1 In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah. 2 Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of Jehovah and of the king’s house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying, 3 There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me. 4 And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and all the store-cities of Naphtali. 5 And it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, that he left off building Ramah, and let his work cease. 6 Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had builded; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.

7 And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and hast not relied on Jehovah thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand. 8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim a huge host, with chariots and horsemen exceeding many? yet, because thou didst rely on Jehovah, he delivered them into thy hand. 9 For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly; for from henceforth thou shalt have wars. 10 Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in the prison-house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

11 And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 12 And in the thirty and ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet; his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to Jehovah, but to the physicians. 13 And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign. 14 And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had hewn out for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and divers kinds of spices prepared by the perfumers’ art: and they made a very great burning for him.

1 În al treizeci și șaselea an al domniei lui Asa, Baeșa*1 Împ. 15:17., împăratul lui Israel, s-a suit împotriva lui Iuda și a întărit Rama, ca să*Cap. 15:9. nu lase pe ai lui Asa, împăratul lui Iuda, să iasă și să intre. 2 Asa a scos argint și aur din vistieriile Casei Domnului și ale casei împăratului și a trimis soli la Ben-Hadad, împăratul Siriei, care locuia la Damasc. Și a pus să-i spună: 3 „Să fie un legământ între mine și tine, cum a fost unul între tatăl meu și tatăl tău. Iată, îți trimit argint și aur. Du-te și rupe legământul tău cu Baeșa, împăratul lui Israel, ca să se depărteze de la mine." 4 Ben-Hadad a ascultat pe împăratul Asa; a trimis pe căpeteniile oștirii sale împotriva cetăților lui Israel și au bătut Iionul, Dan, Abel-Maim și toate locurile pentru merinde din cetățile lui Neftali. 5 Când a auzit, Baeșa a încetat să mai întărească Rama și a pus capăt lucrărilor sale. 6 Împăratul Asa a pus pe tot Iuda să ridice pietrele și lemnele pe care le întrebuința Baeșa la întărirea Ramei și le-a întrebuințat la întărirea Ghebei și Mițpei.

7 În vremea aceea, Hanani*1 Împ. 16:1. Cap. 19:2., văzătorul, s-a dus la Asa, împăratul lui Iuda, și i-a zis: „Pentru că*Is. 31:1.Ier. 17:5. te-ai sprijinit pe împăratul Siriei, și nu te-ai sprijinit pe Domnul Dumnezeul tău, de aceea a scăpat oastea împăratului Siriei din mâinile tale. 8 Etiopienii*Cap. 14:9. și libienii*Cap. 12:3. nu alcătuiau oare o oaste mare, cu o mulțime de care și călăreți? Și totuși Domnul i-a dat în mâinile tale pentru că te sprijiniseși pe El. 9 Căci Domnul Își întinde*Iov 34:21.Prov. 5:21;15:3.Ier. 16:17;32:19.Zah. 4:10. privirile peste tot pământul ca să sprijine pe aceia a căror inimă este întreagă a Lui. Ai lucrat ca un*1 Sam. 13:13. nebun în privința aceasta, căci de acum vei avea*1 Împ. 15:32. războaie." 10 Asa s-a mâniat pe văzător și l-a*Cap. 18:26.Ier. 20:2.Mat. 14:3. pus la închisoare, pentru că era înfuriat împotriva lui. Tot în același timp, Asa a apăsat și pe unii din popor. 11 Faptele*1 Împ. 15:23. lui Asa, cele dintâi și cele de pe urmă, sunt scrise în cartea împăraților lui Iuda și Israel. 12 În al treizeci și nouălea an al domniei sale, Asa s-a îmbolnăvit de picioare așa încât avea mari dureri; chiar în timpul bolii lui, n-a*Ier. 17:5. căutat pe Domnul, ci a întrebat pe doctori. 13 Asa a adormit*1 Împ. 15:24. cu părinții săi și a murit în al patruzeci și unulea an al domniei lui; 14 l-au îngropat în mormântul pe care și-l săpase în cetatea lui David. L-au culcat pe un pat pe care-l umpluseră cu mirodenii*Gen. 50:2.Marcu 16:1.Ioan 19:39,40. și mirosuri pregătite după meșteșugul celui ce pregătește mirul și au ars*Cap. 21:19.Ier. 34:5. în cinstea lui foarte multe mirodenii.
