1 Eis que eu envio o meu mensageiro, que preparará o caminho diante de mim; e de repente virá ao seu templo o Senhor, a quem vós buscais; e o mensageiro da aliança, a quem vós desejais, eis que ele vem, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos.2 Mas quem suportará o dia da sua vinda? E quem subsistirá, quando ele aparecer? Porque ele será como o fogo do ourives e como o sabão dos lavandeiros.3 E assentar-se-á como fundidor e purificador de prata; e purificará os filhos de Levi, e os refinará como ouro e como prata; então ao Senhor trarão oferta em justiça.4 E a oferta de Judá e de Jerusalém será agradável ao Senhor, como nos dias antigos, e como nos primeiros anos.5 E chegar-me-ei a vós para juízo; e serei uma testemunha veloz contra os feiticeiros, contra os adúlteros, contra os que juram falsamente, contra os que defraudam o diarista em seu salário, e a viúva, e o órfão, e que pervertem o direito do estrangeiro, e não me temem, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos.6 Porque eu, o Senhor, não mudo; por isso vós, ó filhos de Jacó, não sois consumidos.7 Desde os dias de vossos pais vos desviastes dos meus estatutos, e não os guardastes; tornai-vos para mim, e eu me tornarei para vós, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos; mas vós dizeis: Em que havemos de tornar?8 Roubará o homem a Deus? Todavia vós me roubais, e dizeis: Em que te roubamos? Nos dízimos e nas ofertas.9 Com maldição sois amaldiçoados, porque a mim me roubais, sim, toda esta nação.10 Trazei todos os dízimos à casa do tesouro, para que haja mantimento na minha casa, e depois fazei prova de mim nisto, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, se eu não vos abrir as janelas do céu, e não derramar sobre vós uma bênção tal até que não haja lugar suficiente para a recolherdes.11 E por causa de vós repreenderei o devorador, e ele não destruirá os frutos da vossa terra; e a vossa vide no campo não será estéril, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos.12 E todas as nações vos chamarão bem-aventurados; porque vós sereis uma terra deleitosa, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos.13 As vossas palavras foram agressivas para mim, diz o Senhor; mas vós dizeis: Que temos falado contra ti?14 Vós tendes dito: Inútil é servir a Deus; que nos aproveita termos cuidado em guardar os seus preceitos, e em andar de luto diante do Senhor dos Exércitos?15 Ora, pois, nós reputamos por bem-aventurados os soberbos; também os que cometem impiedade são edificados; sim, eles tentam a Deus, e escapam.16 Então aqueles que temeram ao Senhor falaram frequentemente um ao outro; e o Senhor atentou e ouviu; e um memorial foi escrito diante dele, para os que temeram o Senhor, e para os que se lembraram do seu nome.17 E eles serão meus, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos; naquele dia serão para mim joias; poupá-los-ei, como um homem poupa a seu filho, que o serve.18 Então voltareis e vereis a diferença entre o justo e o ímpio; entre o que serve a Deus, e o que não o serve.

1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall clear out the way before me: and suddenly will come to his temple the Lord, whom ye seek; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye desire for, behold, he is coming, saith the Lord of hosts.2 But who can sustain the day of his coming? and who can stand when he appeareth? for he is like the fire of the melter, and like the lye of the washers:3 And he will sit as a melter and purifier of silver; and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness4 And then shall be pleasant unto the Lord the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem, as in the days of old, and as in former years.5 And I will come near unto you to hold judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against those that swear falsely, and against those that withhold the wages of the hired laborer, oppress the widow, and the fatherless, and that do injustice to the stranger, and fear me not, saith the Lord of hosts.6 For I the Lord,––I have not changed: and ye sons of Jacob––ye have not ceased to be.7 From the days of your fathers did ye depart from my statutes, and did not keep them; return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts; but ye say, Wherein shall we return?8 Can a man rob God, that ye will rob me? But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and in heave–offerings.9 With the curse are ye cursed, and yet me do ye rob, O ye entire nation!10 Bring ye all the tithes into the store–house, that there may be provision in my house, and prove me but herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out for you a blessing, until it be more than enough.11 And I will rebuke for you the devourer, and he shall not destroy for you the fruit of the ground: and the vine shall not cast its fruit for you before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.12 And all the nations shall call you blessed; for ye shall be a land of delight, saith the Lord of hosts.13 Your words have been strong against me, saith the Lord; but ye say, What have we spoken among us against thee?14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his charge, and that we have walked contritely before the Lord of hosts?15 And now we call the presumptuous happy: yea, built up are those that practise wickedness; yea, they have even tempted God and are yet suffered to escape.16 Then conversed they that fear the Lord one with the other: and the Lord listened and heard it, and there was written a book of remembrance before him for those who fear the Lord, and for those who respect his name.17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, on that day which I create as a special treasure: and I will spare them, as a man spareth his son that serveth him.18 And ye shall return, and see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that hath not served him.
