1 In the year that Tartan came unto Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him, and he fought against Ashdod and took it; 2 at that time Jehovah spake by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go, and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and put thy shoe from off thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot. 3 And Jehovah said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and a wonder concerning Egypt and concerning Ethiopia; 4 so shall the king of Assyria lead away the captives of Egypt, and the exiles of Ethiopia, young and old, naked and barefoot, and with buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt. 5 And they shall be dismayed and confounded, because of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory. 6 And the inhabitant of this coast-land shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation, whither we fled for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and we, how shall we escape?

1 În anul când a venit Tartan*2 Împ. 18:17. la Asdod, trimis de Sargon, împăratul Asiriei, să bată Asdodul și l-a luat, 2 în vremea aceea, Domnul a vorbit lui Isaia, fiul lui Amoț și i-a zis: „Du-te, dezleagă-ți sacul de pe coapse*Zah. 13:4. și scoate-ți încălțămintea din picioare!" El a făcut așa, a umblat*1 Sam. 19:24.Mica 1:8,11. gol și desculț. 3 Și Domnul a zis: „După cum robul meu Isaia umblă gol și desculț trei ani de zile, ca*Cap. 8:18. semn și înștiințare pentru Egipt și pentru Etiopia, 4 tot așa și împăratul Asiriei va lua din Egipt și din Etiopia prinși de război și surghiuniți, tineri și bătrâni, goi și desculți și*2 Sam. 10:4. Cap. 3:17.Ier. 13:22,26.Mica 1:11. cu spinarea descoperită, spre rușinea Egiptului. 5 Atunci*2 Împ. 18:21. Cap. 30:3,5,7; 36:6. se vor îngrozi și se vor rușina cei ce își puseseră încrederea în Etiopia și se făleau cu Egiptul. 6 Și locuitorii de pe țărmul acesta vor zice în ziua aceea: ‘Iată ce a ajuns încrederea noastră pe care ne bizuiserăm ca să fim ajutați și să fim izbăviți de împăratul Asiriei! Cum vom scăpa acum?’"
