1 Thus saith Jehovah unto me, Go, and buy thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water. 2 So I bought a girdle according to the word of Jehovah, and put it upon my loins. 3 And the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying, 4 Take the girdle that thou hast bought, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock. 5 So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as Jehovah commanded me. 6 And it came to pass after many days, that Jehovah said unto me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there. 7 Then I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

8 Then the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 9 Thus saith Jehovah, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem. 10 This evil people, that refuse to hear my words, that walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and are gone after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is profitable for nothing. 11 For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith Jehovah; that they may be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

12 Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word: Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? 13 Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness. 14 And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith Jehovah: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them.

15 Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud; for Jehovah hath spoken. 16 Give glory to Jehovah your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. 17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because Jehovah’s flock is taken captive.

18 Say thou unto the king and to the queen-mother, Humble yourselves, sit down; for your headtires are come down, even the crown of your glory. 19 The cities of the South are shut up, and there is none to open them: Judah is carried away captive, all of it; it is wholly carried away captive.

20 Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock? 21 What wilt thou say, when he shall set over thee as head those whom thou hast thyself taught to be friends to thee? shall not sorrows take hold of thee, as of a woman in travail? 22 And if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore are these things come upon me? for the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts uncovered, and thy heels suffer violence. 23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil. 24 Therefore will I scatter them, as the stubble that passeth away, by the wind of the wilderness. 25 This is thy lot, the portion measured unto thee from me, saith Jehovah; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood. 26 Therefore will I also uncover thy skirts upon thy face, and thy shame shall appear. 27 I have seen thine abominations, even thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, on the hills in the field. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! thou wilt not be made clean; how long shall it yet be?

1 Așa mi-a vorbit Domnul: „Du-te de cumpără-ți un brâu de in și pune-l în jurul coapselor tale, dar să nu-l înmoi în apă!" 2 Am cumpărat brâul, după porunca Domnului, și l-am pus în jurul coapselor mele. 3 Apoi Cuvântul Domnului mi-a vorbit a doua oară astfel: 4 „Ia brâul pe care l-ai cumpărat și pe care l-ai pus în jurul coapselor tale, scoală-te, du-te la Eufrat și ascunde-l acolo în crăpătura unei stânci!" 5 M-am dus și l-am ascuns la Eufrat, cum îmi poruncise Domnul. 6 După mai multe zile, Domnul mi-a zis: „Scoală-te, du-te la Eufrat și ia de acolo brâul pe care-ți poruncisem să-l ascunzi acolo!" 7 M-am dus la Eufrat, am săpat și am luat brâul din locul în care-l ascunsesem, dar iată că brâul era stricat și nu mai era bun de nimic. 8 Cuvântul Domnului mi-a vorbit astfel: 9 „Așa vorbește Domnul: ‘Așa voi*Lev. 26:19. nimici mândria lui Iuda și mândria peste măsură de mare a Ierusalimului. 10 Poporul acesta este un popor rău, nu vrea să asculte cuvintele Mele, urmează*Cap. 9:14;11:8;16:12. pornirile inimii lui și merge după alți dumnezei, ca să le slujească și să se închine înaintea lor, de aceea va ajunge întocmai ca brâul acesta, care nu mai este bun de nimic! 11 Căci, cum se lipește brâul de coapsele unui om, așa Îmi lipisem Eu toată casa lui Israel și toată casa lui Iuda’, zice Domnul, ‘ca să fie*Exod 19:5. poporul Meu, Numele*Cap. 33:9. Meu, lauda Mea și slava Mea, dar nu M-au ascultat.’ 12 De aceea spune-le cuvintele acestea: ‘Așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Toate vasele se vor umple cu vin!»’ Și ei îți vor zice: ‘Crezi că noi nu știm că toate vasele se vor umple cu vin?’ 13 Atunci spune-le: ‘Așa vorbește Domnul: «Iată, voi umple pe toți locuitorii țării acesteia, pe împărații care stau pe scaunul de domnie al lui David, pe preoți, pe proroci și pe toți locuitorii Ierusalimului, îi voi umple de*Is. 51:17,21;63:6. Cap. 25:27;51:7. beție. 14 Îi voi sfărâma*Ps. 2:9. pe unii de alții, pe părinți și pe fii laolaltă», zice Domnul. «Nu-i voi cruța, nu voi avea milă de ei, nu Mă voi îndura de ei, nimic nu Mă va împiedica să-i nimicesc.»’" 15 Ascultați și luați aminte! Nu fiți mândri, căci Domnul vorbește! 16 Dați slavă*Ios. 7:19. Domnului Dumnezeului vostru, până nu vine întunericul*Is. 5:30;8:22.Amos 8:9., până nu vi se lovesc picioarele de munții nopții! Veți aștepta lumina*Is. 59:9., dar El o va preface în umbra*Ps. 44:19. morții și o va preface în negură adâncă. 17 Iar dacă nu vreți să ascultați, voi plânge în ascuns pentru mândria voastră; mi se vor topi ochii în*Cap. 9:1;14:17.Plâng. 1:2,16;2:18. lacrimi, pentru că turma Domnului va fi dusă în robie. 18 Spune împăratului*2 Împ. 24:12. Cap. 22:26. și împărătesei: „Ședeți pe pământ! Căci v-a căzut de pe cap cununa împărătească ce vă slujea ca podoabă." 19 Cetățile de la miazăzi sunt închise, și nu-i cine să deschidă. Tot Iuda este dus în robie, da, în întregime este dus în robie. 20 Ridică-ți ochii și privește pe cei ce vin*Cap. 6:22. de la miazănoapte. Unde este turma care-ți fusese dată, turma de care erai așa de mândru? 21 Ce vei zice când va pune mai-mari peste tine pe străinii aceia pe care i-ai obișnuit să-ți fie prieteni de aproape? Nu te vor apuca durerile*Cap. 6:24., cum apucă pe o femeie la naștere? 22 Și, dacă vei zice în inima ta: „Pentru ce*Cap. 5:19;16:10. mi se întâmplă lucrul acesta?" – din pricina mulțimii nelegiuirilor tale, ți s-au ridicat poalele*Is. 3:17;47:2,3. Vers. 26.Ezec. 16:37-39.Naum 3:5. hainelor și ți se dezgolesc călcâiele cu sila. 23 Poate un etiopian să-și schimbe pielea sau un pardos să-și schimbe petele? Tot așa, ați putea voi să faceți binele, voi, care sunteți deprinși să faceți răul? 24 „De aceea, îi voi risipi ca pleava*Ps. 1:4.Osea 13:3. luată de vântul pustiei. 25 Iată-ți soarta*Iov 20:29.Ps. 11:6., partea pe care ți-o măsor", zice Domnul, „pentru că M-ai uitat și ți-ai pus încrederea în*Cap. 10:14. minciună. 26 De aceea îți voi ridica*Vers. 22. poalele și ți le voi da peste cap, ca să ți se vadă rușinea. 27 Am văzut preacurviile și nechezăturile*Cap. 5:8. tale, curviile nelegiuite pe dealuri*Is. 65:7. Cap. 2:20;3:2,6.Ezec. 6:13. și în ogoare, ți-am văzut urâciunile! Vai de tine, Ierusalime! Nu vrei să te curățești? Cât vei mai zăbovi?"
