1 I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

2 He hath led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light.

3 Surely against me he turneth his hand again and again all the day.

4 My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.

5 He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.

6 He hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead.

7 He hath walled me about, that I cannot go forth; he hath made my chain heavy.

8 Yea, when I cry, and call for help, he shutteth out my prayer.

9 He hath walled up my ways with hewn stone; he hath made my paths crooked.

10 He is unto me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.

11 He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces; he hath made me desolate.

12 He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

13 He hath caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins.

14 I am become a derision to all my people, and their song all the day.

15 He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath sated me with wormwood.

16 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones; he hath covered me with ashes.

17 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace; I forgat prosperity.

18 And I said, My strength is perished, and mine expectation from Jehovah.

19 Remember mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me.

21 This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope.

22 It is of Jehovah’s lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.

24 Jehovah is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

25 Jehovah is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

26 It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of Jehovah.

27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

28 Let him sit alone and keep silence, because he hath laid it upon him.

29 Let him put his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope.

30 Let him give his cheek to him that smiteth him; let him be filled full with reproach.

31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever.

32 For though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

33 For he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.

34 To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,

35 To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High,

36 To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.

37 Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?

38 Out of the mouth of the Most High cometh there not evil and good?

39 Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.

41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

42 We have transgressed and have rebelled; thou hast not pardoned.

43 Thou hast covered with anger and pursued us; thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.

44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through.

45 Thou hast made us an offscouring and refuse in the midst of the peoples.

46 All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.

47 Fear and the pit are come upon us, devastation and destruction.

48 Mine eye runneth down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

49 Mine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,

50 Till Jehovah look down, and behold from heaven.

51 Mine eye affecteth my soul, because of all the daughters of my city.

52 They have chased me sore like a bird, they that are mine enemies without cause.

53 They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and have cast a stone upon me.

54 Waters flowed over my head; I said, I am cut off.

55 I called upon thy name, O Jehovah, out of the lowest dungeon.

56 Thou heardest my voice; hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

57 Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee; thou saidst, Fear not.

58 O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

59 O Jehovah, thou hast seen my wrong; judge thou my cause.

60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their devices against me.

61 Thou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, and all their devices against me,

62 The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.

63 Behold thou their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their song.

64 Thou wilt render unto them a recompense, O Jehovah, according to the work of their hands.

65 Thou wilt give them hardness of heart, thy curse unto them.

66 Thou wilt pursue them in anger, and destroy them from under the heavens of Jehovah.

2 El m-a dus, m-a mânat în întuneric, și nu în lumină.

3 Numai împotriva mea Își întinde și Își întoarce mâna toată ziua.

4 Mi-a prăpădit*Iov 16:8. carnea și pielea și mi-a zdrobit*Ps. 51:8.Is. 38:13.Ier. 50:17. oasele.

5 A făcut zid împrejurul meu și m-a înconjurat cu otravă și durere.

6 Mă așază*Ps. 88:5,6;143:3. în întuneric, ca pe cei morți pentru totdeauna.

7 M-a înconjurat*Iov 3:23;19:8.Osea 2:6. cu un zid ca să nu ies; m-a pus în lanțuri grele.

8 Să tot strig*Iov 30:20.Ps. 22:2. și să tot cer ajutor, căci El tot nu-mi primește rugăciunea.

9 Mi-a astupat calea cu pietre cioplite și mi-a strâmbat cărările.

10 Mă pândește*Iov 10:16.Is. 38:13.Osea 5:14;13:7,8. ca un urs și ca un leu într-un loc ascuns.

11 Mi-a abătut căile și apoi s-a*Osea 6:1. aruncat pe mine și m-a pustiit.

12 Și-a încordat arcul și m-a pus*Iov 7:20;16:12.Ps. 38:2. țintă săgeții Lui.

13 În rărunchi mi-a înfipt săgețile*Iov 6:4. din tolba Lui.

14 Am ajuns de râsul*Ier. 20:7. poporului meu și toată ziua sunt pus în cântece*Iov 30:9.Ps. 69:12. Vers. 63. de batjocură de ei.

15 M-a săturat*Ier. 9:15. de amărăciune, m-a îmbătat cu pelin.

16 Mi-a sfărâmat dinții cu pietre*Prov. 20:17., m-a acoperit cu cenușă.

17 Mi-ai luat pacea și nu mai cunosc fericirea.

18 Și am*Ps. 31:22. zis: „S-a dus puterea mea de viață și nu mai am nicio nădejde în Domnul."

19 Gândește-Te la necazul și suferința mea, la pelin*Ier. 9:15. și la otravă!

20 Când își aduce aminte sufletul meu de ele, este mâhnit în mine.

21 Iată ce mai gândesc în inima mea și iată ce mă face să mai trag nădejde:

22 Bunătățile*Mal. 3:6. Domnului nu s-au sfârșit, îndurările Lui nu sunt la capăt,

23 ci se înnoiesc în fiecare*Is. 33:2. dimineață. Și credincioșia Ta este atât de mare!

24 „Domnul este partea mea*Ps. 16:5;73:26;119:57.Ier. 10:16. de moștenire", zice sufletul meu, „de aceea nădăjduiesc în El."

25 Domnul este bun cu cine nădăjduiește*Ps. 130:6.Is. 30:18.Mica 7:7. în El, cu sufletul care-L caută.

26 Bine este să aștepți*Ps. 37:7. în tăcere ajutorul Domnului.

27 Este bine*Ps. 94:12;119:71. pentru om să poarte un jug în tinerețea lui.

28 Să stea*Ier. 15:17. Cap. 2:10. singur și să tacă, pentru că Domnul i l-a pus pe grumaz;

29 să-și umple gura*Iov 42:6. cu țărână și să nu-și piardă nădejdea;

30 să dea*Is. 50:6.Mat. 5:39. obrazul celui ce-l lovește și să se sature de ocări.

31 Căci*Ps. 94:14. Domnul nu leapădă pentru totdeauna.

32 Ci, când mâhnește pe cineva, Se îndură iarăși de el după îndurarea Lui cea mare,

33 căci El nu necăjește*Ezec. 33:11.Evr. 12:13. cu plăcere, nici nu mâhnește bucuros pe copiii oamenilor.

34 Când se calcă în picioare toți prinșii de război ai unei țări,

35 când se calcă dreptatea omenească în fața Celui Preaînalt,

36 când este nedreptățit un om în pricina lui, nu vede*Hab. 1:13. Domnul?

37 Cine a spus*Ps. 33:9. și s-a întâmplat ceva fără porunca Domnului?

38 Nu ies din gura Celui Preaînalt răul*Iov 2:10.Is. 45:7.Amos 3:6. și binele?

39 De ce*Prov. 19:3. să se plângă omul cât trăiește? Fiecare*Mica 7:9. să se plângă mai bine de păcatele lui!

40 Să luăm seama la umbletele noastre, să le cercetăm și să ne întoarcem la Domnul.

41 Să ne înălțăm*Ps. 86:4. și inimile cu mâinile spre Dumnezeu din cer, zicând:

42 „Am păcătuit*Dan. 9:5., am fost îndărătnici, și nu ne-ai iertat!"

43 În mânia Ta, Te-ai ascuns și ne-ai urmărit, ai ucis*Cap. 2:2,17,21. fără milă.

44 Te-ai învăluit într-un nor, ca*Vers. 8. să nu străbată la Tine rugăciunea noastră.

45 Ne-ai făcut de batjocură*1 Cor. 4:13. și de ocară printre popoare.

46 Toți vrăjmașii*Cap. 2:16. noștri deschid gura împotriva noastră.

47 De groază*Is. 24:17.Ier. 48:43. și de groapă am avut parte, de prăpăd*Is. 51:19. și pustiire.

48 Șuvoaie*Ier. 4:19;9:1;14:17. Cap. 2:11. de apă îmi curg din ochi din pricina prăpădului fiicei poporului meu.

49 Mi se topește ochiul*Ps. 77:2. Cap. 1:16. în lacrimi necurmat și fără răgaz,

50 până ce Domnul va privi din cer*Is. 63:15. și va vedea.

51 Mă doare ochiul de plâns pentru toate fiicele cetății mele.

52 Cei ce mă urăsc fără temei*Ps. 35:7,19;69:4;109:3;119:161. m-au gonit ca pe o pasăre.

53 Voiau să-mi nimicească viața într-o groapă*Ier. 37:16;38:6,9,10. și au aruncat*Dan. 6:17. cu pietre în mine.

54 Mi-au năvălit*Ps. 69:2;124:4,5. apele peste cap și*Ps. 31:22.Is. 38:10,11. Vers. 18. ziceam: „Sunt pierdut!"

55 Dar am chemat*Ps. 130:1.Iona 2:2. Numele Tău, Doamne, din fundul gropii.

56 Tu mi-ai auzit*Ps. 3:4;6:8;18:6;66:19;116:1. glasul: „Nu-Ți astupa urechea la suspinele și strigătele mele!"

57 În ziua când Te-am chemat, Te-ai apropiat*Iac. 4:8. și ai zis: „Nu te teme!"

58 Doamne, Tu ai apărat*Ps. 35:1.Ier. 51:36.Ps. 71:23. pricina sufletului meu, mi-ai răscumpărat viața!

59 Doamne, ai văzut apăsarea mea: fă-mi*Ps. 9:4;35:23. dreptate!

60 Ai văzut toate răzbunările lor, toate uneltirile*Ier. 11:19. lor împotriva mea.

61 Doamne, le-ai auzit ocările, toate uneltirile împotriva mea,

62 cuvântările potrivnicilor mei și planurile pe care le urzeau în fiecare zi împotriva mea.

63 Uită-Te când stau*Ps. 139:2. ei jos sau când se scoală! Eu*Vers. 14. sunt cântecul lor de batjocură.

64 Răsplătește-le*Ps. 28:4.Ier. 11:20.2 Tim. 4:14., Doamne, după faptele mâinilor lor!

65 Împietrește-le inima și aruncă blestemul Tău împotriva lor!

66 Urmărește-i, în mânia Ta, și șterge-i de sub*Deut. 25:19.Ier. 10:11. ceruri*Ps. 8:3., Doamne!
