Na Bíblia, a palavra traduzida como "próximo" significa literalmente aquele que está perto — o vizinho de porta, de terra ou de caminho. O mandamento bíblico não trata o amor ao próximo como um sentimento abstrato, mas como a recusa ativa de prejudicar quem vive ao lado e a disposição de buscar o seu bem prático.
And the second [is] like, [namely] this, youi shall love youri neighbour as yourself. There is none other commandment greater than these.(Mark 12:31)
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; youi shall love youri neighbour as yourself.(Galatians 5:14)

Let every one of us please [his] neighbour for [his] good to edification.(Romans 15:2)

Paciência, tolerância e resolução de conflitos
O atrito é inevitável quando pessoas dividem o mesmo espaço. O texto bíblico instrui a evitar o julgamento precipitado sobre decisões alheias, renunciar à arrogância e praticar o perdão antes que a discórdia se aprofunde.
[Let] nothing [be done] through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.(Philippians 2:3)
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Moshiach [Messiah] forgave you, so also [do] you2f.(Colossians 3:13)
