1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign; and he reigned five and fifty years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Hephzibah. 2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, after the abominations of the nations whom Jehovah cast out before the children of Israel. 3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, as did Ahab king of Israel, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 4 And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, whereof Jehovah said, In Jerusalem will I put my name. 5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of Jehovah. 6 And he made his son to pass through the fire, and practised augury, and used enchantments, and dealt with them that had familiar spirits, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger. 7 And he set the graven image of Asherah, that he had made, in the house of which Jehovah said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever; 8 neither will I cause the feet of Israel to wander any more out of the land which I gave their fathers, if only they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them. 9 But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do that which is evil more than did the nations whom Jehovah destroyed before the children of Israel.

10 And Jehovah spake by his servants the prophets, saying, 11 Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, that were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols; 12 therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Behold, I bring such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle. 13 And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab; and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down. 14 And I will cast off the remnant of mine inheritance, and deliver them into the hand of their enemies; and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies; 15 because they have done that which is evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day.

16 Moreover Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; besides his sin wherewith he made Judah to sin, in doing that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah. 17 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and all that he did, and his sin that he sinned, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 18 And Manasseh slept with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza: and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

19 Amon was twenty and two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned two years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. 20 And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, as did Manasseh his father. 21 And he walked in all the way that his father walked in, and served the idols that his father served, and worshipped them: 22 and he forsook Jehovah, the God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of Jehovah. 23 And the servants of Amon conspired against him, and put the king to death in his own house. 24 But the people of the land slew all them that had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead. 25 Now the rest of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 26 And he was buried in his sepulchre in the garden of Uzza: and Josiah his son reigned in his stead.

Mama sa se numea Hefțiba. 2 El a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului, după urâciunile*Cap. 16:3. neamurilor pe care le izgonise Domnul dinaintea copiilor lui Israel. 3 El a zidit din nou înălțimile pe care*Cap. 18:4. le dărâmase tatăl său, Ezechia, a ridicat altare lui Baal, a făcut un idol al Astarteei, cum făcuse Ahab*1 Împ. 16:32., împăratul lui Israel, și s-a închinat*Deut. 4:19;17:3. Cap. 17:16. înaintea întregii oștiri a cerurilor și i-a slujit. 4 A*Ier. 32:34. zidit astfel altare în Casa Domnului, măcar că Domnul spusese: „În Ierusalim*2 Sam. 7:13.1 Împ. 8:29;9:3. Îmi voi pune Numele." 5 A zidit altare întregii oștiri a cerurilor în cele două curți ale Casei Domnului. 6 Și-a*Lev. 18:21;20:2. Cap. 16:3; 17:17. trecut pe fiul său prin foc; se îndeletnicea cu ghicirea*Lev. 19:26,31.Deut. 18:10,11. Cap. 17:17. și vrăjitoria și a ținut la el oameni care chemau duhurile și ghiceau viitorul. A făcut din ce în ce mai mult ce este rău înaintea Domnului, mâniindu-L. 7 A pus idolul Astarteei pe care-l făcuse în casa despre care Domnul spusese lui David și fiului său Solomon: „În casa*2 Sam. 7:13.1 Împ. 8:29;9:3. Cap. 23:27.Ps. 132:13,14.Ier. 32:34. aceasta și în Ierusalim, pe care l-am ales din toate semințiile lui Israel, vreau să pun pentru totdeauna Numele Meu. 8 Nu voi*2 Sam. 7:10. mai muta piciorul lui Israel afară din țara pe care am dat-o părinților lui, numai să aibă grijă să împlinească tot ce le-am poruncit și toată legea pe care le-a dat-o robul Meu Moise." 9 Dar ei n-au ascultat; și Manase a fost pricina pentru*Prov. 29:12. care s-au rătăcit și au făcut rău mai mult decât neamurile pe care le nimicise Domnul dinaintea copiilor lui Israel. 10 Atunci, Domnul a vorbit astfel prin robii Săi, prorocii: 11 „Pentru că*Cap. 23:26,27;24:3,4.Ier. 15:4. Manase, împăratul lui Iuda, a săvârșit aceste urâciuni, pentru că a făcut mai*1 Împ. 21:26. rău decât tot ce făcuseră înaintea lui amoriții și pentru că a făcut*Vers. 9. și pe Iuda să păcătuiască prin idolii lui, 12 iată ce zice Domnul Dumnezeul lui Israel: ‘Voi aduce peste Ierusalim și peste Iuda nenorociri care vor asurzi*1 Sam. 3:11.Ier. 19:3. urechile oricui va auzi vorbindu-se de ele. 13 Voi întinde asupra Ierusalimului frânghia*Is. 34:11.Plâng. 2:8.Amos 7:7,8. ca asupra Samariei și cumpăna ca asupra casei lui Ahab și voi curăți Ierusalimul ca o farfurie care se curățește și se răstoarnă cu fața în jos după ce a fost curățită. 14 Voi părăsi rămășița moștenirii Mele și-i voi da în mâinile vrăjmașilor lor; și vor ajunge de jaful și prada tuturor vrăjmașilor lor, 15 pentru că au făcut ce este rău înaintea Mea și M-au mâniat din ziua când au ieșit părinții lor din Egipt până în ziua de azi!’" 16 Manase*Cap. 24:4. a vărsat de asemenea mult sânge nevinovat, până acolo încât a umplut Ierusalimul de la un capăt la altul, afară de păcatele pe care le-a săvârșit și în care a târât și pe Iuda, făcând ce este rău înaintea Domnului. 17 Celelalte*2 Cron. 33:11-19. fapte ale lui Manase, tot ce a făcut el și păcatele la care s-a dedat, nu sunt scrise oare în Cartea Cronicilor împăraților lui Iuda? 18 Manase a adormit*2 Cron. 33:20. cu părinții săi și a fost îngropat în grădina casei, în grădina lui Uza. Și în locul lui a domnit fiul său Amon.

19 Amon avea douăzeci și doi*2 Cron. 33:21,23. de ani când a ajuns împărat și a domnit doi ani la Ierusalim. Mama sa se chema Meșulemet, fata lui Haruț, din Iotba. 20 El a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului, cum*Vers. 2. făcuse tatăl său Manase; 21 a umblat în toată calea în care umblase tatăl său, a slujit idolilor cărora slujise și tatăl său și s-a închinat înaintea lor; 22 a părăsit*1 Împ. 11:33. pe Domnul Dumnezeul părinților săi și n-a umblat în calea Domnului. 23 Slujitorii lui Amon au uneltit*2 Cron. 33:24,25. împotriva lui și au omorât pe împărat în casa lui. 24 Dar poporul țării a lovit pe toți cei ce uneltiseră împotriva împăratului Amon și poporul țării a pus împărat, în locul său, pe fiul său Iosia. 25 Celelalte fapte ale lui Amon și ce a făcut el nu sunt scrise oare în Cartea Cronicilor împăraților lui Iuda? 26 L-au îngropat în mormântul său, în grădina lui Uza. Și în locul lui a domnit fiul său Iosia.
