Materialismo

26 Why, what benefit will it be to a man if he gains the whole world but forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give to buy back his life?

36 Why, what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?

9 But people who are determined to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many unwise and pernicious ways which sink mankind in destruction and ruin.

7 for we brought nothing into the world, nor can we carry anything out of it;8 and if we have food and clothing, with these we will be satisfied.

7 for we brought nothing into the world, nor can we carry anything out of it;8 and if we have food and clothing, with these we will be satisfied.

Tesouros no céu

Ajuntai tesouros no céu, onde traça e ferrugem não consomem. O bom nome vale mais que muitas riquezas, e a sabedoria supera o ouro.

19 »Do not lay up stores of wealth for yourselves on earth, where the moth and wear-and-tear destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.«20 But amass wealth for yourselves in Heaven, where neither the moth nor wear-and-tear destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

21 For where your wealth is, there also will your heart be.

21 »If you desire to be perfect,« replied Jesus, »go and sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have wealth in Heaven; and come, follow me.«

Contentamento e generosidade

Grande ganho é a piedade com contentamento. A cobiça é idolatria, mas a generosidade traz alegria e bênção.

6 And godliness is gain, when associated with contentment;

17 Impress on those who are rich in the present age that they must not be haughty nor set their hopes on riches –that unstable foundation– but on God who provides us richly with all things for our enjoyment.

5 Your lives should be untainted by love for money. Be content with what you have; for God Himself has said, »I will never, never let go your hand: I will never never forsake you.«

5 Therefore put to death your earthward inclinations–fornication, impurity, sensual passion, unholy desire, and all greed, for that is a form of idolatry.

15 And to the people He said, »Take care, be on your guard against all covetousness, for no one's life consists in the superabundance of his possessions.«

O invisível acima do visível

As coisas que se veem são temporais; as que não se veem são eternas. Devemos fixar os olhos no que é permanente e verdadeiro.

18 while we look not at things seen, but things unseen; for things seen are temporary, but things unseen are eternal.

9 and I would have the women dress becomingly, with modesty and self-control, not with plaited hair or gold or pearls or costly clothes,10 but –as befits women making a claim to godliness– with the ornament of good works.

32 Among all those who had embraced the faith there was but one heart and soul, so that none of them claimed any of his possessions as his own, but everything they had was common property;
