1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of any tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat: 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat. 7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah God amongst the trees of the garden.

9 And Jehovah God called unto the man, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? 12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 13 And Jehovah God said unto the woman, What is this thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. 14 And Jehovah God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, cursed art thou above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15 and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: he shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. 16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy pain and thy conception; in pain thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. 17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in toil shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 18 thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 19 in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. 20 And the man called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. 21 And Jehovah God made for Adam and for his wife coats of skins, and clothed them.

22 And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever— 23 therefore Jehovah God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden the Cherubim, and the flame of a sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

El a zis femeii: „Oare a zis Dumnezeu cu adevărat: ‘Să nu mâncați din toți pomii din grădină’?" 2 Femeia a răspuns șarpelui: „Putem să mâncăm din rodul tuturor pomilor din grădină. 3 Dar*Cap. 2:17., despre rodul pomului din mijlocul grădinii, Dumnezeu a zis: ‘Să nu mâncați din el și nici să nu vă atingeți de el, ca să nu muriți.’" 4 Atunci, șarpele*Vers. 13.2 Cor. 11:3.1 Tim. 2:14. a zis femeii: „Hotărât că nu veți muri, 5 dar Dumnezeu știe că, în ziua când veți mânca din el, vi*Vers. 7.Fapte 26:18. se vor deschide ochii și veți fi ca Dumnezeu, cunoscând binele și răul." 6 Femeia a văzut că pomul era bun de mâncat și plăcut de privit și că pomul era de dorit ca să deschidă cuiva mintea. A luat deci din rodul lui și a mâncat*1 Tim. 2:14.; a dat și bărbatului ei, care era lângă ea, și bărbatul*Vers. 12,17. a mâncat și el.

7 Atunci li s-au deschis*Vers. 5. ochii la amândoi; au cunoscut*Cap. 2:25. că erau goi, au cusut laolaltă frunze de smochin și și-au făcut șorțuri*3:7 Sau: cingători. din ele. 8 Atunci au auzit glasul*Iov 38:1. Domnului Dumnezeu, care umbla prin grădină în răcoarea zilei*3:8 Evreiește: vântul., și omul și nevasta lui s-au ascuns*Iov 31:33.Ier. 23:24.Amos 9:3. de Fața Domnului Dumnezeu printre pomii din grădină. 9 Dar Domnul Dumnezeu a chemat pe om și i-a zis: „Unde ești?" 10 El a răspuns: „Ți-am auzit glasul în grădină și mi-a fost frică*Cap. 2:25.Exod 3:6.1 Ioan 3:20., pentru că eram gol, și m-am ascuns." 11 Și Domnul Dumnezeu a zis: „Cine ți-a spus că ești gol? Nu cumva ai mâncat din pomul din care îți poruncisem să nu mănânci?" 12 Omul a răspuns: „Femeia*Cap. 2:18.Iov 31:33.Prov. 28:13. pe care mi-ai dat-o ca să fie lângă mine, ea mi-a dat din pom și am mâncat." 13 Și Domnul Dumnezeu a zis femeii: „Ce ai făcut?" Femeia a răspuns: „Șarpele*Vers. 4.2 Cor. 11:3.1 Tim. 2:14. m-a amăgit și am mâncat din pom." 14 Domnul Dumnezeu a zis șarpelui: „Fiindcă ai făcut lucrul acesta, blestemat ești între toate vitele și între toate fiarele de pe câmp; în toate zilele vieții tale, să te târăști pe pântece și să mănânci țărână*Is. 65:25.Mica 7:17.. 15 Vrăjmășie*Mat. 3:7;13:38;23:33.Ioan 8:44.Fapte 13:10.1 Ioan 3:8. voi pune între tine și femeie, între sămânța ta și sămânța*Ps. 132:11.Is. 7:14.Mica 5:3.Mat. 1:23,25.Luca 1:31,34,35.Gal. 4:4. ei*Rom. 16:20.Col. 2:15.Evr. 1:14.1 Ioan 5:5.Apoc. 12:7,17.. Aceasta*Ps. 48:6.Is. 13:8;21:3.Ioan 16:21.1 Tim. 2:15. îți va zdrobi capul, și tu îi vei zdrobi călcâiul." 16 Femeii i-a zis: „Voi mări foarte mult suferința și însărcinarea ta; cu*Cap. 4:7. durere vei naște copii, și dorințele*1 Cor. 11:3;14:34.Efes. 5:22-24.Tit 2:5.1 Pet. 3:1,5,6. tale se vor ține după bărbatul tău, iar el va stăpâni*1 Sam. 15:13. peste tine." 17 Omului i-a zis: „Fiindcă*Vers. 6. ai ascultat de glasul nevestei tale și ai mâncat*Cap. 2:17. din pomul despre care*Ecl. 1:2,3.Is. 24:5,6.Rom. 8:20. îți poruncisem: ‘Să nu mănânci deloc din el’, blestemat*Iov 5:7.Ecl. 2:23. este acum pământul din pricina ta. Cu multă trudă*Iov 31:40. să-ți scoți hrana din el în toate zilele vieții tale; 18 spini*Ps. 104:14. și pălămidă să-ți dea și să mănânci*Ecl. 1:13.2 Tes. 3:10. iarba de pe câmp. 19 În sudoarea*Cap. 2:7. feței tale să-ți mănânci pâinea până te vei întoarce în pământ, căci din el ai fost luat; căci țărână*Iov 21:26;34:15.Ps. 104:29.Ecl. 3:20;12:7.Rom. 5:12.Evr. 9:27. ești și în*Vers. 5.Is. 19:12.Is. 47:12,13.Ier. 22:23. țărână te vei întoarce." 20 Adam a pus nevestei sale numele Eva*3:20 Adică: Viață., căci ea a fost mama tuturor celor vii. 21 Domnul Dumnezeu a făcut lui Adam și nevestei lui haine de piele și i-a îmbrăcat cu ele. 22 Domnul Dumnezeu a zis: „Iată*Cap. 2:9. că omul a ajuns ca unul din Noi, cunoscând binele și răul. Să-l împiedicăm dar acum ca nu cumva să-și întindă mâna, să*Cap. 4:2;9:20. ia și din pomul vieții, să mănânce din el și să trăiască în veci." 23 De aceea, Domnul Dumnezeu l-a izgonit din grădina Edenului ca*Cap. 2:8. să lucreze pământul, din care fusese luat. 24 Astfel a izgonit El pe Adam; și la răsăritul*Ps. 104:4.Evr. 1:7. grădinii Edenului a pus niște heruvimi*Exod 25:18-22.Ezec. 28:11-16., care să învârtească o sabie învăpăiată, ca să păzească drumul care duce la pomul vieții.
