Colossians 2

1 For I would have you know how greatly I strive for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 2 that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, even Christ, 3 in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden. 4 This I say, that no one may delude you with persuasiveness of speech. 5 For though I am absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

6 As therefore ye received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and builded up in him, and established in your faith, even as ye were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

8 Take heed lest there shall be any one that maketh spoil of you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ: 9 for in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily, 10 and in him ye are made full, who is the head of all principality and power: 11 in whom ye were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ; 12 having been buried with him in baptism, wherein ye were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, you, I say, did he make alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses; 14 having blotted out the bond written in ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us: and he hath taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross; 15 having despoiled the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day or a new moon or a sabbath day: 17 which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s. 18 Let no man rob you of your prize by a voluntary humility and worshipping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he hath seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and bands, increaseth with the increase of God.

20 If ye died with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, do ye subject yourselves to ordinances, 21 Handle not, nor taste, nor touch 22 (all which things are to perish with the using), after the precepts and doctrines of men? 23 Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will-worship, and humility, and severity to the body; but are not of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.

1 Car je veux bien que vous sachiez combien est grand le combat que je soutiens pour vous, et pour ceux qui sont à Laodicée, et pour tous ceux qui ne m’ont jamais vu,

2 Afin que leurs cœurs soient consolés, et qu’étant liés étroitement ensemble par la charité, ils soient enrichis d’une parfaite intelligence, pour connaître le mystère de notre Dieu et Père, et de Jésus-Christ,

3 En qui sont renfermés tous les trésors de la sagesse et de la science.

4 Je vous dis ceci afin que personne ne vous abuse par des discours séduisants.

5 Car bien que je sois absent de corps, je suis pourtant avec vous en esprit, et je me réjouis de voir le bon ordre qu’il y a parmi vous, et la fermeté de votre foi en Jésus-Christ.

6 Comme done vous avez reçu le Seigneur Jésus-Christ, marchez selon lui,

7 Etant enracinés et fondés en lui, et affermis dans la foi, selon qu’elle vous a enseignée, y faisant des progrès avec des actions de grâces.

8 Prenez garde que personne ne vous séduise par la philosophie et par de vaines subtilités, suivant les traditions des hommes, et les éléments du monde, et non pas selon Christ.

9 Car toute la plénitude de la divinité habite corporellement en lui.

10 Et vous avez tout pleinement en lui, qui est le chef de toutes les principautés, et de toutes les puissances.

11 C’est aussi en lui que vous avez été circoncis d’une circoncision faite sans main, et qui consiste dépouiller le corps des péchés de la chair, ce qui est la circoncision de Christ;

12 Ayant été ensevelis avec lui par le baptême dans lequel vous êtes aussi ressuscités avec lui, par la foi que vous avez en la puissance de Dieu, qui l’a ressuscité des morts.

13 Et lorsque vous étiez morts dans vos péchés et incirconcis dans votre chair, il vous a vivifiés avec lui, vous ayant pardonné toutes vos fautes.

14 Il a effacé l’obligation qui était contre nous, laquelle consistait dans les ordonnances, et nous était contraire; et il l’a entièrement annulée en l’attachant à la croix;

15 Ayant dépouillé les principautés et les puissances, qu’il a publiquement exposées en spectacle, triomphant d’elles sur cette croix.

16 Que personne donc ne vous condamne au sujet du manger ou du boire, ou pour la distinction d’un jour de fête, ou de nouvelle lune, ou de sabbat;

17 Car ces choses n’étaient que l’ombre de celles qui devaient venir, mais le corps en est en Christ.

18 Que personne ne vous maîtrise à son plaisir, sous prétexte d’humilité, et par le culte des anges, s’ingérant dans les choses qu’il n’a point vues, étant témérairement enflé de son sens charnel;

19 Et ne demeurant pas attaché au chef, duquel tout le corps, bien joint par la liaison de ses parties, tire ce qui le fait subsister, et reçoit son accroissement selon Dieu.

20 Si donc vous êtes morts avec Christ, par rapport aux éléments du monde, pourquoi vous charge-t-on de ces préceptes, comme si vous viviez encore au monde?

21 En vous disant: Ne mange point de ceci, n’en goûte point, n’y touche pas;

22 Préceptes qui sont tous pernicieux par leurs abus, n’étant fondés que sur des ordonnances et des doctrines humaines,

23 Lesquelles ont, à la vérité, quelque apparence de sagesse dans un culte volontaire, et dans une certaine humilité, en ce qu’elles n’épargnent point le corps, et qu’elles n’ont aucun égard ce qui peut satisfaire la chair.
