confidence before God. We’ll receive from him whatever we ask him for, because we follow his commands and do what pleases him.(1 John 3:21,22)
A instrução de Deus no Antigo Testamento
No hebraico bíblico, a palavra comumente traduzida por lei (Torah) significa instrução, ensino ou direção. Para o povo de Israel, os mandamentos não eram vistos apenas como restrições jurídicas, mas como um caminho de sabedoria, preservação da vida e aliança com o Senhor.
The commands I’m giving you today must stay in your minds. You are to explain them carefully to your children and talk about them when you’re at home and when you’re traveling, when you lie down and when you get up.(Deuteronomy 6:6,7)
People of Israel, what does the Lord your God want from you? He wants you to respect the Lord your God by following all his ways. He wants you to love him. Keep on reminding the people about the law. Meditate on it day and night, so you can be sure to do what it requires. Then you will be successful and prosper in what you do.(Joshua 1:8)
But make sure you keep the commandments and the law as Moses instructed you. Love the Lord your God, follow all his ways, keep his commandments, stay close to him, and serve him with your whole being."(Joshua 22:5)

A exigência de justiça e integridade
A obediência aos mandamentos não se resume a práticas formais. Os profetas bíblicos advertiram que qualquer observância religiosa desprovida de integridade moral, socorro ao vulnerável e prática da justiça é rejeitada por Deus.
The Lord has told you what is good, and what the Lord asks from you: to do what is right, to love kindness, and to walk in humility with your God.(Micah 6:8)
Rather let justice flow like a river, and doing right like an ever-flowing stream.(Amos 5:24)
Don’t join together with people who don’t believe—for what connection does goodness have with wickedness? What do light and darkness have in common?(2 Corinthians 6:14)
Fathers, don’t make your children mad, but look after them by disciplining them and instructing them about God.(Ephesians 6:4)
