1 Foi tomada Jerusalém. Era o ano nono de Zedequias, rei de Judá, no mês décimo, quando veio Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e todo o seu exército, contra Jerusalém, e a cercaram; 2 era o undécimo ano de Zedequias, no quarto mês, aos nove do mês, quando se fez uma brecha na cidade. 3 Então, entraram todos os príncipes do rei da Babilônia e se assentaram na Porta do Meio: Nergal-Sarezer, Sangar-Nebo, Sarsequim, Rabe-Saris, Nergal-Sarezer, Rabe-Mague e todos os outros príncipes do rei da Babilônia. 4 Tendo-os visto Zedequias, rei de Judá, e todos os homens de guerra, fugiram e, de noite, saíram da cidade, pelo caminho do jardim do rei, pela porta que está entre os dois muros; Zedequias saiu pelo caminho da campina. 5 Mas o exército dos caldeus os perseguiu e alcançou a Zedequias nas campinas de Jericó; eles o prenderam e o fizeram subir a Ribla, na terra de Hamate, a Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, que lhe pronunciou a sentença. 6 O rei da Babilônia mandou matar, em Ribla, os filhos de Zedequias à vista deste; também matou a todos os príncipes de Judá. 7 Vazou os olhos a Zedequias e o atou com duas cadeias de bronze, para o levar à Babilônia.

8 Os caldeus queimaram a casa do rei e as casas do povo e derribaram os muros de Jerusalém. 9 O mais do povo que havia ficado na cidade, os desertores que se entregaram a ele e o sobrevivente do povo, Nebuzaradã, o chefe da guarda, levou-os cativos para a Babilônia. 10 Porém dos mais pobres da terra, que nada tinham, deixou Nebuzaradã, o chefe da guarda, na terra de Judá; e lhes deu vinhas e campos naquele dia.

11 Mas Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, havia ordenado acerca de Jeremias, a Nebuzaradã, o chefe da guarda, dizendo: 12 Toma-o, cuida dele e não lhe faças nenhum mal; mas faze-lhe como ele te disser. 13 Deste modo, Nebuzaradã, o chefe da guarda, ordenou a Nebusazbã, Rabe-Saris, Nergal-Sarezer, Rabe-Mague, e todos os príncipes do rei da Babilônia 14 mandaram retirar Jeremias do átrio da guarda e o entregaram a Gedalias, filho de Aicão, filho de Safã, para que o levasse para o seu palácio; assim, habitou entre o povo.

15 Ora, tinha vindo a Jeremias a palavra do Senhor, estando ele ainda detido no átrio da guarda, dizendo: 16 Vai e fala a Ebede-Meleque, o etíope, dizendo: Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Eis que eu trarei as minhas palavras sobre esta cidade para mal e não para bem; e se cumprirão diante de ti naquele dia. 17 A ti, porém, eu livrarei naquele dia, diz o Senhor, e não serás entregue nas mãos dos homens a quem temes. 18 Pois certamente te salvarei, e não cairás à espada, porque a tua vida te será como despojo, porquanto confiaste em mim.

1 in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and besieged it;

2 in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city--

3 that all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate, even Nergal-sarezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim Rab-saris, Nergal-sarezer Rab-mag, with all the residue of the princes of the king of Babylon.

4 And it came to pass, that when Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, by the gate betwixt the two walls; and he went out the way of the Arabah.

5 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, and he gave judgment upon him.

6 Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes; also the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Judah.

7 Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes, and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Babylon.

8 And the Chaldeans burned the king's house, and the house of the people, with fire, and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

9 Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Babylon the remnant of the people that remained in the city, the deserters also, that fell away to him, with the rest of the people that remained.

10 But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, that had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields in that day.

11 Now Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying:

12 'Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do unto him even as he shall say unto thee.'

13 So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard sent, and Nebushazban Rab-saris, and Nergal-sarezer Rab-mag, and all the chief officers of the king of Babylon;

14 they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the guard, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home; so he dwelt among the people.

15 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the guard, saying:

16 'Go, and speak to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying: Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring My words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished before thee in that day.

17 But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the LORD; and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid.

18 For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee; because thou hast put thy trust in Me, saith the LORD.'
