1 Três anos se passaram sem haver guerra entre a Síria e Israel. 2 Porém, no terceiro ano, desceu Josafá, rei de Judá, para avistar-se com o rei de Israel. 3 Disse o rei de Israel aos seus servos: Não sabeis vós que Ramote-Gileade é nossa, e nós hesitamos em tomá-la das mãos do rei da Síria? 4 Então, perguntou a Josafá: Irás tu comigo à peleja, a Ramote-Gileade? Respondeu Josafá ao rei de Israel: Serei como tu és, o meu povo, como o teu povo, os meus cavalos, como os teus cavalos.
5 Disse mais Josafá ao rei de Israel: Consulta primeiro a palavra do Senhor. 6 Então, o rei de Israel ajuntou os profetas, cerca de quatrocentos homens, e lhes disse: Irei à peleja contra Ramote-Gileade ou deixarei de ir? Eles disseram: Sobe, porque o Senhor a entregará nas mãos do rei. 7 Disse, porém, Josafá: Não há aqui ainda algum profeta do Senhor para o consultarmos? 8 Respondeu o rei de Israel a Josafá: Há um ainda, pelo qual se pode consultar o Senhor, porém eu o aborreço, porque nunca profetiza de mim o que é bom, mas somente o que é mau. Este é Micaías, filho de Inlá. Disse Josafá: Não fale o rei assim. 9 Então, o rei de Israel chamou um oficial e disse: Traze-me depressa Micaías, filho de Inlá. 10 O rei de Israel e Josafá, rei de Judá, estavam assentados, cada um no seu trono, vestidos de trajes reais, numa eira à entrada da porta de Samaria; e todos os profetas profetizavam diante deles. 11 Zedequias, filho de Quenaana, fez para si uns chifres de ferro e disse: Assim diz o Senhor: Com este escornearás os siros até de todo os consumir. 12 Todos os profetas profetizaram assim, dizendo: Sobe a Ramote-Gileade e triunfarás, porque o Senhor a entregará nas mãos do rei.
13 O mensageiro que fora chamar a Micaías falou-lhe, dizendo: Eis que as palavras dos profetas a uma voz predizem coisas boas para o rei; seja, pois, a tua palavra como a palavra de um deles e fala o que é bom. 14 Respondeu Micaías: Tão certo como vive o Senhor, o que o Senhor me disser, isso falarei. 15 E, vindo ele ao rei, este lhe perguntou: Micaías, iremos a Ramote-Gileade à peleja ou deixaremos de ir? Ele lhe respondeu: Sobe e triunfarás, porque o Senhor a entregará nas mãos do rei. 16 O rei lhe disse: Quantas vezes te conjurarei, que não me fales senão a verdade em nome do Senhor? 17 Então, disse ele: Vi todo o Israel disperso pelos montes, como ovelhas que não têm pastor; e disse o Senhor: Estes não têm dono; torne cada um em paz para a sua casa. 18 Então, o rei de Israel disse a Josafá: Não te disse eu que ele não profetiza a meu respeito o que é bom, mas somente o que é mau? 19 Micaías prosseguiu: Ouve, pois, a palavra do Senhor: Vi o Senhor assentado no seu trono, e todo o exército do céu estava junto a ele, à sua direita e à sua esquerda. 20 Perguntou o Senhor: Quem enganará a Acabe, para que suba e caia em Ramote-Gileade? Um dizia desta maneira, e outro, de outra. 21 Então, saiu um espírito, e se apresentou diante do Senhor, e disse: Eu o enganarei. Perguntou-lhe o Senhor: Com quê? 22 Respondeu ele: Sairei e serei espírito mentiroso na boca de todos os seus profetas. Disse o Senhor: Tu o enganarás e ainda prevalecerás; sai e faze-o assim. 23 Eis que o Senhor pôs o espírito mentiroso na boca de todos estes teus profetas e o Senhor falou o que é mau contra ti.
24 Então, Zedequias, filho de Quenaana, chegou, deu uma bofetada em Micaías e disse: Por onde saiu de mim o Espírito do Senhor para falar a ti? 25 Disse Micaías: Eis que o verás naquele mesmo dia, quando entrares de câmara em câmara, para te esconderes. 26 Então, disse o rei de Israel: Tomai Micaías e devolvei-o a Amom, governador da cidade, e a Joás, filho do rei; 27 e direis: Assim diz o rei: Metei este homem na casa do cárcere e angustiai-o, com escassez de pão e de água, até que eu volte em paz. 28 Disse Micaías: Se voltares em paz, não falou o Senhor, na verdade, por mim. Disse mais: Ouvi isto, vós, todos os povos!
29 Subiram o rei de Israel e Josafá, rei de Judá, a Ramote-Gileade. 30 Disse o rei de Israel a Josafá: Eu me disfarçarei e entrarei na peleja; tu, porém, traja as tuas vestes. Disfarçou-se, pois, o rei de Israel e entrou na peleja. 31 Ora, o rei da Síria dera ordem aos trinta e dois capitães dos seus carros, dizendo: Não pelejareis nem contra pequeno nem contra grande, mas somente contra o rei de Israel. 32 Vendo os capitães dos carros Josafá, disseram: Certamente, este é o rei de Israel. E a ele se dirigiram para o atacar. Porém Josafá gritou. 33 Vendo os capitães dos carros que não era o rei de Israel, deixaram de o perseguir. 34 Então, um homem entesou o arco e, atirando ao acaso, feriu o rei de Israel por entre as juntas da sua armadura; então, disse este ao seu cocheiro: Vira e leva-me para fora do combate, porque estou gravemente ferido. 35 A peleja tornou-se renhida naquele dia; quanto ao rei, seguraram-no de pé no carro defronte dos siros, mas à tarde morreu. O sangue corria da ferida para o fundo do carro. 36 Ao pôr do sol, fez-se ouvir um pregão pelo exército, que dizia: Cada um para a sua cidade, e cada um para a sua terra!
37 Morto o rei, levaram-no a Samaria, onde o sepultaram. 38 Quando lavaram o carro junto ao açude de Samaria, os cães lamberam o sangue do rei, segundo a palavra que o Senhor tinha dito; as prostitutas banharam-se nestas águas. 39 Quanto aos mais atos de Acabe, e a tudo quanto fez, e à casa de marfim que construiu, e a todas as cidades que edificou, porventura, não estão escritos no Livro da História dos Reis de Israel? 40 Assim, descansou Acabe com seus pais; e Acazias, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.
41 E Josafá, filho de Asa, começou a reinar sobre Judá no quarto ano de Acabe, rei de Israel. 42 Era Josafá da idade de trinta e cinco anos quando começou a reinar; e vinte e cinco anos reinou em Jerusalém. Sua mãe se chamava Azuba, filha de Sili. 43 Ele andou em todos os caminhos de Asa, seu pai; não se desviou deles e fez o que era reto perante o Senhor. 44 Todavia, os altos não se tiraram; neles, o povo ainda sacrificava e queimava incenso. 45 Josafá viveu em paz com o rei de Israel. 46 Quanto aos mais atos de Josafá, e ao poder que mostrou, e como guerreou, porventura, não estão escritos no Livro da História dos Reis de Judá?
47 Também exterminou da terra os restantes dos prostitutos cultuais que ficaram nos dias de Asa, seu pai. 48 Então, não havia rei em Edom, porém reinava um governador. 49 Fez Josafá navios de Társis, para irem a Ofir em busca de ouro; porém não foram, porque os navios se quebraram em Eziom-Geber. 50 Então, Acazias, filho de Acabe, disse a Josafá: Vão os meus servos embarcados com os teus. Porém Josafá não quis.
51 Josafá descansou com seus pais e foi sepultado na Cidade de Davi, seu pai; e Jeorão, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.
52 Acazias, filho de Acabe, começou a reinar sobre Israel em Samaria, no décimo sétimo ano de Josafá, rei de Judá; e reinou dois anos sobre Israel. 53 Fez o que era mau perante o Senhor; porque andou nos caminhos de seu pai, como também nos caminhos de sua mãe e nos caminhos de Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, que fez pecar a Israel. 54 Ele serviu a Baal, e o adorou, e provocou à ira ao Senhor, Deus de Israel, segundo tudo quanto fizera seu pai.
1 And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.
2 And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.
3 And the king of Israel said to his servants, Know you that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?
4 And he said to Jehoshaphat, Will you go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.
5 And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, Inquire, I pray you, at the word of the LORD to day.
6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
7 And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might inquire of him?
8 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
9 Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Hasten here Micaiah the son of Imlah.
10 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.
11 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus said the LORD, With these shall you push the Syrians, until you have consumed them.
12 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the king' hand.
13 And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth: let your word, I pray you, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good.
14 And Micaiah said, As the LORD lives, what the LORD said to me, that will I speak.
15 So he came to the king. And the king said to him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
16 And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure you that you tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD?
17 And he said, I saw all Israel scattered on the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.
18 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell you that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?
19 And he said, Hear you therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
20 And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.
21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.
22 And the LORD said to him, With which? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You shall persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
23 Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.
24 But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak to you?
25 And Micaiah said, Behold, you shall see in that day, when you shall go into an inner chamber to hide yourself.
26 And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king' son;
27 And say, Thus said the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.
28 And Micaiah said, If you return at all in peace, the LORD has not spoken by me. And he said, Listen, O people, every one of you.
29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.
30 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put you on your robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.
31 But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.
32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.
33 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.
34 And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: why he said to the driver of his chariot, Turn your hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
35 And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the middle of the chariot.
36 And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.
37 So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
38 And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armor; according to the word of the LORD which he spoke.
39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
40 So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
41 And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother' name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
43 And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.
44 And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
45 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
46 And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.
47 There was then no king in Edom: a deputy was king.
48 Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.
49 Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab to Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with your servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not.
50 And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.
51 Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel.
52 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:
53 For he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger the LORD God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.
