1 Woe to them that devise iniquity and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand. 2 And they covet fields, and seize them; and houses, and take them away: and they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage. 3 Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks, neither shall ye walk haughtily; for it is an evil time. 4 In that day shall they take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We are utterly ruined: he changeth the portion of my people: how doth he remove it from me! to the rebellious he divideth our fields. 5 Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast the line by lot in the assembly of Jehovah.

6 Prophesy ye not, thus they prophesy. They shall not prophesy to these: reproaches shall not depart. 7 Shall it be said, O house of Jacob, Is the Spirit of Jehovah straitened? are these his doings? Do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly? 8 But of late my people is risen up as an enemy: ye strip the robe from off the garment from them that pass by securely as men averse from war. 9 The women of my people ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their young children ye take away my glory for ever. 10 Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your resting-place; because of uncleanness that destroyeth, even with a grievous destruction. 11 If a man walking in a spirit of falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.

12 I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as a flock in the midst of their pasture; they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men. 13 The breaker is gone up before them: they have broken forth and passed on to the gate, and are gone out thereat; and their king is passed on before them, and Jehovah at the head of them.

1 Malheur à ceux qui pensent à faire outrage, qui forgent le mal sur leurs lits, et qui l'exécutent dès le point du jour, parce qu'ils ont le pouvoir en main.2 S'ils convoitent des possessions, ils les ont aussitôt ravies, et [s'ils convoitent] des maisons, ils les ont aussitôt prises; ainsi ils oppriment l'homme et sa maison, l'homme, dis-je, et son héritage.3 C'est pourquoi ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Voici, je pense contre cette famille-ci un mal duquel vous ne pourrez point vous mettre à couvert, et vous ne marcherez point à tête levée; car ce temps [est] mauvais.4 En ce temps-là on fera de vous un proverbe lugubre, et l'on gémira d'un gémissement lamentable, en disant : Nous sommes entièrement détruits, il a changé la portion de mon peuple; comment nous l'aurait-il ôtée? partage-t-il nos champs, pour nous les faire rendre ?5 C'est pourquoi il n'y aura personne pour toi qui jette le cordeau pour ton lot dans la congrégation de l'Eternel.6 [On dit] : Ne prophétisez point, ils prophétiseront, [mais] ils ne prophétiseront point pour ceux-ci; l'ignominie ne tournera point en arrière.7 Or toi qui es appelée Maison de Jacob, l'Esprit de l'Eternel est-il amoindri? Sont-ce là ses actes? Mes paroles ne sont-elles pas bonnes pour celui qui marche droitement?8 Mais celui qui était hier mon peuple, s'élève à la manière d'un ennemi, pour rencontrer un manteau; vous dépouillez le vêtement magnifique à ceux qui passent en assurance, étant de retour de la guerre.9 Vous mettez les femmes de mon peuple hors des maisons où elles prenaient plaisir; vous ôtez pour jamais ma gloire de dessus leurs petits enfants.10 Levez-vous, et marchez, car [ce pays] ne [vous est] plus [un lieu de] repos; parce qu'il est souillé, il [vous] détruira, même d'une prompte destruction.11 S'il y a quelque homme qui marche selon le vent, et qui mente faussement, [en disant]; Je te prophétiserai du vin et de la cervoise; ce sera le Prophète de ce peuple.12 [Mais] je t'assemblerai tout entier, ô Jacob! et je ramasserai entièrement le reste d'Israël, et le mettrai tout ensemble comme les brebis de Botsra, comme un troupeau au milieu de son étable; il y aura un grand bruit pour la foule des hommes.13 Le briseur montera devant eux, on brisera, et on passera outre, et eux sortiront par la porte; et leur Roi passera devant eux, et l'Eternel sera à leur tête.
