1 Now after two days was the feast of the passover and the unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him with subtlety, and kill him: 2 for they said, Not during the feast, lest haply there shall be a tumult of the people.

3 And while he was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster cruse of ointment of pure nard very costly; and she brake the cruse, and poured it over his head. 4 But there were some that had indignation among themselves, saying, To what purpose hath this waste of the ointment been made? 5 For this ointment might have been sold for above three hundred shillings, and given to the poor. And they murmured against her. 6 But Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. 7 For ye have the poor always with you, and whensoever ye will ye can do them good: but me ye have not always. 8 She hath done what she could; she hath anointed my body beforehand for the burying. 9 And verily I say unto you, Wheresoever the gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, that also which this woman hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

10 And Judas Iscariot, he that was one of the twelve, went away unto the chief priests, that he might deliver him unto them. 11 And they, when they heard it, were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently deliver him unto them.

12 And on the first day of unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the passover, his disciples say unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and make ready that thou mayest eat the passover? 13 And he sendeth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him; 14 and wheresoever he shall enter in, say to the master of the house, The Teacher saith, Where is my guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? 15 And he will himself show you a large upper room furnished and ready: and there make ready for us. 16 And the disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

17 And when it was evening he cometh with the twelve. 18 And as they sat and were eating, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you shall betray me, even he that eateth with me. 19 They began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? 20 And he said unto them, It is one of the twelve, he that dippeth with me in the dish. 21 For the Son of man goeth, even as it is written of him: but woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had not been born.

22 And as they were eating, he took bread, and when he had blessed, he brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take ye: this is my body. 23 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave to them: and they all drank of it. 24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Verily I say unto you, I shall no more drink of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out unto the mount of Olives.

27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered abroad. 28 Howbeit, after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee. 29 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I. 30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, that thou to-day, even this night, before the cock crow twice, shalt deny me thrice. 31 But he spake exceeding vehemently, If I must die with thee, I will not deny thee. And in like manner also said they all.

32 And they come unto a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith unto his disciples, Sit ye here, while I pray. 33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly amazed, and sore troubled. 34 And he saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death: abide ye here, and watch. 35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him. 36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; remove this cup from me: howbeit not what I will, but what thou wilt. 37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest thou not watch one hour? 38 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 39 And again he went away, and prayed, saying the same words. 40 And again he came, and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they knew not what to answer him. 41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough; the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Arise, let us be going: behold, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

43 And straightway, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 Now he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he; take him, and lead him away safely. 45 And when he was come, straightway he came to him, and saith, Rabbi; and kissed him. 46 And they laid hands on him, and took him. 47 But a certain one of them that stood by drew his sword, and smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear. 48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves to seize me? 49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but this is done that the scriptures might be fulfilled. 50 And they all left him, and fled.

51 And a certain young man followed with him, having a linen cloth cast about him, over his naked body: and they lay hold on him; 52 but he left the linen cloth, and fled naked.

53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and there come together with him all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes. 54 And Peter had followed him afar off, even within, into the court of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers, and warming himself in the light of the fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the whole council sought witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found it not. 56 For many bare false witness against him, and their witness agreed not together. 57 And there stood up certain, and bare false witness against him, saying, 58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands. 59 And not even so did their witness agree together. 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and saith unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? 62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven. 63 And the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What further need have we of witnesses? 64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be worthy of death. 65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers received him with blows of their hands.

66 And as Peter was beneath in the court, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest; 67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and saith, Thou also wast with the Nazarene, even Jesus. 68 But he denied, saying, I neither know, nor understand what thou sayest: and he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. 69 And the maid saw him, and began again to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. 70 But he again denied it. And after a little while again they that stood by said to Peter, Of a truth thou art one of them; for thou art a Galilæan. 71 But he began to curse, and to swear, I know not this man of whom ye speak. 72 And straightway the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word, how that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

1 După două*Mat. 26:2.Luca 22:1.Ioan 11:55;13:1. zile era Praznicul Paștelor și al Azimilor. Preoții cei mai de seamă și cărturarii căutau cum să prindă pe Isus cu vicleșug și să-L omoare. 2 Căci ziceau: „Nu în timpul praznicului, ca nu cumva să se facă tulburare în norod."

3 Pe*Mat. 26:6.Ioan 12:1,3.Luca 7:37. când ședea Isus la masă, în Betania, în casa lui Simon leprosul, a venit o femeie care avea un vas de alabastru cu mir de nard curat, foarte scump, și, după ce a spart vasul, a turnat mirul pe capul lui Isus. 4 Unora dintre ei le-a fost necaz și ziceau: „Ce rost are risipa aceasta de mir? 5 Mirul acesta s-ar fi putut vinde cu mai mult de trei sute de lei*14:5 Grecește: dinari. și să se dea săracilor." Și le era foarte necaz pe femeia aceea. 6 Dar Isus le-a zis: „Lăsați-o în pace. De ce-i faceți supărare? Ea a făcut un lucru frumos față de Mine,7 căci pe*Deut. 15:11.săraci îi aveți totdeauna cu voi și le puteți face bine oricând voiți, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveți totdeauna.8 Ea a făcut ce a putut; Mi-a uns trupul mai dinainte pentru îngropare.9 Adevărat vă spun că, oriunde va fi propovăduită Evanghelia aceasta, în toată lumea, se va istorisi și ce a făcut femeia aceasta, spre pomenirea ei."10 Iuda*Mat. 26:14.Luca 22:3,4. Iscarioteanul, unul din cei doisprezece, s-a dus la preoții cei mai de seamă, ca să le vândă pe Isus. 11 Când au auzit ei lucrul acesta, s-au bucurat și i-au făgăduit bani. Și Iuda căuta un prilej nimerit ca să-L dea în mâinile lor.

12 În*Mat. 26:17.Luca 22:7. ziua dintâi a Praznicului Azimilor, când jertfeau Paștele, ucenicii lui Isus I-au zis:

„Unde voiești să ne ducem să-Ți pregătim ca să mănânci Paștele?"

13 El a trimis pe doi din ucenicii Săi și le-a zis: „Duceți-vă în cetate. Acolo aveți să întâlniți un om ducând un urcior cu apă, mergeți după el.14 Unde va intra el, spuneți stăpânului casei: ‘Învățătorul zice: «Unde este odaia pentru oaspeți, în care să mănânc Paștele cu ucenicii Mei?»’15 Și are să vă arate o odaie mare de sus, așternută gata; acolo să pregătiți pentru noi."16 Ucenicii au plecat, au ajuns în cetate și au găsit așa cum le spusese El. Și au pregătit Paștele. 17 Seara*Mat. 26:20., Isus a venit cu cei doisprezece. 18 Pe când ședeau la masă și mâncau, Isus a zis: „Adevărat vă spun că unul din voi, care mănâncă cu Mine, Mă va vinde."19 Ei au început să se întristeze și să-I zică unul după altul: „Nu cumva sunt eu?" 20 „Este unul din cei doisprezece", le-a răspuns El, „și anume cel ce întinge mâna cu Mine în blid.21 Fiul omului*Mat. 26:24.Luca 22:22., negreșit, Se duce după cum este scris despre El. Dar vai de omul acela prin care este vândut Fiul omului! Mai bine ar fi fost pentru el să nu se fi născut."

22 Pe când*Mat. 26:26.Luca 22:19.1 Cor. 11:23. mâncau, Isus a luat o pâine și, după ce a binecuvântat, a frânt-o și le-a dat, zicând: „Luați, mâncați, acesta este trupul Meu."23 Apoi a luat un pahar și, după ce a mulțumit lui Dumnezeu, li l-a dat și au băut toți din el. 24 Și le-a zis: „Acesta este sângele Meu, sângele legământului celui nou, care se varsă pentru mulți.25 Adevărat vă spun că, de acum încolo, nu voi mai bea din rodul viței până în ziua când îl voi bea nou în Împărăția lui Dumnezeu."

26 După ce*Mat. 26:30. au cântat cântările de laudă, au ieșit în Muntele Măslinilor. 27 Isus*Mat. 26:31. le-a zis: „În noaptea aceasta, toți veți avea un prilej de poticnire, pentru că este scris: ‘Voi bate*Zah. 13:7.Păstorul, și oile vor fi risipite.’28 Dar, după*Cap. 16:7.ce voi învia, voi merge înaintea voastră în Galileea."29 Petru*Mat. 26:33,34.Luca 22:34.Ioan 13:37,38. i-a zis: „Chiar dacă toți ar avea un prilej de poticnire, eu nu voi avea." 30 Și Isus i-a zis: „Adevărat îți spun că astăzi, chiar în noaptea aceasta, înainte ca să cânte cocoșul de două ori, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori."31 Dar Petru I-a zis cu și mai multă tărie: „Chiar dacă ar trebui să mor împreună cu Tine, tot nu mă voi lepăda de Tine." Și toți ceilalți au spus același lucru.

32 S-au*Mat. 26:36.Luca 22:39.Ioan 18:1. dus apoi într-un loc îngrădit, numit Ghetsimani. Și Isus a zis ucenicilor Săi: „Ședeți aici până Mă voi ruga."33 A luat cu El pe Petru, pe Iacov și pe Ioan și a început să Se înspăimânte și să Se mâhnească foarte tare. 34 El le-a zis: „Sufletul Meu este cuprins de o întristare*Ioan 12:27.de moarte; rămâneți aici și vegheați!"35 Apoi a mers puțin mai înainte, S-a aruncat la pământ și Se ruga ca, dacă este cu putință, să treacă de la El ceasul acela. 36 El zicea: „Ava*Rom. 8:15.Gal. 4:6.– adică ‘Tată’ –, Ție toate*Evr. 5:7.lucrurile Îți sunt cu putință; depărtează de la Mine paharul acesta! Totuși*Ioan 5:30;6:38.facă-se nu ce voiesc Eu, ci ce voiești Tu."37 Și a venit la ucenici, pe care i-a găsit dormind. Și a zis lui Petru: „Simone, tu dormi? Un ceas n-ai fost în stare să veghezi?38 Vegheați și rugați-vă, ca să nu cădeți în ispită; duhul*Rom. 7:23.Gal. 5:17.este plin de râvnă, dar trupul este neputincios."39 S-a dus iarăși și S-a rugat, zicând aceleași cuvinte. 40 Apoi S-a întors din nou și i-a găsit dormind, pentru că li se îngreuiaseră ochii de somn. Ei nu știau ce să-I răspundă. 41 În sfârșit, a venit a treia oară și le-a zis: „Dormiți de acum și odihniți-vă! Destul! A*Ioan 13:1.venit ceasul! Iată că Fiul omului este dat în mâinile păcătoșilor.42 Sculați-vă*Mat. 26:46.Ioan 18:1,2.; haidem să mergem; iată că se apropie vânzătorul!"

43 Și*Mat. 26:47.Luca 22:47.Ioan 18:3. îndată, pe când vorbea El încă, a venit Iuda, unul din cei doisprezece, și împreună cu el a venit o mulțime de oameni cu săbii și cu ciomege, trimiși de preoții cei mai de seamă, de cărturari și de bătrâni. 44 Vânzătorul le dăduse semnul acesta: „Pe care-L voi săruta, acela este; să-L prindeți și să-L duceți sub pază." 45 Când a venit Iuda, s-a apropiat îndată de Isus și I-a zis: „Învățătorule!" Și L-a sărutat mult. 46 Atunci, oamenii aceia au pus mâna pe Isus și L-au prins. 47 Unul din cei ce stăteau lângă El a scos sabia, a lovit pe robul marelui preot și i-a tăiat urechea. 48 Isus*Mat. 26:55.Luca 22:52. a luat cuvântul și le-a zis: „Ați ieșit ca după un tâlhar, cu săbii și cu ciomege, ca să Mă prindeți.49 În toate zilele am fost la voi și învățam pe oameni în Templu, și nu M-ați prins. Dar toate aceste lucruri s-au întâmplat ca să*Ps. 22:6.Is. 53:7.Luca 22:37;24:44.se împlinească Scripturile."50 Atunci*Ps. 88:8. Vers. 27., toți ucenicii L-au părăsit și au fugit. 51 După El mergea un tânăr care n-avea pe trup decât o învelitoare de pânză de in. Au pus mâna pe el, 52 dar el și-a lăsat învelitoarea și a fugit în pielea goală.

53 Pe*Mat. 26:57.Luca 22:54.Ioan 18:13. Isus L-au dus la marele preot, unde s-au adunat toți preoții cei mai de seamă, bătrânii și cărturarii. 54 Petru L-a urmat de departe până în curtea marelui preot, a șezut jos împreună cu aprozii și se încălzea la para focului. 55 Preoții*Mat. 26:59. cei mai de seamă și tot soborul căutau vreo mărturie împotriva lui Isus, ca să-L omoare, dar nu găseau niciuna. 56 Pentru că mulți făceau mărturisiri mincinoase împotriva Lui, dar mărturisirile lor nu se potriveau. 57 Unii s-au sculat și au făcut o mărturisire mincinoasă împotriva Lui și au zis: 58 „Noi L-am auzit zicând: ‘Eu*Cap. 15:29.Ioan 2:19. voi strica Templul acesta, făcut de mâini omenești, și în trei zile voi ridica un altul, care nu va fi făcut de mâini omenești.’" 59 Nici chiar în privința aceasta nu se potrivea mărturisirea lor. 60 Atunci*Mat. 26:62., marele preot s-a sculat în picioare în mijlocul adunării, a întrebat pe Isus și I-a zis: „Nu răspunzi nimic? Ce mărturisesc oamenii aceștia împotriva Ta?" 61 Isus*Is. 53:7. tăcea și nu răspundea nimic. Marele preot*Mat. 26:63. L-a întrebat iarăși și I-a zis: „Ești Tu Hristosul, Fiul Celui Binecuvântat?" 62 „Da, sunt", i-a răspuns Isus. „Și*Mat. 24:30;26:64.Luca 22:69.veți vedea pe Fiul omului șezând la dreapta puterii și venind pe norii cerului."63 Atunci, marele preot și-a rupt hainele și a zis: „Ce nevoie mai avem de martori? 64 Ați auzit hula. Ce vi se pare?" Toți L-au osândit să fie pedepsit cu moartea. 65 Și unii au început să-L scuipe, să-I acopere fața, să-L bată cu pumnii și să-I zică: „Prorocește!" Iar aprozii L-au primit în palme.

66 Pe*Mat. 26:58,69.Luca 22:55.Ioan 18:16. când stătea Petru jos în curte, a venit una din slujnicele marelui preot. 67 Când a văzut pe Petru încălzindu-se, s-a uitat țintă la el și i-a zis: „Și tu erai cu Isus din Nazaret!" 68 El s-a lepădat și a zis: „Nu știu, nici nu înțeleg ce vrei să zici." Apoi a ieșit în pridvor. Și a cântat cocoșul. 69 Când*Mat. 26:71.Luca 22:58.Ioan 18:25. l-a văzut slujnica, a început iarăși să spună celor ce stăteau acolo: „Acesta este unul dintre oamenii aceia." 70 Și el s-a lepădat din nou. După*Mat. 26:73.Luca 22:59.Ioan 18:26. puțină vreme, cei ce stăteau acolo au zis iarăși lui Petru: „Nu mai încape îndoială că ești unul din oamenii aceia, căci*Fapte 2:7. ești galileean și graiul tău seamănă cu al lor." 71 Atunci, el a început să se blesteme și să se jure: „Nu cunosc pe Omul acesta despre care vorbiți!" 72 Îndată*Mat. 26:75. a cântat cocoșul a doua oară. Și Petru și-a adus aminte de vorba pe care i-o spusese Isus: „Înainte ca să cânte cocoșul de două ori, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori." Și, gândindu-se la acest lucru, a început să plângă.
