A relação entre pais e filhos é uma das mais preciosas na Bíblia. Deus estabeleceu a família como escola de fé, amor e formação de caráter.
Honrar pai e mãe
Honrar os pais é o primeiro mandamento com promessa. Os filhos são chamados a obedecer, respeitar e cuidar de seus pais.
1 Children, be obedient to your parents as a Christian duty, for it is a duty.2 »Honour your father and your mother« –this is the first Commandment which has a promise added to it–3 »so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.«
20 Children be obedient to your parents in everything; for that is right for Christians.
4 But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let these learn first to show piety towards their own homes and to prove their gratitude to their parents; for this is well pleasing in the sight of God.
Instruir os filhos
Os pais devem instruir os filhos no caminho certo. A educação começa cedo, com disciplina amorosa e ensino constante da Palavra.
4 And you, fathers, do not irritate your children, but bring them up tenderly with true Christian training and advice.
21 Fathers, do not fret and harass your children, or you may make them sullen and morose.
7 The sufferings that you are enduring are for your discipline. God is dealing with you as sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
Filhos como bênção
Os filhos são herança do Senhor. A coroa dos velhos são os filhos dos filhos, e a glória dos filhos são seus pais.
11 And what father is there among you, who, if his son asks for a slice of bread, will offer him a stone? or if he asks for a fish, will instead of a fish offer him a snake?12 or if he asks for an egg, will offer him a scorpion?13 If you then, with all your human frailty, know how to give your children gifts that are good for them, how much more certainly will your Father who is in Heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!«
8 But if a man makes no provision for those dependent on him, and especially for his own family, he has disowned the faith and is behaving worse than an unbeliever.
