1 Now the apostles and the brethren that were in Judæa heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, 3 saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them. 4 But Peter began, and expounded the matter unto them in order, saying, 5 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel descending, as it were a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even unto me: 6 upon which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw the fourfooted beasts of the earth and wild beasts and creeping things and birds of the heaven. 7 And I heard also a voice saying unto me, Rise, Peter; kill and eat. 8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath ever entered into my mouth. 9 But a voice answered the second time out of heaven, What God hath cleansed, make not thou common. 10 And this was done thrice: and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11 And behold, forthwith three men stood before the house in which we were, having been sent from Cæsarea unto me. 12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, making no distinction. And these six brethren also accompanied me; and we entered into the man’s house: 13 and he told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying, Send to Joppa, and fetch Simon, whose surname is Peter; 14 who shall speak unto thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning. 16 And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit. 17 If then God gave unto them the like gift as he did also unto us, when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God? 18 And when they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then to the Gentiles also hath God granted repentance unto life.

19 They therefore that were scattered abroad upon the tribulation that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to none save only to Jews. 20 But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus. 21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number that believed turned unto the Lord. 22 And the report concerning them came to the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas as far as Antioch: 23 who, when he was come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad; and he exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord: 24 for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord. 25 And he went forth to Tarsus to seek for Saul; 26 and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that even for a whole year they were gathered together with the church, and taught much people; and that the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

27 Now in these days there came down prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch. 28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be a great famine over all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius. 29 And the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren that dwelt in Judæa: 30 which also they did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

1 Apostolii și frații care erau în Iudeea au auzit că și neamurile au primit Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu. 2 Și când s-a suit Petru la Ierusalim, îl*Cap. 10:45.Gal. 2:12. mustrau cei tăiați împrejur 3 și ziceau: „Ai*Cap. 10:28. intrat în casă la niște oameni netăiați împrejur și*Gal. 2:12. ai mâncat cu ei." 4 Petru a început să le spună pe*Luca 1:3. rând cele întâmplate. El a zis: 5 „Eram*Cap. 10:9. în cetatea Iope și, pe când mă rugam, am căzut într-o răpire sufletească și am avut o vedenie: un vas, ca o față de masă mare, legată cu cele patru colțuri, se cobora din cer și a venit până la mine. 6 Când m-am uitat în ea, am văzut dobitoacele cu patru picioare de pe pământ, fiarele, târâtoarele și păsările cerului. 7 Și am auzit un glas, care mi-a zis: ‘Petre, scoală-te, taie și mănâncă.’8 Dar eu am răspuns: ‘Nicidecum, Doamne, căci nimic spurcat sau necurat n-a intrat vreodată în gura mea.’ 9 Și glasul mi-a zis a doua oară din cer: ‘Ce a curățit Dumnezeu, să nu numești spurcat.’10 Lucrul acesta s-a făcut de trei ori, apoi toate au fost ridicate iarăși în cer. 11 Și iată că, îndată, trei oameni trimiși din Cezareea la mine au stat la poarta casei în care eram. 12 Duhul*Ioan 16:13. Cap. 10:19;15:7. mi-a spus să plec cu ei, fără să fac vreo deosebire. Acești*Cap. 10:23. șase frați m-au însoțit și ei și am intrat în casa omului. 13 El*Cap. 10:30. ne-a istorisit cum a văzut în casa lui pe înger stând înaintea lui și zicându-i: ‘Trimite la Iope și cheamă pe Simon, zis și Petru, 14 care-ți va spune cuvinte prin care vei fi mântuit, tu și toată casa ta.’ 15 Și, cum am început să vorbesc, Duhul Sfânt S-a coborât peste ei ca*Cap. 2:4. și peste noi la început. 16 Și mi-am adus aminte de vorba Domnului, cum a zis: ‘Ioan*Mat. 3:11.Ioan 1:26,33. Cap. 1:5;19:4.a botezat cu apă, dar voi*Is. 44:3.Ioel 2:28;3:18.veți fi botezați cu Duhul Sfânt.’17 Deci*Cap. 15:8,9., dacă Dumnezeu le-a dat același dar ca și nouă, care am crezut în Domnul Isus Hristos, cine*Cap. 10:47. eram eu să mă împotrivesc lui Dumnezeu?" 18 După ce au auzit aceste lucruri, s-au potolit, au slăvit pe Dumnezeu și au zis: „Dumnezeu a dat deci*Rom. 10:12,13;15:9,16. și neamurilor pocăință, ca să aibă viața."

19 Cei ce*Cap. 8:1. se împrăștiaseră din pricina prigonirii întâmplate cu prilejul lui Ștefan au ajuns până în Fenicia, în Cipru și în Antiohia și propovăduiau Cuvântul numai iudeilor. 20 Totuși printre ei au fost câțiva oameni din Cipru și din Cirene, care au venit în Antiohia, au vorbit și grecilor*Cap. 6:1;9:29. și le-au propovăduit Evanghelia Domnului Isus. 21 Mâna*Luca 1:66. Cap. 2:47. Domnului era cu ei și un mare număr de oameni au crezut și s-au*Cap. 9:35. întors la Domnul. 22 Vestea despre ei a ajuns la urechile Bisericii din Ierusalim, și au trimis pe Barnaba*Cap. 9:27. până la Antiohia. 23 Când a ajuns el și a văzut harul lui Dumnezeu, s-a bucurat și i-a îndemnat*Cap. 13:43;14:22. pe toți să rămână cu inimă hotărâtă alipiți de Domnul. 24 Căci Barnaba era un om de bine, plin*Cap. 6:5. de Duhul Sfânt și de credință. Și*Vers. 21. Cap. 5:14. destul de mult norod s-a adăugat la Domnul. 25 Barnaba s-a dus apoi la Tars*Cap. 9:30., ca să caute pe Saul 26 și, când l-a găsit, l-a adus la Antiohia. Un an întreg, au luat parte la adunările Bisericii și au învățat pe mulți oameni. Pentru întâiași dată, ucenicilor li s-a dat numele de creștini în Antiohia.

27 În vremea aceea, s-au coborât niște proroci*Cap. 2:17;13:1;15:32;21:9.1 Cor. 12:28.Efes. 4:11. din Ierusalim la Antiohia. 28 Unul din ei, numit Agab*Cap. 21:10., s-a sculat și a vestit, prin Duhul, că va fi o foamete mare în toată lumea. Și a fost, în adevăr, în zilele împăratului Claudiu. 29 Ucenicii au hotărât să trimită, fiecare după puterea lui, un ajutor*Rom. 15:26.1 Cor. 16:1.2 Cor. 9:1. fraților care locuiau în Iudeea, 30 ceea ce*Cap. 12:25. au și făcut, și au trimis acest ajutor la prezbiteri*11:30 Sau: bătrâni. prin mâna lui Barnaba și a lui Saul.
