1 Ai da terra onde há o roçar de muitas asas de insetos, que está além dos rios da Etiópia; 2 que envia embaixadores por mar em navios de papiro sobre as águas, dizendo: Ide, mensageiros velozes, a uma nação de homens altos e de pele brunida, a um povo terrível, de perto e de longe; a uma nação poderosa e esmagadora, cuja terra os rios dividem. 3 Vós, todos os habitantes do mundo, e vós, os moradores da terra, quando se arvorar a bandeira nos montes, olhai; e, quando se tocar a trombeta, escutai. 4 Porque assim me disse o Senhor: Olhando da minha morada, estarei calmo como o ardor quieto do sol resplandecente, como a nuvem do orvalho no calor da sega. 5 Porque antes da vindima, caída já a flor, e quando as uvas amadurecem, então, podará os sarmentos com a foice e cortará os ramos que se estendem. 6 Serão deixados juntos às aves dos montes e aos animais da terra; sobre eles veranearão as aves de rapina, e todos os animais da terra passarão o inverno sobre eles.

7 Naquele tempo, será levado um presente ao Senhor dos Exércitos por um povo de homens altos e de pele brunida, povo terrível, de perto e de longe; por uma nação poderosa e esmagadora, cuja terra os rios dividem, ao lugar do nome do Senhor dos Exércitos, ao monte Sião.

1 Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:

2 That sends ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes on the waters, saying, Go, you swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning till now; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!

3 All you inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see you, when he lifts up an ensign on the mountains; and when he blows a trumpet, hear you.

4 For so the LORD said to me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat on herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.

5 For before the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.

6 They shall be left together to the fowls of the mountains, and to the beasts of the earth: and the fowls shall summer on them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter on them.

7 In that time shall the present be brought to the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning till now; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the mount Zion.
