1 So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen. 2 And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed. 3 Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favor in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request: 4 for we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my peace, although the adversary could not have compensated for the king’s damage. 5 Then spake the king Ahasuerus and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so? 6 And Esther said, An adversary and an enemy, even this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen. 7 And the king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. 8 Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the couch whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he even force the queen before me in the house? As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face. 9 Then said Harbonah, one of the chamberlains that were before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman hath made for Mordecai, who spake good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman. And the king said, Hang him thereon. 10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king’s wrath pacified.

1 Împăratul și Haman s-au dus la ospăț la împărăteasa Estera. 2 În această a doua zi, împăratul a zis iarăși Esterei pe când beau*Cap. 5:6. vin: „Care este cererea ta, împărăteasă Estera? Ea îți va fi împlinită. Ce dorești? Chiar dacă ai cere jumătate din împărăție, o vei căpăta." 3 Împărăteasa Estera a răspuns: „Dacă am căpătat trecere înaintea ta, împărate, și dacă găsește cu cale împăratul, dă-mi viața – iată cererea mea – și scapă pe poporul meu – iată dorința mea! 4 Căci eu și poporul meu suntem vânduți*Cap. 3:9;4:7. să fim nimiciți, înjunghiați și prăpădiți. Măcar dacă am fi vânduți să fim robi și roabe, aș tăcea, dar vrăjmașul n-ar putea să înlocuiască pierderea făcută împăratului." 5 Împăratul Ahașveroș a luat cuvântul și a zis împărătesei Estera: „Cine și unde este acela care are de gând să facă așa?" 6 Estera a răspuns: „Apăsătorul, vrăjmașul, este Haman, răul acesta!" Haman a rămas îngrozit în fața împăratului și a împărătesei. 7 Și împăratul, în mânia lui, s-a sculat și a părăsit ospățul și s-a dus în grădina casei împărătești. Haman a rămas să-și ceară viața de la împărăteasa Estera, căci vedea bine că pierderea lui era hotărâtă în mintea împăratului. 8 Când s-a întors împăratul din grădina casei împărătești în odaia ospățului, a văzut pe Haman că se aruncase spre*Cap. 1:6. patul pe care era Estera și i-a zis: „Cum, să mai și silești pe împărăteasă la mine, în casa împărătească?"

Cum au ieșit cuvintele acestea din gura împăratului, i-au și acoperit*Iov 9:34. fața lui Haman. 9 Și Harbona*Cap. 1:10., unul din fameni, a zis în fața împăratului: „Iată, spânzurătoarea*Cap. 5:14.Ps. 7:16.Prov. 11:5,6. pregătită de Haman pentru Mardoheu, care a vorbit spre binele împăratului, este ridicată în casa lui Haman, la o înălțime de cincizeci de coți." Împăratul a zis: „Haman să fie spânzurat pe ea!" 10 Și au spânzurat*Ps. 37:35,36.Dan. 6:24. pe Haman pe spânzurătoarea pe care o pregătise el pentru Mardoheu. Și mânia împăratului s-a potolit.
