1 Então, disse Salomão: O Senhor declarou que habitaria em nuvem espessa! 2 Edifiquei uma casa para tua morada, lugar para a tua eterna habitação. 3 Voltou, então, o rei o rosto, e abençoou a toda a congregação de Israel, enquanto ela se mantinha em pé, 4 e disse: Bendito seja o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, que falou pessoalmente a Davi, meu pai, e pelo seu poder o cumpriu, dizendo: 5 Desde o dia em que eu tirei o meu povo da terra do Egito, não escolhi cidade alguma de todas as tribos de Israel, para edificar uma casa a fim de ali estabelecer o meu nome; nem escolhi homem algum para chefe do meu povo de Israel. 6 Mas escolhi Jerusalém para que ali seja estabelecido o meu nome e escolhi a Davi para chefe do meu povo de Israel. 7 Também Davi, meu pai, propusera em seu coração o edificar uma casa ao nome do Senhor, o Deus de Israel. 8 Porém o Senhor disse a Davi, meu pai: Já que desejaste edificar uma casa ao meu nome, bem fizeste em o resolver em teu coração. 9 Todavia, tu não edificarás a casa; porém teu filho, que descenderá de ti, ele a edificará ao meu nome. 10 Assim, cumpriu o Senhor a sua palavra que tinha dito, pois me levantei em lugar de Davi, meu pai, e me assentei no trono de Israel, como prometera o Senhor; e edifiquei a casa ao nome do Senhor, o Deus de Israel. 11 Nela pus a arca em que estão as tábuas da aliança que o Senhor fez com os filhos de Israel.
12 Pôs-se Salomão diante do altar do Senhor, na presença de toda a congregação de Israel, e estendeu as mãos. 13 Porque Salomão tinha feito uma tribuna de bronze, de cinco côvados de comprimento, cinco de largura e três de altura, e a pusera no meio do pátio; pôs-se em pé sobre ela, ajoelhou-se em presença de toda a congregação de Israel, estendeu as mãos para o céu 14 e disse: Ó Senhor, Deus de Israel, não há Deus como tu, nos céus e na terra, como tu que guardas a aliança e a misericórdia a teus servos que de todo o coração andam diante de ti; 15 que cumpriste para com teu servo Davi, meu pai, o que lhe prometeste; pessoalmente, o disseste e, pelo teu poder, o cumpriste, como hoje se vê. 16 Agora, pois, ó Senhor, Deus de Israel, faze a teu servo Davi, meu pai, o que lhe declaraste, dizendo: Não te faltará sucessor diante de mim, que se assente no trono de Israel, contanto que teus filhos guardem o seu caminho, para andarem na lei diante de mim, como tu andaste. 17 Agora, também, ó Senhor, Deus de Israel, cumpra-se a tua palavra que disseste a teu servo Davi.
18 Mas, de fato, habitaria Deus com os homens na terra? Eis que os céus e até o céu dos céus não te podem conter, quanto menos esta casa que eu edifiquei. 19 Atenta, pois, para a oração de teu servo e para a sua súplica, ó Senhor, meu Deus, para ouvires o clamor e a oração que faz o teu servo diante de ti. 20 Para que os teus olhos estejam abertos dia e noite sobre esta casa, sobre este lugar, do qual disseste que o teu nome estaria ali; para ouvires a oração que o teu servo fizer neste lugar. 21 Ouve, pois, a súplica do teu servo e do teu povo de Israel, quando orarem neste lugar; ouve do lugar da tua habitação, dos céus; ouve e perdoa.
22 Quando alguém pecar contra o seu próximo, e lhe for exigido que jure, e ele vier a jurar diante do teu altar nesta casa, 23 ouve tu dos céus, age e julga a teus servos, dando a paga ao perverso, fazendo recair o seu proceder sobre a sua cabeça e justificando ao justo, para lhe retribuíres segundo a sua justiça.
24 Quando o teu povo de Israel, por ter pecado contra ti, for ferido diante do inimigo, e se converter, e confessar o teu nome, e orar, e suplicar diante de ti nesta casa, 25 ouve tu dos céus, e perdoa o pecado do teu povo de Israel, e faze-o voltar à terra que lhe deste e a seus pais.
26 Quando os céus se cerrarem, e não houver chuva, por ter o povo pecado contra ti, e ele orar neste lugar, e confessar o teu nome, e se converter dos seus pecados, havendo-o tu afligido, 27 ouve tu nos céus, perdoa o pecado de teus servos e do teu povo de Israel, ensinando-lhes o bom caminho em que andem, e dá chuva na tua terra que deste em herança ao teu povo.
28 Quando houver fome na terra ou peste, quando houver crestamento ou ferrugem, gafanhotos e larvas, quando o seu inimigo o cercar em qualquer das suas cidades ou houver alguma praga ou doença, 29 toda oração e súplica, que qualquer homem ou todo o teu povo de Israel fizer, conhecendo cada um a sua própria chaga e a sua dor, e estendendo as mãos para o rumo desta casa, 30 ouve tu dos céus, lugar da tua habitação, perdoa e dá a cada um segundo todos os seus caminhos, já que lhe conheces o coração, porque tu, só tu, és conhecedor do coração dos filhos dos homens; 31 para que te temam, para andarem nos teus caminhos, todos os dias que viverem na terra que deste a nossos pais.
32 Também ao estrangeiro que não for do teu povo de Israel, porém vier de terras remotas, por amor do teu grande nome e por causa da tua mão poderosa e do teu braço estendido, e orar, voltado para esta casa, 33 ouve tu dos céus, do lugar da tua habitação, e faze tudo o que o estrangeiro te pedir, a fim de que todos os povos da terra conheçam o teu nome, para te temerem como o teu povo de Israel e para saberem que esta casa, que eu edifiquei, é chamada pelo teu nome.
34 Quando o teu povo sair à guerra contra o seu inimigo, pelo caminho por que os enviares, e orarem a ti, voltados para esta cidade, que tu escolheste, e para a casa que edifiquei ao teu nome, 35 ouve tu dos céus a sua oração e a sua súplica e faze-lhes justiça.
36 Quando pecarem contra ti (pois não há homem que não peque), e tu te indignares contra eles e os entregares às mãos do inimigo, a fim de que os leve cativos a uma terra, longe ou perto esteja; 37 e na terra aonde forem levados caírem em si, e se converterem, e na terra do seu cativeiro te suplicarem, dizendo: Pecamos, e perversamente procedemos, e cometemos iniquidade; e se converterem a ti de todo o seu coração e de toda a sua alma, 38 na terra do seu cativeiro, para onde foram levados cativos, e orarem, voltados para a sua terra que deste a seus pais, para esta cidade que escolheste e para a casa que edifiquei ao teu nome, 39 ouve tu dos céus, do lugar da tua habitação, a sua prece e a sua súplica e faze-lhes justiça; perdoa ao teu povo que houver pecado contra ti.
40 Agora, pois, ó meu Deus, estejam os teus olhos abertos, e os teus ouvidos atentos à oração que se fizer deste lugar. 41 Levanta-te, pois, Senhor Deus, e entra para o teu repouso, tu e a arca do teu poder; os teus sacerdotes, ó Senhor Deus, se revistam de salvação, e os teus santos se alegrem do bem. 42 Ah! Senhor Deus, não repulses o teu ungido; lembra-te das misericórdias que usaste para com Davi, teu servo.
1 Then spake Solomon, Jehovah hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. 2 But I have built thee a house of habitation, and a place for thee to dwell in for ever. 3 And the king turned his face, and blessed all the assembly of Israel: and all the assembly of Israel stood.
4 And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hands fulfilled it, saying, 5 Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be prince over my people Israel: 6 but I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there, and have chosen David to be over my people Israel. 7 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel. 8 But Jehovah said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thy heart to build a house for my name, thou didst well that it was in thy heart: 9 nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name. 10 And Jehovah hath performed his word that he spake; for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah promised, and have built the house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel. 11 And there have I set the ark, wherein is the covenant of Jehovah, which he made with the children of Israel.
12 And he stood before the altar of Jehovah in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands 13 (for Solomon had made a brazen scaffold, five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven); 14 and he said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven, or on earth; who keepest covenant and lovingkindness with thy servants, that walk before thee with all their heart; 15 who hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou didst promise him: yea, thou spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thy hand, as it is this day. 16 Now therefore, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only thy children take heed to their way, to walk in my law as thou hast walked before me. 17 Now therefore, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David.
18 But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have builded! 19 Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee; 20 that thine eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall pray toward this place. 21 And hearken thou to the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: yea, hear thou from thy dwelling-place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest, forgive.
22 If a man sin against his neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and he come and swear before thine altar in this house; 23 then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, requiting the wicked, to bring his way upon his own head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.
24 And if thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house; 25 then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.
26 When the heavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them: 27 then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou teachest them the good way wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.
28 If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting or mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague or whatsoever sickness there be; 29 what prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, who shall know every man his own plague and his own sorrow, and shall spread forth his hands toward this house: 30 then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling-place, and forgive, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou knowest (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of the children of men); 31 that they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
32 Moreover concerning the foreigner, that is not of thy people Israel, when he shall come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thine outstretched arm; when they shall come and pray toward this house: 33 then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling-place, and do according to all that the foreigner calleth to thee for; that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
34 If thy people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatsoever way thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name; 35 then hear thou from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
36 If they sin against thee (for there is no man that sinneth not), and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive unto a land far off or near; 37 yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done perversely, and have dealt wickedly; 38 if they return unto thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captive, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name: 39 then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling-place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee.
40 Now, O my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent, unto the prayer that is made in this place. 41 Now therefore arise, O Jehovah God, into thy resting-place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Jehovah God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness. 42 O Jehovah God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember thy lovingkindnesses to David thy servant.
1 Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud;
2 I have built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever."
3 While the whole assembly of Israel was standing there, the king turned around and blessed them.
4 Then he said: "Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who with his hands has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to my father David. For he said,
5 'Since the day I brought my people out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built so that my Name might be there, nor have I chosen anyone to be ruler over my people Israel.
6 But now I have chosen Jerusalem for my Name to be there, and I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.'
7 "My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
8 But the LORD said to my father David, 'You did well to have it in your heart to build a temple for my Name.
9 Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own flesh and blood —he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.'
10 "The LORD has kept the promise he made. I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the LORD promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
11 There I have placed the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD that he made with the people of Israel."
12 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.
13 Now he had made a bronze platform, five cubits long, five cubits wide and three cubits high, "and had placed it in the center of the outer court. He stood on the platform and then knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven.
14 He said: "LORD, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven or on earth —you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.
15 You have kept your promise to your servant David my father; with your mouth you have promised and with your hand you have fulfilled it —as it is today.
16 "Now, LORD, the God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father the promises you made to him when you said, 'You shall never fail to have a successor to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants are careful in all they do to walk before me according to my law, as you have done.'
17 And now, LORD, the God of Israel, let your word that you promised your servant David come true.
18 "But will God really dwell on earth with humans? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!
19 Yet, LORD my God, give attention to your servant's prayer and his plea for mercy. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence.
20 May your eyes be open toward this temple day and night, this place of which you said you would put your Name there. May you hear the prayer your servant prays toward this place.
21 Hear the supplications of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive.
22 "When anyone wrongs their neighbor and is required to take an oath and they come and swear the oath before your altar in this temple,
23 then hear from heaven and act. Judge between your servants, condemning the guilty and bringing down on their heads what they have done, and vindicating the innocent by treating them in accordance with their innocence.
24 "When your people Israel have been defeated by an enemy because they have sinned against you and when they turn back and give praise to your name, praying and making supplication before you in this temple,
25 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them back to the land you gave to them and their ancestors.
26 "When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because your people have sinned against you, and when they pray toward this place and give praise to your name and turn from their sin because you have afflicted them,
27 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the right way to live, and send rain on the land you gave your people for an inheritance.
28 "When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when enemies besiege them in any of their cities, whatever disaster or disease may come,
29 and when a prayer or plea is made by anyone among your people Israel —being aware of their afflictions and pains, and spreading out their hands toward this temple —
30 then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive, and deal with everyone according to all they do, since you know their hearts (for you alone know the human heart),
31 so that they will fear you and walk in obedience to you all the time they live in the land you gave our ancestors.
32 "As for the foreigner who does not belong to your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm —when they come and pray toward this temple,
33 then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your own people Israel, and may know that this house I have built bears your Name.
34 "When your people go to war against their enemies, wherever you send them, and when they pray to you toward this city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name,
35 then hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause.
36 "When they sin against you —for there is no one who does not sin —and you become angry with them and give them over to the enemy, who takes them captive to a land far away or near;
37 and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captivity and say, 'We have sinned, we have done wrong and acted wickedly';
38 and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul in the land of their captivity where they were taken, and pray toward the land you gave their ancestors, toward the city you have chosen and toward the temple I have built for your Name;
39 then from heaven, your dwelling place, hear their prayer and their pleas, and uphold their cause. And forgive your people, who have sinned against you.
40 "Now, my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.
41 "Now arise, LORD God, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. May your priests, LORD God, be clothed with salvation, may your faithful people rejoice in your goodness.
42 LORD God, do not reject your anointed one. Remember the great love promised to David your servant."
