1 And Jacob called unto his sons, and said: Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the latter days.

2 Assemble yourselves, and hear, ye sons of Jacob;

And hearken unto Israel your father.

3 Reuben, thou art my first-born, my might, and the beginning of my strength;

The pre-eminence of dignity, and the pre-eminence of power.

4 Boiling over as water, thou shalt not have the pre-eminence;

Because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed;

Then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch.

5 Simeon and Levi are brethren;

Weapons of violence are their swords.

6 O my soul, come not thou into their council;

Unto their assembly, my glory, be not thou united;

For in their anger they slew a man,

And in their self-will they hocked an ox.

7 Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce;

And their wrath, for it was cruel:

I will divide them in Jacob,

And scatter them in Israel.

8 Judah, thee shall thy brethren praise:

Thy hand shall be on the neck of thine enemies;

Thy father’s sons shall bow down before thee.

9 Judah is a lion’s whelp;

From the prey, my son, thou art gone up:

He stooped down, he couched as a lion,

And as a lioness; who shall rouse him up?

10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah,

Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet,

Until Shiloh come;

And unto him shall the obedience of the peoples be.

11 Binding his foal unto the vine,

And his ass’s colt unto the choice vine;

He hath washed his garments in wine,

And his vesture in the blood of grapes:

12 His eyes shall be red with wine,

And his teeth white with milk.

13 Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea;

And he shall be for a haven of ships;

And his border shall be upon Sidon.

14 Issachar is a strong ass,

Couching down between the sheepfolds:

15 And he saw a resting-place that it was good,

And the land that it was pleasant;

And he bowed his shoulder to bear,

And became a servant under taskwork.

16 Dan shall judge his people,

As one of the tribes of Israel.

17 Dan shall be a serpent in the way,

An adder in the path,

That biteth the horse’s heels,

So that his rider falleth backward.

18 I have waited for thy salvation, O Jehovah.

19 Gad, a troop shall press upon him;

But he shall press upon their heel.

20 Out of Asher his bread shall be fat,

And he shall yield royal dainties.

21 Naphtali is a hind let loose:

He giveth goodly words.

22 Joseph is a fruitful bough,

A fruitful bough by a fountain;

His branches run over the wall.

23 The archers have sorely grieved him,

And shot at him, and persecuted him:

24 But his bow abode in strength,

And the arms of his hands were made strong,

By the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob

(From thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel),

25 Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee,

And by the Almighty, who shall bless thee,

With blessings of heaven above,

Blessings of the deep that coucheth beneath,

Blessings of the breasts, and of the womb.

26 The blessings of thy father

Have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors

Unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills:

They shall be on the head of Joseph,

And on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.

27 Benjamin is a wolf that raveneth:

In the morning he shall devour the prey,

And at even he shall divide the spoil.

28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them. 29 And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people: bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, 30 in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a burying-place. 31 There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah— 32 the field and the cave that is therein, which was purchased from the children of Heth. 33 And when Jacob made an end of charging his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people.

Puterea mea și pârga*Deut. 21:17.Ps. 78:51. tăriei mele,

Întâiul în vrednicie și întâiul în putere,

4 Năvalnic ca apele – tu nu vei mai avea întâietatea*1 Cron. 5:1.!

Căci te-ai suit*Cap. 35:22.Deut. 27:20.1 Cron. 5:1. în patul tatălui tău,

Mi-ai spurcat patul suindu-te în el.

5 Simeon*Cap. 29:33,34. și Levi sunt frați*Prov. 18:9.;

Săbiile lor sunt niște unelte*Cap. 34:25. de silnicie.

6 Nu vreau*Prov. 1:15,16. să intre sufletul meu la sfaturile lor,

Nu vreau să se unească duhul*Ps. 26:9.Efes. 5:11. meu cu adunarea*Ps. 16:9;30:12;57:8. lor!

Căci, în mânia*Cap. 34:26. lor, au ucis oameni

Și, în răutatea lor, au tăiat vinele taurilor.

7 Blestemată să fie mânia lor, pentru că a fost prea turbată,

Și furia lor, căci a fost prea sălbatică!

Îi voi împărți*Ios. 19:1;21:5-7.1 Cron. 4:24,39. în Iacov

Și-i voi risipi în Israel.

8 Iudo*Cap. 29:35.Deut. 33:7., tu vei primi laudele fraților tăi.

Mâna*Ps. 18:40. ta va apuca de ceafă pe vrăjmașii tăi.

Fiii tatălui tău se vor închina*Cap. 27:29.1 Cron. 5:2. până la pământ înaintea ta.

9 Iuda este un pui*Osea 5:14.Apoc. 5:5. de leu.

Tu te-ai întors de la măcel, fiule!

Iuda își pleacă*Num. 23:24;24:9. genunchii, se culcă întocmai ca un leu,

Ca o leoaică: cine-l va scula?

11 El*2 Împ. 18:32. își leagă măgarul de viță

Și de cel mai bun butuc de viță mânzul măgăriței lui;

Își spală haina în vin

Și mantaua în sângele strugurilor.

12 Are ochii*Prov. 23:29. roșii de vin

Și dinții albi de lapte.

13 Zabulon*Deut. 33:18,19.Ios. 19:10,11. va locui pe țărmul mărilor,

Lângă limanul corăbiilor,

Și hotarul lui se va întinde înspre Sidon.

14 Isahar este un măgar osos,

Care se culcă în grajduri.

15 Vede că locul unde se odihnește este plăcut

Și că ținutul lui este măreț;

Își pleacă umărul*1 Sam. 10:9. sub povară

Și se supune birului.

16 Dan*Deut. 33:22.Jud. 18:1,2. va judeca pe poporul său,

Ca una din semințiile lui Israel.

17 Dan va fi*Jud. 18:28. un șarpe pe drum,

O năpârcă pe cărare,

Mușcând călcâiele calului,

Făcând să cadă călărețul pe spate.

18 În ajutorul*Ps. 25:5;119:166,174.Is. 25:9. Tău nădăjduiesc, Doamne!

19 Peste Gad*Deut. 33:20.1 Cron. 5:18. vor da iureș cete înarmate,

Dar și el va da iureș peste ele și le va urmări.

20 Așer*Deut. 33:24.Ios. 19:24. dă o hrană minunată;

El va da bucate alese împăraților.

21 Neftali*Deut. 33:23. este o cerboaică slobodă,

Rostește cuvinte frumoase.

22 Iosif este vlăstarul unui pom roditor,

Vlăstarul unui pom roditor sădit lângă un izvor;

Ramurile lui se înalță deasupra zidului.

23 Arcașii l-au ațâțat*Cap. 37:4,24,28;39:20;42:21.Ps. 118:13., au aruncat săgeți

Și l-au urmărit cu ura lor.

24 Dar arcul*Iov 29:20.Ps. 37:15. lui a rămas tare

Și mâinile lui au fost întărite

De mâinile Puternicului*Ps. 132:2,5. lui Iacov:

Și a ajuns astfel*Cap. 45:11;47:12;50:21. păstorul*Ps. 80:1., stânca*Is. 28:16. lui Israel.

25 Aceasta este lucrarea*Cap. 28:13,21;35:3;43:23. Dumnezeului tatălui tău, care te va ajuta;

Aceasta este lucrarea*Cap. 17:1;35:11. Celui Atotputernic, care*Deut. 33:13. te va binecuvânta

Cu binecuvântările cerurilor de sus,

Cu binecuvântările apelor de jos,

Cu binecuvântările țâțelor și ale pântecelui mamei.

26 Binecuvântările tatălui tău

Întrec binecuvântările părinților mei și se înalță

Până în creștetul dealurilor veșnice*Deut. 33:15.Hab. 3:6.:

Ele*Deut. 33:16. să vină peste capul lui Iosif,

Peste creștetul capului domnului fraților săi!

27 Beniamin*Jud. 20:21,25.Ezec. 22:25,27. este un lup care sfâșie;

Dimineața mănâncă prada,

Iar seara*Num. 23:24.Est. 8:11.Ezec. 39:10.Zah. 14:1,7. împarte prada răpită."

28 Aceștia sunt toți cei ce alcătuiesc cele douăsprezece seminții ale lui Israel. Și acestea sunt lucrurile pe care li le-a spus tatăl lor când i-a binecuvântat. I-a binecuvântat pe fiecare cu o binecuvântare deosebită.

29 Apoi le-a dat porunca următoare: „Eu am să fiu adăugat*Cap. 15:15;25:8. la poporul meu, deci să mă îngropați*Cap. 47:30.2 Sam. 19:37. împreună cu părinții mei, în peștera*Cap. 50:13. care este în ogorul hetitului Efron, 30 în peștera din ogorul Macpela, care este față în față cu Mamre, în țara Canaan. Acesta este ogorul pe care*Cap. 23:16. l-a cumpărat Avraam de la hetitul Efron ca moșie de înmormântare. 31 Acolo*Cap. 23:19;25:9. au îngropat pe Avraam și pe Sara, nevasta lui; acolo au îngropat*Cap. 35:29. pe Isaac și pe Rebeca, nevasta lui, și acolo am îngropat eu pe Lea. 32 Ogorul și peștera care se află acolo au fost cumpărate de la fiii lui Het." 33 Când a isprăvit Iacov de dat porunci fiilor săi, și-a tras picioarele în pat, și-a dat duhul și a fost adăugat*Vers. 29. la poporul său.
