1 And it came to pass in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake that a great multitude both of Jews and of Greeks believed. 2 But the Jews that were disobedient stirred up the souls of the Gentiles, and made them evil affected against the brethren. 3 Long time therefore they tarried there speaking boldly in the Lord, who bare witness unto the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. 4 But the multitude of the city was divided; and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. 5 And when there was made an onset both of the Gentiles and of the Jews with their rulers, to treat them shamefully and to stone them, 6 they became aware of it, and fled unto the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the region round about: 7 and there they preached the gospel.

8 And at Lystra there sat a certain man, impotent in his feet, a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked. 9 The same heard Paul speaking: who, fastening his eyes upon him, and seeing that he had faith to be made whole, 10 said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped up and walked. 11 And when the multitude saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. 12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercury, because he was the chief speaker. 13 And the priest of Jupiter whose temple was before the city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the multitudes. 14 But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they rent their garments, and sprang forth among the multitude, crying out 15 and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good tidings, that ye should turn from these vain things unto a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is: 16 who in the generations gone by suffered all the nations to walk in their own ways. 17 And yet he left not himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness. 18 And with these sayings scarce restrained they the multitudes from doing sacrifice unto them.

19 But there came Jews thither from Antioch and Iconium: and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. 20 But as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and entered into the city: and on the morrow he went forth with Barnabas to Derbe. 21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch, 22 confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God. 23 And when they had appointed for them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they had believed. 24 And they passed through Pisidia, and came to Pamphylia. 25 And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia; 26 and thence they sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled. 27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all things that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith unto the Gentiles. 28 And they tarried no little time with the disciples.

1 În Iconia, Pavel și Barnaba au intrat în sinagoga iudeilor și au vorbit în așa fel că o mare mulțime de iudei și de greci au crezut. 2 Dar iudeii care n-au crezut au întărâtat și au răzvrătit sufletele neamurilor împotriva fraților. 3 Totuși au rămas destul de multă vreme în Iconia și vorbeau cu îndrăzneală în Domnul, care*Marcu 16:20.Evr. 2:4. adeverea Cuvântul privitor la harul Său și îngăduia să se facă semne și minuni prin mâinile lor. 4 Mulțimea din cetate s-a dezbinat: unii erau cu iudeii, alții cu apostolii*Cap. 13:3.. 5 Neamurile și iudeii, în învoire cu mai-marii lor, s-au pus în mișcare, ca să-i*2 Tim. 3:11. batjocorească și să-i ucidă cu pietre. 6 Pavel și Barnaba au înțeles lucrul acesta și au fugit*Mat. 10:23. în cetățile Licaoniei: Listra și Derbe, și în ținutul de primprejur. 7 Și au propovăduit Evanghelia acolo.

8 În*Cap. 3:2. Listra era un om neputincios de picioare, olog din naștere, care nu umblase niciodată. 9 El ședea jos și asculta pe Pavel când vorbea. Pavel s-a uitat țintă la el, și fiindcă a văzut*Mat. 8:10;9:28,29. că are credință ca să fie tămăduit, 10 a zis cu glas tare: „Scoală-te*Is. 35:6. drept în picioare." Și el s-a sculat dintr-o săritură și a început să umble. 11 La vederea celor făcute de Pavel, noroadele și-au ridicat glasul și au zis în limba licaoniană: „Zeii*Cap. 8:10;28:6. s-au coborât la noi în chip omenesc." 12 Pe Barnaba îl numeau Jupiter, iar pe Pavel, Mercur, pentru că mânuia cuvântul. 13 Preotul lui Jupiter, al cărui templu era la intrarea cetății, a adus tauri și cununi înaintea porților și voia*Dan. 2:46. să le aducă jertfă, împreună cu noroadele. 14 Apostolii Barnaba și Pavel, când au auzit lucrul acesta, și-au*Mat. 26:65. rupt hainele, au sărit în mijlocul norodului și au strigat: 15 „Oamenilor, de*Cap. 10:26. ce faceți lucrul acesta? Și noi suntem*Iac. 5:17.Apoc. 19:10. oameni de aceeași fire cu voi; noi vă aducem o veste bună, ca să vă întoarceți de la aceste lucruri*1 Sam. 12:21.1 Împ. 16:13.Ier. 14:22.Amos 2:4.1 Cor. 8:4. deșarte*1 Tes. 1:9. la Dumnezeul cel viu, care*Gen. 1:1.Ps. 33:6;146:6.Apoc. 14:7. a făcut cerul, pământul și marea și tot ce este în ele. 16 El*Ps. 81:12. Cap. 17:30.1 Pet. 4:3., în veacurile trecute, a lăsat pe toate neamurile să umble pe căile lor, 17 măcar că*Cap. 17:27.Rom. 1:20., drept vorbind, nu S-a lăsat fără mărturie, întrucât v-a făcut bine, v-a trimis*Lev. 26:4.Deut. 11:14;28:12.Iov 5:10.Ps. 65:10;68:9;147:8.Ier. 14:22.Mat. 5:45. ploi din cer și timpuri roditoare, v-a dat hrană din belșug și v-a umplut inimile de bucurie." 18 Abia au putut să împiedice, cu vorbele acestea, pe noroade să le aducă jertfă.

19 Atunci, au venit pe neașteptate din*Cap. 13:45. Antiohia și Iconia niște iudei, care au ațâțat pe noroade. Aceștia, după ce au împroșcat*2 Cor. 11:25.2 Tim. 3:11. pe Pavel cu pietre, l-au târât afară din cetate, crezând că a murit. 20 Când l-au înconjurat însă ucenicii, Pavel s-a sculat și a intrat în cetate. A doua zi, a plecat cu Barnaba la Derbe. 21 După ce au propovăduit Evanghelia în cetatea aceasta și*Mat. 28:19. au făcut mulți ucenici, s-au întors la Listra, la Iconia și la Antiohia, 22 întărind sufletele ucenicilor. El îi îndemna*Cap. 11:23;13:43. să stăruiască în credință și spunea că în Împărăția lui Dumnezeu trebuie*Mat. 10:38;16:24.Luca 22:28,29.Rom. 8:17.2 Tim. 2:11,12;3:12. să intrăm prin multe necazuri. 23 Au*Tit 1:5. rânduit prezbiteri în fiecare Biserică și, după ce s-au rugat și au postit, i-au încredințat în mâna Domnului, în care crezuseră. 24 Au trecut apoi prin Pisidia, au venit în Pamfilia, 25 au vestit Cuvântul în Perga și s-au coborât la Atalia. 26 De*Cap. 13:1,3. acolo au mers cu corabia la Antiohia, de unde fuseseră încredințați*Cap. 15:40. în grija harului lui Dumnezeu pentru lucrarea pe care o săvârșiseră. 27 După venirea lor, au adunat Biserica și au*Cap. 15:4,12;21:19. istorisit tot ce făcuse Dumnezeu prin ei și cum deschisese*1 Cor. 16:9.2 Cor. 2:12.Col. 4:3.Apoc. 3:8. neamurilor ușa credinței. 28 Și au rămas destul de multă vreme acolo, cu ucenicii.
