Ephesians 3

1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus in behalf of you Gentiles,— 2 if so be that ye have heard of the dispensation of that grace of God which was given me to you-ward; 3 how that by revelation was made known unto me the mystery, as I wrote before in few words, 4 whereby, when ye read, ye can perceive my understanding in the mystery of Christ; 5 which in other generations was not made known unto the sons of men, as it hath now been revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit; 6 to wit, that the Gentiles are fellow-heirs, and fellow-members of the body, and fellow-partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel, 7 whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of that grace of God which was given me according to the working of his power. 8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach unto the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; 9 and to make all men see what is the dispensation of the mystery which for ages hath been hid in God who created all things; 10 to the intent that now unto the principalities and the powers in the heavenly places might be made known through the church the manifold wisdom of God, 11 according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: 12 in whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him. 13 Wherefore I ask that ye may not faint at my tribulations for you, which are your glory.

14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that ye may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man; 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be strong to apprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye may be filled unto all the fulness of God.

20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21 unto him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus unto all generations for ever and ever. Amen.

1 C’est, à cause de cela que moi, Paul, je suis prisonnier de Jésus-Christ pour vous, les Gentils;

2 Car vous avez sans doute appris quelle est la dispensation de la grâce de Dieu, qui m’a été donnée pour vous;

3 Et que c’est par révélation que Dieu m’a fait connaître ce mystère, comme je viens de vous l’écrire en peu de mots.

4 Par où vous pouvez connaître, en le lisant, quelle est l’intelligence que j’ai du mystère de Christ;

5 Mystère qui n’a point été découvert aux enfants des hommes dans les temps passés, comme il a été révélé dans ce temps-ci, par l’Esprit, à ses saints apôtres et aux prophètes;

6 Qui est, que les Gentils sont cohéritiers, qu’ils font un même corps, et qu’ils participent à la promesse que Dieu a faite en Christ par l’Evangile;

7 Duquel j’ai été fait le ministre, par un don de la grâce de Dieu, qui m’a été donnée par l’efficace de sa puissance.

8 Cette grâce, dis-je, m’a été donnée, à moi qui suis le moindre de tous les saints, pour annoncer parmi les Gentils les richesses incompréhensibles de Christ;

9 Et pour mettre en évidence devant tous les hommes, quelle est la dispensation du mystère qui a été caché de tout temps en Dieu, qui a créé toutes choses par Jésus-Christ;

10 Afin que la sagesse de Dieu, qui est infiniment diverse, soit maintenant manifestée par l’Eglise aux principautés et aux puissances dans les lieux célestes,

11 Selon le dessein qu’il avait formé de tout temps, et qu’il a exécuté par Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur,

12 En qui nous avons la liberté de nous approcher de Dieu avec confiance, par la foi que nous avons en lui.

13 C’est pourquoi je vous prie de ne vous point décourager à cause des afflictions que je souffre pour vous; ce qui fait votre gloire.

14 C’est pour ce sujet que je fléchis les genoux devant le Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ,

15 Duquel toute la famille qui est dans les cieux et sur la terre, tire son nom;

16 Afin que, selon les richesses de sa gloire, il vous accorde la grâce d’être puissamment fortifiés par son Esprit dans l’homme intérieur;

17 En sorte que Christ habite dans vos cœurs par la foi;

18 Et qu’étant enracinés et fondés dans la charité, vous puissiez comprendre, avec tous les saints, quelle en est la largeur, la longueur, la profondeur et la hauteur;

19 Et connaître l’amour de Christ, qui surpasse toute connaissance, afin que vous soyez remplis de toute la plénitude des dons de Dieu.

20 Or, à celui qui, par la puissance qui agit en nous, peut faire infiniment plus que tout ce que nous demandons et que nous pensons;

21 A lui soit rendue la gloire dans l’Eglise, par Jésus-Christ, dans tous les âges, aux siècles des siècles. Amen.
