1 And the man knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man with the help of Jehovah. 2 And again she bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto Jehovah. 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And Jehovah had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 5 but unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. 6 And Jehovah said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If thou doest well, shall it not be lifted up? and if thou doest not well, sin coucheth at the door; and unto thee shall be its desire; but do thou rule over it. 8 And Cain told Abel his brother. And it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

9 And Jehovah said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: am I my brother’s keeper? 10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground. 11 And now cursed art thou from the ground, which hath opened its mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; 12 when thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee its strength; a fugitive and a wanderer shalt thou be in the earth. 13 And Cain said unto Jehovah, My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the ground; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth; and it will come to pass, that whosoever findeth me will slay me. 15 And Jehovah said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And Jehovah appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should smite him.

16 And Cain went out from the presence of Jehovah, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. 18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael; and Mehujael begat Methushael; and Methushael begat Lamech. 19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents and have cattle. 21 And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and pipe. 22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, the forger of every cutting instrument of brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah. 23 And Lamech said unto his wives:

Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;

Ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech:

For I have slain a man for wounding me,

And a young man for bruising me:

24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold,

Truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For, said she, God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel; for Cain slew him. 26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enosh. Then began men to call upon the name of Jehovah.

1 Adam s-a împreunat cu nevastă-sa Eva; ea a rămas însărcinată și a născut pe Cain. Și a zis: „Am căpătat un om cu ajutorul Domnului!" 2 A mai născut și pe fratele său Abel. Abel era cioban, iar Cain era plugar*Cap. 3:23;9:20.. 3 După o bucată de vreme, Cain a adus Domnului o jertfă de mâncare*4:3 Sau: o jertfă pentru păcat. din roadele*Num. 18:12. pământului. 4 Abel a adus și el o jertfă de mâncare din oile întâi*Num. 18:17.Prov. 3:9. născute ale turmei lui și din grăsimea lor. Domnul a privit cu plăcere*Evr. 11:4. spre Abel și spre jertfa lui, 5 dar spre Cain și spre jertfa lui n-a privit cu plăcere. Cain s-a mâniat foarte tare și*Cap. 31:2. i s-a posomorât fața. 6 Și Domnul a zis lui Cain: „Pentru ce te-ai mâniat și pentru ce ți s-a posomorât fața? 7 Nu-i așa? Dacă faci bine, vei fi bine primit, dar, dacă faci rău, păcatul pândește*Iac. 1:15. la ușă; dorința lui se ține după tine, dar tu să-l stăpânești." 8 Însă Cain a zis fratelui său Abel: „Haidem să ieșim la câmp." Dar, pe când erau la câmp, Cain s-a ridicat împotriva fratelui său Abel și l-a omorât*Mat. 23:35.1 Ioan 3:12.Iuda 11..

9 Domnul a zis lui Cain: „Unde*Ps. 9:12. este fratele tău Abel?" El a răspuns: „Nu știu*Ioan 8:44.. Sunt eu păzitorul fratelui meu?" 10 Și Dumnezeu a zis: „Ce ai făcut? Glasul*Evr. 12:24.Apoc. 6:10. sângelui fratelui tău strigă din pământ la Mine. 11 Acum, blestemat ești tu, izgonit din ogorul acesta, care și-a deschis gura ca să primească din mâna ta sângele fratelui tău! 12 Când vei lucra pământul, să nu-ți mai dea bogăția lui. Pribeag și fugar să fii pe pământ." 13 Cain a zis Domnului: „Pedeapsa mea e prea mare ca s-o pot suferi. 14 Iată că Tu*Iov 15:20-24. mă izgonești azi de pe fața pământului; eu va trebui să mă ascund de Fața*Ps. 51:11. Ta și să fiu pribeag și fugar pe pământ, și oricine*Cap. 9:6.Num. 35:19,21,27. mă va găsi mă va omorî." 15 Domnul i-a zis: „Nicidecum, ci, dacă va omorî cineva pe Cain, Cain să fie răzbunat de șapte*Ps. 79:12. ori." Și Domnul a hotărât*Ezec. 9:4,6. un semn pentru Cain, ca oricine îl va găsi să nu-l omoare. 16 Apoi, Cain a ieșit*2 Împ. 13:23;24:20.Ier. 23:39;52:3. din Fața Domnului și a locuit în țara Nod*4:16 Adică: Fugă., la răsărit de Eden.

17 Cain s-a împreunat cu nevastă-sa; ea a rămas însărcinată și a născut pe Enoh. El a început apoi să zidească o cetate și a pus*Ps. 49:11. acestei cetăți numele fiului său Enoh. 18 Enoh a fost tatăl lui Irad; Irad a fost tatăl lui Mehuiael; Mehuiael a fost tatăl lui Metușael și Metușael a fost tatăl lui Lameh. 19 Lameh și-a luat două neveste: numele uneia era Ada și numele celeilalte era Țila. 20 Ada a născut pe Iabal: el a fost tatăl celor ce locuiesc în corturi și păzesc vitele. 21 Numele fratelui său era Iubal: el a fost tatăl*Rom. 4:11,12. tuturor celor ce cântă cu alăuta și cu cavalul. 22 Țila, de partea ei, a născut și ea pe Tubal-Cain, făuritorul tuturor uneltelor de aramă și de fier. Sora lui Tubal-Cain era Naama.

23 Lameh a zis nevestelor sale:

„Ada și Țila, ascultați glasul meu!

Nevestele lui Lameh, ascultați cuvântul meu!

Am omorât un om pentru rana mea

Și un tânăr pentru vânătăile mele.

24 Cain*Vers. 15. va fi răzbunat de șapte ori,

Iar Lameh, de șaptezeci de ori câte șapte."

25 Adam s-a împreunat iarăși cu nevastă-sa; ea a născut un fiu și i-a*Cap. 5:3. pus numele Set*4:25 Adică: Înlocuit.; „căci", a zis ea, „Dumnezeu mi-a dat o altă sămânță în locul lui Abel, pe care l-a ucis Cain". 26 Lui Set i s-a născut*Cap. 5:6. și lui un fiu și i-a pus numele Enos. Atunci au început oamenii să cheme*1 Împ. 18:24.Ps. 116:17.Ioel 2:32.Ţef. 3:9.1 Cor. 1:2. Numele Domnului.
