A relação entre pais e filhos é uma das mais preciosas na Bíblia. Deus estabeleceu a família como escola de fé, amor e formação de caráter.
Honrar pai e mãe
Honrar os pais é o primeiro mandamento com promessa. Os filhos são chamados a obedecer, respeitar e cuidar de seus pais.
1 The children! obey your parents in the Lord, for this is righteous;2 honour your father and mother,3 which is the first command with a promise, 'That it may be well with you, and you may live a long time upon the land.'
20 the children! obey the parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord;
4 and if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to their own house to show piety, and to give back a recompense to the parents, for this is right and acceptable before God.
Instruir os filhos
Os pais devem instruir os filhos no caminho certo. A educação começa cedo, com disciplina amorosa e ensino constante da Palavra.
4 And the fathers! provoke not your children, but nourish them in the instruction and admonition gentle correction, counsel of the Lord.
21 the fathers! vex not your children, lest they be discouraged.
7 if chastening you endure, as to sons God bears Himself to you, for who is a son whom a father does not chasten?
Filhos como bênção
Os filhos são herança do Senhor. A coroa dos velhos são os filhos dos filhos, e a glória dos filhos são seus pais.
11 'And of which of you -- the father -- if the son shall ask a loaf, a stone will he present to him? and if a fish, will he instead of a fish, a serpent present to him?12 and if he may ask an egg, will he present to him a scorpion?13 If, then, you, being evil, have known good gifts to be giving to your children, how much more shall the Father who is from heaven give the Holy Spirit to those asking Him!'
8 and if any one for his own -- and especially for those of the household -- does not provide, the faith he has denied, and than an unbeliever he is worse.
