1 Now there was a certain man in Cæsarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, 2 a devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, who gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always. 3 He saw in a vision openly, as it were about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, Cornelius. 4 And he, fastening his eyes upon him, and being affrighted, said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are gone up for a memorial before God. 5 And now send men to Joppa, and fetch one Simon, who is surnamed Peter: 6 he lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side. 7 And when the angel that spake unto him was departed, he called two of his household-servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually; 8 and having rehearsed all things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

9 Now on the morrow, as they were on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour: 10 and he became hungry, and desired to eat: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance; 11 and he beholdeth the heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending, as it were a great sheet, let down by four corners upon the earth: 12 wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts and creeping things of the earth and birds of the heaven. 13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill and eat. 14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common and unclean. 15 And a voice came unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, make not thou common. 16 And this was done thrice: and straightway the vessel was received up into heaven.

17 Now while Peter was much perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men that were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate, 18 and called and asked whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, were lodging there. 19 And while Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. 20 But arise, and get thee down, and go with them, nothing doubting: for I have sent them. 21 And Peter went down to the men, and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come? 22 And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man and one that feareth God, and well reported of by all the nation of the Jews, was warned of God by a holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words from thee. 23 So he called them in and lodged them.

And on the morrow he arose and went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa accompanied him. 24 And on the morrow they entered into Cæsarea. And Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kinsmen and his near friends. 25 And when it came to pass that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. 26 But Peter raised him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man. 27 And as he talked with him, he went in, and findeth many come together: 28 and he said unto them, Ye yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to join himself or come unto one of another nation; and yet unto me hath God showed that I should not call any man common or unclean: 29 wherefore also I came without gainsaying, when I was sent for. I ask therefore with what intent ye sent for me. 30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago, until this hour, I was keeping the ninth hour of prayer in my house; and behold, a man stood before me in bright apparel, 31 and saith, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God. 32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call unto thee Simon, who is surnamed Peter; he lodgeth in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea side. 33 Forthwith therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to hear all things that have been commanded thee of the Lord. 34 And Peter opened his mouth, and said,

Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 but in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is acceptable to him. 36 The word which he sent unto the children of Israel, preaching good tidings of peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all)— 37 that saying ye yourselves know, which was published throughout all Judæa, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38 even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom also they slew, hanging him on a tree. 40 Him God raised up the third day, and gave him to be made manifest, 41 not to all the people, but unto witnesses that were chosen before of God, even to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 And he charged us to preach unto the people, and to testify that this is he who is ordained of God to be the Judge of the living and the dead. 43 To him bear all the prophets witness, that through his name every one that believeth on him shall receive remission of sins.

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them that heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision that believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid the water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Și îngerul i-a zis: „Rugăciunile și milosteniile tale s-au suit înaintea lui Dumnezeu, și El Și-a adus aminte de ele. 5 Trimite acum niște oameni la Iope și cheamă pe Simon, zis și Petru. 6 El găzduiește la un om numit Simon*Cap. 9:43. Tăbăcarul, a cărui casă este lângă mare: acela*Cap. 11:14. îți va spune ce trebuie să faci." 7 Cum a plecat îngerul care vorbise cu el, Corneliu a chemat două din slugile sale și un ostaș cucernic, din aceia care-i slujeau în tot timpul, 8 și, după ce le-a istorisit totul, i-a trimis la Iope.

9 A doua zi, când erau pe drum și se apropiau de cetate, Petru s-a suit*Cap. 11:5. să se roage pe acoperișul casei, pe la ceasul al șaselea. 10 L-a ajuns foamea și a vrut să mănânce. Pe când îi pregăteau mâncarea, a căzut într-o răpire sufletească. 11 A*Cap. 7:56.Apoc. 19:11. văzut cerul deschis și un vas ca o față de masă mare, legată cu cele patru colțuri, coborându-se și slobozindu-se în jos pe pământ. 12 În ea se aflau tot felul de dobitoace cu patru picioare și târâtoare de pe pământ și păsările cerului. 13 Și un glas i-a zis: „Petre, scoală-te, taie și mănâncă."14 „Nicidecum, Doamne", a răspuns Petru. „Căci*Lev. 11:4;20:25.Deut. 14:3,7.Ezec. 4:14. niciodată n-am mâncat ceva spurcat sau necurat." 15 Și glasul i-a zis iarăși a doua oară: „Ce*Mat. 15:11. Vers. 28.Rom. 14:14,17,20.1 Cor. 10:25.1 Tim. 4:4.Tit 1:15.a curățit Dumnezeu, să nu numești spurcat."16 Lucrul acesta s-a făcut de trei ori, și îndată după aceea, vasul a fost ridicat iarăși la cer. 17 Pe când Petru nu știa ce să creadă despre înțelesul vedeniei pe care o avusese, iată că oamenii trimiși de Corneliu, întrebând de casa lui Simon, au stat la poartă 18 și au întrebat cu glas tare dacă Simon, zis și Petru, găzduiește acolo. 19 Și pe când se gândea Petru la vedenia aceea, Duhul*Cap. 11:12. i-a zis: „Iată că te caută trei oameni; 20 scoală-te*Cap. 15:7., coboară-te și du-te cu ei fără șovăire, căci Eu i-am trimis." 21 Petru deci s-a coborât și a zis oamenilor acelora: „Eu sunt acela pe care-l căutați. Ce pricină vă aduce?" 22 Ei au răspuns: „Sutașul Corneliu*Vers. 1,2., om drept și temător de Dumnezeu și vorbit de bine*Cap. 22:12. de tot neamul iudeilor, a fost înștiințat de Dumnezeu, printr-un înger sfânt, să te cheme în casa lui și să audă cuvintele pe care i le vei spune." 23 Petru deci i-a chemat înăuntru și i-a găzduit. 24 A doua zi, s-a sculat și a plecat cu ei. L-au*Vers. 45. Cap. 11:12. însoțit și câțiva frați din Iope. În cealaltă zi au ajuns la Cezareea. Corneliu îi aștepta cu rudele și prietenii de aproape, pe care-i chemase. 25 Când era să intre Petru, Corneliu, care-i ieșise înainte, s-a aruncat la picioarele lui și i s-a închinat. 26 Dar Petru l-a ridicat și a zis: „Scoală-te*Cap. 14:14,15.Apoc. 19:10;22:9., și eu sunt om!" 27 Și vorbind cu el, a intrat în casă și a găsit adunați pe mulți. 28 „Știți", le-a zis el, „că*Ioan 4:9;18:28. Cap. 11:3.Gal. 2:12,14. nu este îngăduit de Lege unui iudeu să se însoțească împreună cu unul de alt neam sau să vină la el, dar Dumnezeu*Cap. 15:8,9.Efes. 3:6. mi-a arătat să nu numesc pe niciun om spurcat sau necurat. 29 De aceea am venit fără cârtire când m-ați chemat. Vă întreb dar: Cu ce gând ați trimis după mine?" 30 Corneliu a răspuns: „Acum patru zile, chiar în clipa aceasta, mă rugam în casa mea la ceasul al nouălea și iată că a stat înaintea mea un*Cap. 1:10. om cu*Mat. 28:3.Marcu 16:5.Luca 24:4. o haină strălucitoare 31 și a zis: ‘Cornelie, rugăciunea*Dan. 10:12. Vers. 4. ta a fost ascultată și*Evr. 6:10. Dumnezeu Și-a adus aminte de milosteniile tale. 32 Trimite dar la Iope și cheamă pe Simon, zis și Petru; el găzduiește în casa lui Simon Tăbăcarul, lângă mare. Când va veni el, îți va vorbi.’ 33 Am trimis îndată la tine și bine ai făcut că ai venit. Acum dar, toți suntem aici înaintea lui Dumnezeu, ca să ascultăm tot ce ți-a poruncit Domnul să ne spui." 34 Atunci, Petru a început să vorbească și a zis: „În*Deut. 10:17.2 Cron. 19:7.Iov 34:19.Rom. 2:11.Gal. 2:6.Efes. 6:9.Col. 3:25.1 Pet. 1:17. adevăr, văd că Dumnezeu nu este părtinitor, 35 ci că, în*Cap. 15:9.Rom. 2:13,27;3:22,29;10:12,13.1 Cor. 12:13.Gal. 3:28.Efes. 2:13,18;3:6. orice neam, cine se teme de El și lucrează neprihănire este primit de El. 36 El a trimis Cuvântul Său fiilor lui Israel și le-a vestit*Is. 57:19.Efes. 2:14,16,17.Col. 1:20. Evanghelia păcii, prin Isus Hristos, care este*Mat. 28:18.Rom. 10:12.1 Cor. 15:27.Efes. 1:20,22.1 Pet. 3:22.Apoc. 17:14;19:16. Domnul tuturor. 37 Știți vorba făcută prin toată Iudeea, începând*Luca 4:14. din Galileea, în urma botezului propovăduit de Ioan; 38 cum Dumnezeu*Luca 4:18. Cap. 2:22;4:27.Evr. 1:9. a uns cu Duhul Sfânt și cu putere pe Isus din Nazaret, care umbla din loc în loc, făcea bine și vindeca pe toți cei ce erau apăsați de diavolul, căci*Ioan 3:2. Dumnezeu era cu El. 39 Noi*Cap. 2:20. suntem martori a tot ce a făcut El în țara iudeilor și în Ierusalim. Ei L-au*Cap. 5:30. omorât, atârnându-L pe lemn. 40 Dar Dumnezeu L-a înviat*Cap. 2:24. a treia zi și a îngăduit să Se arate, 41 nu*Ioan 14:17,22. Cap. 13:31. la tot norodul, ci nouă, martorilor aleși mai dinainte de Dumnezeu, nouă, care*Luca 24:30,43.Ioan 21:13. am mâncat și am băut împreună cu El după ce a înviat din morți. 42 Isus ne-a*Mat. 28:19,20. Cap. 1:8. poruncit să propovăduim norodului și să mărturisim că*Ioan 5:22,27. Cap. 17:31. El a fost rânduit de Dumnezeu Judecătorul celor vii*Rom. 14:9,10.2 Tim. 4:1.1 Pet. 4:5. și al celor morți. 43 Toți prorocii mărturisesc despre El*Is. 53:11.Ier. 31:34.Dan. 9:24.Mica 7:18.Zah. 13:1.Mal. 4:2. Cap. 26:22. că oricine*Cap. 15:9;26:18.Rom. 10:11.Gal. 3:22. crede în El capătă, prin Numele Lui, iertarea păcatelor." 44 Pe când rostea Petru cuvintele acestea, S-a*Cap. 4:31;8:15-17;11:15. coborât Duhul Sfânt peste toți cei ce ascultau Cuvântul. 45 Toți credincioșii tăiați împrejur care veniseră cu Petru au rămas uimiți*Vers. 23. când au văzut că*Cap. 11:18.Gal. 3:14. darul Duhului Sfânt s-a vărsat și peste neamuri. 46 Căci îi auzeau vorbind în limbi și mărind pe Dumnezeu. Atunci Petru a zis: 47 „Se poate opri apa ca să nu fie botezați aceștia, care au primit Duhul Sfânt ca*Cap. 11:17;15:8,9.Rom. 10:12. și noi?" 48 Și a*1 Cron. 1:17. poruncit să fie botezați în*Cap. 2:38;8:16. Numele Domnului Isus Hristos. Atunci, l-au rugat să mai rămână câteva zile la ei.
