1 Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might quake at thy presence, 2 as when fire kindleth the brushwood, and the fire causeth the waters to boil; to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence! 3 When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains quaked at thy presence. 4 For from of old men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen a God besides thee, who worketh for him that waiteth for him. 5 Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou wast wroth, and we sinned: in them have we been of long time; and shall we be saved? 6 For we are all become as one that is unclean, and all our righteousnesses are as a polluted garment: and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. 7 And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee; for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us by means of our iniquities.

8 But now, O Jehovah, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. 9 Be not wroth very sore, O Jehovah, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, look, we beseech thee, we are all thy people. 10 Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. 11 Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned with fire; and all our pleasant places are laid waste. 12 Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O Jehovah? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?

Ți-ar cunoaște atunci vrăjmașii Numele și ar tremura neamurile înaintea Ta! 3 Când ai făcut*Exod 34:10.Jud. 5:4,5.Ps. 68:8.Hab. 3:3,6. minuni la care nu ne așteptam, Te-ai coborât, și munții s-au zguduit înaintea Ta, 4 cum niciodată*Ps. 31:19.1 Cor. 2:9. nu s-a pomenit, nici nu s-a auzit vorbindu-se și cum nici n-a văzut vreodată ochiul așa ceva: anume ca un alt dumnezeu afară de Tine să fi făcut asemenea lucruri pentru cei ce se încred în El. 5 Tu ieși înaintea celor ce împlinesc cu bucurie dreptatea*Fapte 10:35., celor ce umblă în căile Tale și își aduc aminte*Cap. 26:8. de Tine. Dar Te-ai mâniat pentru că am*Mal. 3:6. păcătuit. Vom suferi noi veșnic sau putem fi mântuiți? 6 Toți am ajuns ca niște necurați și toate faptele noastre bune*Filip. 3:9. sunt ca o haină mânjită. Toți suntem ofiliți*Ps. 90:5,6. ca o frunză și nelegiuirile noastre ne iau ca vântul. 7 Nu este nimeni*Osea 7:7. care să cheme Numele Tău sau care să se trezească și să se alipească de Tine, de aceea ne-ai ascuns Fața Ta și ne lași să pierim din pricina nelegiuirilor noastre. 8 Dar*Cap. 63:16., Doamne, Tu ești Tatăl nostru; noi suntem lutul și Tu, olarul*Cap. 29:16;45:9.Ier. 18:6.Rom. 9:20,21., care ne-ai întocmit: suntem cu toții lucrarea*Efes. 2:10. mâinilor Tale. 9 Nu Te mânia*Ps. 74:1,2;79:8. prea mult, Doamne, și nu-Ți aduce aminte în veci de nelegiuire! Privește dar spre noi, căci toți suntem*Ps. 79:13. poporul Tău! 10 Cetățile Tale cele sfinte sunt pustii; Sionul este pustiu, Ierusalimul*Ps. 79:1., o pustietate! 11 Casa noastră*2 Împ. 25:9.2 Cron. 36:19.Ps. 74:7. cea sfântă și slăvită, în care părinții noștri cântau laudele Tale, a ajuns pradă flăcărilor și tot ce aveam mai scump*Ezec. 24:21,25. a fost pustiit. 12 După toate acestea, Te vei opri*Cap. 42:14. Tu, Doamne? Vei tăcea*Ps. 83:1. Tu oare și ne vei întrista nespus de mult?
