1 And it came to pass when Jesus had finished commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and preach in their cities.

2 Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ, he sent by his disciples 3 and said unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and tell John the things which ye hear and see: 5 the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good tidings preached to them. 6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall find no occasion of stumbling in me.

7 And as these went their way, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken with the wind? 8 But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft raiment are in kings’ houses. 9 But wherefore went ye out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. 10 This is he, of whom it is written,

Behold, I send my messenger before thy face,

Who shall prepare thy way before thee.

11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not arisen a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force. 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 And if ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, that is to come. 15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, who call unto their fellows 17 and say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not mourn. 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon. 19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! And wisdom is justified by her works.

20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not. 21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you. 23 And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt go down unto Hades: for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in thee, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say unto you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

25 At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: 26 yea, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight. 27 All things have been delivered unto me of my Father: and no one knoweth the Son, save the Father; neither doth any know the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son willeth to reveal him. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

1 După ce a isprăvit de dat învățături la cei doisprezece ucenici ai Săi, Isus a plecat de acolo, ca să învețe pe oameni și să propovăduiască în cetățile lor.

2 Ioan*Luca 7:18. a auzit din*Cap. 14:3. temniță despre lucrările lui Hristos 3 și a trimis să-L întrebe prin ucenicii săi: „Tu ești Acela*Gen. 49:10.Num. 24:17.Dan. 9:24.Ioan 6:14. care are să vină sau să așteptăm pe altul?" 4 Drept răspuns, Isus le-a zis: „Duceți-vă de spuneți lui Ioan ce auziți și ce vedeți:5 Orbii*Is. 29:18;35:4-6;42:7.Ioan 2:23;3:2;5:36;10:25,38;14:11.își capătă vederea, șchiopii umblă, leproșii sunt curățiți, surzii aud, morții înviază, și săracilor*Ps. 22:26.Is. 61:1.Luca 4:18.Iac. 2:5.li se propovăduiește Evanghelia.6 Ferice de acela pentru care Eu nu voi fi*Is. 8:14,15. Cap. 13:57;24:10; 26:31.Rom. 9:32,33.1 Cor. 1:23;2:14.Gal. 5:11.1 Pet. 2:8.un prilej de poticnire."

7 Pe când*Luca 7:24. se duceau ei, Isus a început să vorbească noroadelor despre Ioan: „Ce ați ieșit să vedeți în pustie? O trestie*Efes. 4:14.clătinată de vânt?8 Dacă nu, atunci ce ați ieșit să vedeți? Un om îmbrăcat în haine moi? Iată că cei ce poartă haine moi sunt în casele împăraților.9 Atunci ce ați ieșit să vedeți? Un proroc? Da, vă spun, și*Cap. 14:5;21:26.Luca 1:76;7:26.mai mult decât un proroc;10 căci el este acela despre care s-a scris:

‘Iată*Mal. 3:1.Marcu 1:2.Luca 1:76;7:27., trimit înaintea Feței Tale pe solul Meu, care Îți va pregăti calea înaintea Ta.’

11 Adevărat vă spun că, dintre cei născuți din femei, nu s-a sculat niciunul mai mare decât Ioan Botezătorul. Totuși cel mai mic în Împărăția cerurilor este mai mare decât el.12 Din*Luca 16:16.zilele lui Ioan Botezătorul până acum, Împărăția cerurilor se ia cu năvală, și cei ce dau năvală pun mâna pe ea.13 Căci până la Ioan au prorocit toți*Mal. 4:6.prorocii și Legea.14 Și, dacă vreți să înțelegeți, el este Ilie*Mal. 4:5. Cap. 17:12.Luca 1:17., care trebuia să vină.15 Cine*Cap. 13:9.Luca 8:8.Apoc. 2:7,11,17,29;3:6,13,22.are urechi de auzit să audă.16 Cu*Luca 7:31.cine voi asemăna neamul acesta de oameni? Seamănă cu niște copilași care șed în piețe și strigă la tovarășii lor:17 ‘V-am cântat din fluier, și n-ați jucat; v-am cântat de jale, și nu v-ați tânguit.’18 Căci a venit Ioan, nici mâncând, nici bând, și ei zic: ‘Are drac!’19 A venit Fiul omului mâncând și bând, și ei zic: ‘Iată un om mâncăcios și băutor de vin, un prieten*Cap. 9:10.al vameșilor și al păcătoșilor!’ Totuși*Luca 7:35.Înțelepciunea a fost îndreptățită din lucrările ei."

20 Atunci*Luca 10:13., Isus a început să mustre cetățile în care fuseseră făcute cele mai multe din minunile Lui, pentru că nu se pocăiseră. 21 „Vai de tine, Horazine!", a zis El. „Vai de tine, Betsaido! Căci, dacă ar fi fost făcute în Tir și Sidon minunile care au fost făcute în voi, de mult s-ar fi pocăit cu*Iona 3:6-8.sac și cenușă.22 De aceea vă spun că, în ziua judecății, va*Cap. 10:15. Vers. 24.fi mai ușor pentru Tir și Sidon decât pentru voi.23 Și tu, Capernaume, vei fi înălțat*Is. 14:13.Plâng. 2:1.oare până la cer? Vei fi coborât până la Locuința morților; căci dacă ar fi fost făcute în Sodoma minunile care au fost făcute în tine, ea ar fi rămas în picioare până în ziua de astăzi.24 De aceea vă spun că, în ziua judecății, va fi mai ușor pentru*Cap. 10:15.ținutul Sodomei decât pentru tine."

25 În*Luca 10:21. vremea aceea, Isus a luat cuvântul și a zis: „Te laud, Tată, Doamne al cerului și al pământului, pentru că ai*Ps. 8:2.1 Cor. 1:19,27;2:8.2 Cor. 3:14.ascuns aceste lucruri de cei înțelepți și pricepuți și*Cap. 16:17.le-ai descoperit pruncilor.26 Da, Tată, Te laud, pentru că așa ai găsit Tu cu cale!27 Toate*Cap. 28:18.Luca 10:22.Ioan 3:35;13:3;17:2.1 Cor. 15:27.lucrurile Mi-au fost date în mâini de Tatăl Meu, și*Ioan 1:18;6:46;10:15.nimeni nu cunoaște deplin pe Fiul, afară de Tatăl; tot astfel nimeni nu cunoaște deplin pe Tatăl, afară de Fiul și acela căruia vrea Fiul să i-L descopere.28 Veniți la Mine, toți cei trudiți și împovărați, și Eu vă voi da odihnă.29 Luați jugul Meu asupra voastră și*Ioan 13:15.Filip. 2:5.1 Pet. 2:21.1 Ioan 2:6.învățați de la Mine, căci Eu sunt blând și smerit*Zah. 9:9.Filip. 2:7,8.cu inima; și*Ier. 6:16.veți găsi odihnă pentru sufletele voastre.30 Căci*1 Ioan 5:3.jugul Meu este bun și sarcina Mea este ușoară."
