1 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel; 3 and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: A great eagle with great wings and long pinions, full of feathers, which had divers colors, came unto Lebanon, and took the top of the cedar: 4 he cropped off the topmost of the young twigs thereof, and carried it unto a land of traffic; he set it in a city of merchants. 5 He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful soil; he placed it beside many waters; he set it as a willow-tree. 6 And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.

7 There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend its roots toward him, and shot forth its branches toward him, from the beds of its plantation, that he might water it. 8 It was planted in a good soil by many waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine. 9 Say thou, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it may wither; that all its fresh springing leaves may wither? and not by a strong arm or much people can it be raised from the roots thereof. 10 Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the beds where it grew.

11 Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 12 Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and brought them to him to Babylon. 13 And he took of the seed royal, and made a covenant with him; he also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land; 14 that the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping his covenant it might stand. 15 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? shall he break the covenant, and yet escape? 16 As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die. 17 Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company help him in the war, when they cast up mounds and build forts, to cut off many persons. 18 For he hath despised the oath by breaking the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, and yet hath done all these things; he shall not escape. 19 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, I will even bring it upon his own head. 20 And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me. 21 And all his fugitives in all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward every wind: and ye shall know that I, Jehovah, have spoken it.

22 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will also take of the lofty top of the cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it upon a high and lofty mountain: 23 in the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it; and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all birds of every wing; in the shade of the branches thereof shall they dwell. 24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I, Jehovah, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I, Jehovah, have spoken and have done it.

1 Cuvântul Domnului mi-a vorbit astfel: 2 „Fiul omului, spune o vorbă cu tâlc, spune o pildă casei lui Israel 3 și zi: ‘Așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeu: «Un*Vers. 12. vultur mare, cu aripi lungi, cu aripile întinse, acoperit cu pene pestrițe, a venit în Liban și a luat*2 Împ. 24:12. vârful unui cedru. 4 A rupt ramura cea mai înaltă a lui, a dus-o într-o țară de negoț și a pus-o într-o cetate de negustori; 5 a luat și din sămânța țării și a pus-o într-un pământ roditor*Deut. 8:7,8,9.; a pus-o lângă o apă mare și a sădit-o ca pe*Is. 44:4. o salcie. 6 Lăstarul acesta a crescut și s-a făcut un butuc de viță întins, dar nu prea*Vers. 14. înalt; vițele îi erau îndreptate spre vultur și rădăcinile erau sub el. Astfel s-a făcut un butuc de viță, a dat lăstari și a făcut mlădițe. 7 Mai era însă un alt vultur, mare, cu aripi lungi și cu pene multe. Și iată că, din pământul unde era sădită, vița*Vers. 15. aceasta și-a întins rădăcinile cu lăcomie spre el și și-a îndreptat ramurile spre el, ca s-o ude mai mult decât pe stratul în care era sădită. 8 Vița era sădită într-un pământ bun, lângă o apă mare, așa ca să facă mlădițe, să dea rod și să se facă o viță minunată.»’ 9 Spune", zice Domnul Dumnezeu, „îi va merge bine ei oare? Nu-i*2 Împ. 25:7. va smulge vulturul dintâi rădăcinile și-i va tăia rodul și i se vor usca toate frunzele odrăslite? Se va usca și nu va trebui niciun braț puternic, nici multă lume, ca s-o scoată din rădăcinile ei. 10 Iată că este sădită: îi va merge bine? Dacă o va atinge vântul de răsărit, nu se va usca*Cap. 19:12.Osea 13:15. ea oare? Da, se va usca în straturile unde a odrăslit." 11 Cuvântul Domnului mi-a vorbit astfel: 12 „Spune casei acesteia*Cap. 2:5;12:9. răzvrătite: ‘Nu știți ce înseamnă aceasta?’ Și spune: ‘Iată, împăratul*Vers. 3.2 Împ. 24:11-16. Babilonului a venit la Ierusalim, a luat pe împăratul și pe căpeteniile lui și i-a dus cu el în Babilon. 13 A luat un*2 Împ. 24:17. vlăstar de neam împărătesc, a făcut legământ cu el și l-a pus*2 Cron. 36:13. să jure, dar pe mai-marii țării i-a luat cu el, 14 ca împărăția să rămână*Vers. 6. Cap. 29:14. smerită, să nu se mai poată ridica, ci împăratul să-și țină legământul, rămânându-i credincios. 15 Dar el s-a răsculat*2 Împ. 24:20.2 Cron. 36:13. împotriva lui și a trimis soli în Egipt, ca să-i dea*Deut. 17:16.Is. 31:1,3;36:6,9. cai și un mare număr de oameni. Cel ce a făcut asemenea lucruri va izbuti el oare, va scăpa*Vers. 9. el oare? Cum să mai scape dacă a rupt legământul? 16 Pe viața Mea’, zice Domnul Dumnezeu, ‘că, în țara*Ier. 32:5;34:3;52:11. Cap. 12:13. împăratului care l-a pus să domnească, față de care și-a călcat jurământul și al cărui legământ l-a rupt, lângă el, în mijlocul Babilonului va muri! 17 Așa că nici Faraon*Ier. 37:7. nu va veni cu o oaste mare și popor mult să-l ajute în război când se vor ridica întărituri*Ier. 52:4. Cap. 4:2. și se vor face șanțuri pentru nimicirea multor suflete. 18 El a nesocotit jurământul până într-atât, că a rupt legământul, ba încă și-a dat mâna*1 Cron. 29:24.Plâng. 5:6. și a făcut toate aceste lucruri; nu va scăpa!’" 19 De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeu: „Pe viața Mea că, întrucât a nesocotit jurământul făcut în Numele Meu și a rupt legământul Meu, voi face să se întoarcă asupra capului lui lucrul acesta. 20 Îmi voi*Cap. 12:13;32:3. întinde mreaja peste el și va fi prins în lațul Meu. Îl voi duce în Babilon și acolo îl voi*Cap. 20:36. judeca pentru abaterea săvârșită de el față de Mine. 21 Dar toți fugarii*Cap. 12:14. din toate oștile lui vor cădea loviți de sabie, și cei ce vor mai rămâne vor fi risipiți în toate vânturile. Și veți ști că Eu, Domnul, am spus aceste lucruri." 22 Așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeu: „Eu Însumi voi lua o rămurea*Is. 11:1.Ier. 23:5.Zah. 3:8. din vârful unui cedru mare și o voi pune la pământ. Voi rupe din vârful ramurilor lui o mlădiță fragedă*Is. 53:2. și o voi sădi*Ps. 2:6. pe un munte înalt și ridicat. 23 Și anume o voi sădi pe un munte*Is. 2:2,3. Cap. 20:40.Mica 4:1. înalt al lui Israel; ea va da lăstari, va aduce rod și se va face un cedru măreț. Păsări*Cap. 31:6.Dan. 4:12. de tot felul se vor odihni sub umbra ramurilor lui. 24 Și toți copacii de pe câmp vor ști că Eu, Domnul, am*Luca 1:52. coborât copacul care se înălța și am înălțat copacul care era plecat; că Eu am uscat copacul cel verde și am înverzit copacul cel uscat.
