1 How hath the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger!

He hath cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel,

And hath not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

2 The Lord hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not pitied:

He hath thrown down in his wrath the strongholds of the daughter of Judah;

He hath brought them down to the ground; he hath profaned the kingdom and the princes thereof.

3 He hath cut off in fierce anger all the horn of Israel;

He hath drawn back his right hand from before the enemy:

And he hath burned up Jacob like a flaming fire, which devoureth round about.

4 He hath bent his bow like an enemy, he hath stood with his right hand as an adversary,

And hath slain all that were pleasant to the eye:

In the tent of the daughter of Zion he hath poured out his wrath like fire.

5 The Lord is become as an enemy, he hath swallowed up Israel;

He hath swallowed up all her palaces, he hath destroyed his strongholds;

And he hath multiplied in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.

6 And he hath violently taken away his tabernacle, as if it were of a garden; he hath destroyed his place of assembly:

Jehovah hath caused solemn assembly and sabbath to be forgotten in Zion,

And hath despised in the indignation of his anger the king and the priest.

7 The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath abhorred his sanctuary;

He hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces:

They have made a noise in the house of Jehovah, as in the day of a solemn assembly.

8 Jehovah hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion;

He hath stretched out the line, he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying;

And he hath made the rampart and wall to lament; they languish together.

9 Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars:

Her king and her princes are among the nations where the law is not;

Yea, her prophets find no vision from Jehovah.

10 The elders of the daughter of Zion sit upon the ground, they keep silence;

They have cast up dust upon their heads; they have girded themselves with sackcloth:

The virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground.

11 Mine eyes do fail with tears, my heart is troubled;

My liver is poured upon the earth, because of the destruction of the daughter of my people,

Because the young children and the sucklings swoon in the streets of the city.

12 They say to their mothers, Where is grain and wine?

When they swoon as the wounded in the streets of the city,

When their soul is poured out into their mothers’ bosom.

13 What shall I testify unto thee? what shall I liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem?

What shall I compare to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion?

For thy breach is great like the sea: who can heal thee?

14 Thy prophets have seen for thee false and foolish visions;

And they have not uncovered thine iniquity, to bring back thy captivity,

But have seen for thee false oracles and causes of banishment.

15 All that pass by clap their hands at thee;

They hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying,

Is this the city that men called The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?

16 All thine enemies have opened their mouth wide against thee;

They hiss and gnash the teeth; they say, We have swallowed her up;

Certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.

17 Jehovah hath done that which he purposed; he hath fulfilled his word that he commanded in the days of old;

He hath thrown down, and hath not pitied:

And he hath caused the enemy to rejoice over thee; he hath exalted the horn of thine adversaries.

18 Their heart cried unto the Lord:

O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night;

Give thyself no respite; let not the apple of thine eye cease.

19 Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches;

Pour out thy heart like water before the face of the Lord:

Lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger at the head of every street.

20 See, O Jehovah, and behold to whom thou hast done thus!

Shall the women eat their fruit, the children that are dandled in the hands?

Shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?

21 The youth and the old man lie on the ground in the streets;

My virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword:

Thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast slaughtered, and not pitied.

22 Thou hast called, as in the day of a solemn assembly, my terrors on every side;

And there was none that escaped or remained in the day of Jehovah’s anger:

Those that I have dandled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed.

și nu Și-a mai adus aminte de scaunul*1 Cron. 28:2.Ps. 99:5;132:7. picioarelor Lui în ziua mâniei Lui!

2 Domnul a nimicit fără milă*Vers. 17,21. Cap. 3:43. toate locuințele lui Iacov.

În urgia Lui, a dărâmat întăriturile fiicei lui Iuda

și le-a prăvălit la pământ;

a făcut de ocară*Ps. 89:39. împărăția și căpeteniile ei.

3 În mânia Lui aprinsă, a doborât toată puterea lui Israel;

Și-a tras înapoi*Ps. 74:11. de la el dreapta înaintea vrăjmașului

și a aprins*Ps. 89:46. în Iacov o văpaie de foc care mistuie toate de jur împrejur.

4 Și-a încordat*Is. 63:10. Vers. 5. arcul ca un vrăjmaș, Și-a ridicat dreapta ca un asupritor

și a prăpădit tot*Ezec. 24:25. ce era plăcut privirilor;

Și-a vărsat ca un foc urgia peste cortul fiicei Sionului.

5 Ca un vrăjmaș a ajuns*Vers. 4.Ier. 30:14. Domnul: a nimicit pe Israel,

i-a dărâmat*2 Împ. 25:9.Ier. 52:13. toate palatele, i-a prăbușit întăriturile

și a umplut pe fiica lui Iuda de jale și suspin.

6 I-a pustiit*Ps. 80:12;89:40.Is. 5:5. cortul sfânt ca*Is. 1:8. pe o grădină,

a nimicit locul adunării sale;

Domnul*Cap. 1:4.Ţef. 3:18. a făcut să se uite în Sion sărbătorile și Sabatul

și, în mânia Lui năprasnică, a lepădat pe împărat și pe preot.

7 Domnul Și-a disprețuit altarul, Și-a lepădat Locașul Său cel Sfânt.

A dat în mâinile vrăjmașului zidurile palatelor Sionului;

au răsunat*Ps. 74:4. strigătele în Casa Domnului ca într-o zi de sărbătoare.

8 Și-a pus de gând Domnul să dărâme zidurile fiicei Sionului;

a întins*2 Împ. 21:13.Is. 34:11. sfoara de măsurat și nu Și-a tras mâna până nu le-a nimicit.

A cufundat în jale întăritura și zidurile, care nu mai sunt, toate, decât niște dărâmături triste.

9 Porțile îi sunt cufundate în pământ; i-a nimicit și rupt*Ier. 51:30. zăvoarele.

Împăratul*Deut. 28:36.2 Împ. 24:15;25:7. Cap. 1:3;4:20. și căpeteniile sale sunt între neamuri. Lege*2 Cron. 15:3. nu mai au

și chiar prorocii*Ps. 74:9.Ezec. 7:26. nu mai primesc nicio vedenie de la Domnul.

10 Bătrânii fiicei Sionului șed*Iov 2:13.Is. 3:26. Cap. 3:28. pe pământ și tac;

și-au presărat*Iov 2:12. țărână pe cap, s-au încins*Is. 15:3.Ezec. 7:18;27:31. cu saci;

fecioarele Ierusalimului își pleacă la pământ capul.

11 Mi s-au stors ochii*Ps. 6:7. Cap. 3:48. de lacrimi, îmi fierb măruntaiele*Cap. 1:20.,

mi se varsă ficatul*Iov 16:13.Ps. 22:14. pe pământ din pricina prăpădului fiicei poporului meu,

din pricina copiilor*Vers. 19. Cap. 4:4. și pruncilor de țâță leșinați pe ulițele cetății.

12 Ei ziceau către mamele lor: „Unde este pâine și vin?"

și cădeau leșinați ca niște răniți pe ulițele cetății,

își dădeau sufletul la pieptul mamelor lor.

13 Cu ce să te îmbărbătez și cu ce să te asemăn, fiica Ierusalimului?

Cu cine*Cap. 1:12.Dan. 9:12. să te pun alături și cu ce să te mângâi, fecioară, fiica Sionului?

Căci rana ta este mare ca marea. Cine va putea să te vindece?

14 Prorocii tăi*Ier. 2:8;5:31;14:14;23:16;27:14;29:8,9.Ezec. 13:2. ți-au prorocit vedenii deșarte și amăgitoare,

nu ți-au dat pe față*Is. 58:1. nelegiuirea ca să abată astfel robia de la tine,

ci ți-au făcut prorocii mincinoase și înșelătoare.

15 Toți trecătorii*1 Împ. 9:8.Ier. 18:16.Naum 3:19. bat din palme*Ezec. 25:6. asupra ta,

șuieră și dau*2 Împ. 19:21.Ps. 44:14. din cap împotriva fiicei Ierusalimului și zic:

„Aceasta este cetatea despre care se zicea că este cea mai frumoasă*Ps. 48:2;50:2. și bucuria întregului pământ?"

16 Toți vrăjmașii tăi deschid*Iov 16:9,10.Ps. 22:13. Cap. 3:46. gura împotriva ta,

fluieră, scrâșnesc din dinți și zic: „Am*Ps. 56:2. înghițit-o!

Da, aceasta este ziua pe care o așteptam; am ajuns-o și o vedem*Ps. 35:21.!"

17 Domnul a înfăptuit ce*Lev. 26:16.Deut. 28:15. hotărâse,

a împlinit cuvântul pe care-l sorocise de multă vreme,

a nimicit*Vers. 2. fără milă;

a făcut din tine*Ps. 38:16.Ps. 89:42. bucuria vrăjmașului,

a înălțat tăria asupritorilor tăi!

18 Inima lor strigă către Domnul:

„Zid*Vers. 8. al fiicei Sionului, varsă*Ier. 14:17. Cap. 1:16. zi și noapte șiroaie de lacrimi!

Nu-ți da niciun răgaz și ochiul tău să nu aibă odihnă!

19 Scoală-te și*Ps. 119:147. gemi noaptea, când încep străjile!

Varsă-ți*Ps. 62:8. inima ca niște apă înaintea Domnului!

Ridică-ți mâinile spre El pentru viața copiilor tăi,

care*Vers. 11. mor de foame la toate*Is. 51:20. Cap. 4:1.Naum 3:10. colțurile ulițelor!"

20 „Uită-Te, Doamne, și privește! Cui i-ai făcut Tu așa?

Să mănânce*Lev. 26:29.Deut. 28:53.Ier. 19:9. Cap. 4:10.Ezec. 5:10. femeile rodul pântecelui lor, pruncii dezmierdați de mâinile lor?

Să fie măcelăriți*Vers. 13,16. preoții și prorocii în Locașul cel Sfânt al Domnului?

21 Copiii și bătrânii*2 Cron. 36:17. stau culcați pe pământ în ulițe;

fecioarele și tinerii mei au căzut uciși de sabie;

i-ai*Cap. 3:43. ucis în ziua mâniei Tale și i-ai înjunghiat fără milă.

22 Ai chemat groaza*Ps. 31:13.Ier. 6:25;46:5. din toate părțile peste mine, ca la o zi de sărbătoare.

În ziua mâniei Domnului, n-a scăpat unul și n-a rămas cu viață.

Pe*Osea 9:12,13. cei îngrijiți și crescuți de mine, mi i-a nimicit vrăjmașul!"
