1 Righteous art thou, O Jehovah, when I contend with thee; yet would I reason the cause with thee: wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they at ease that deal very treacherously? 2 Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root; they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their heart. 3 But thou, O Jehovah, knowest me; thou seest me, and triest my heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter. 4 How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of the whole country wither? for the wickedness of them that dwell therein, the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our latter end.

5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and though in a land of peace thou art secure, yet how wilt thou do in the pride of the Jordan? 6 For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; even they have cried aloud after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.

7 I have forsaken my house, I have cast off my heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies. 8 My heritage is become unto me as a lion in the forest: she hath uttered her voice against me; therefore I have hated her. 9 Is my heritage unto me as a speckled bird of prey? are the birds of prey against her round about? go ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, bring them to devour. 10 Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness. 11 They have made it a desolation; it mourneth unto me, being desolate; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart. 12 Destroyers are come upon all the bare heights in the wilderness; for the sword of Jehovah devoureth from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh hath peace. 13 They have sown wheat, and have reaped thorns; they have put themselves to pain, and profit nothing: and ye shall be ashamed of your fruits, because of the fierce anger of Jehovah.

14 Thus saith Jehovah against all mine evil neighbors, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit: Behold, I will pluck them up from off their land, and will pluck up the house of Judah from among them. 15 And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them up, I will return and have compassion on them; and I will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land. 16 And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, As Jehovah liveth; even as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built up in the midst of my people. 17 But if they will not hear, then will I pluck up that nation, plucking up and destroying it, saith Jehovah.

Pier vitele*Cap. 4:25;7:20;9:10.Osea 4:3. și păsările din pricina răutății*Ps. 107:34. locuitorilor. Căci ei zic: „El (Ieremia) n-are să ne vadă sfârșitul!" 5 „Dacă, alergând cu cei ce aleargă pe picioare, ei te obosesc, cum vei putea să te iei la întrecere cu niște cai? Și dacă nu te crezi la adăpost decât într-o țară liniștită, ce vei face pe malurile îngâmfate ale*Ios. 3:15.1 Cron. 12:15. Cap. 48:19; 50:44. Iordanului? 6 Căci chiar frații*Cap. 9:4;11:19,21. tăi și casa tatălui tău te vând, ei înșiși strigă în gura mare după tine. Nu-i crede*Prov. 26:25. când îți vor spune vorbe prietenoase.

7 Mi-am părăsit casa și Mi-am lăsat moștenirea, am dat pe iubita Mea în mâinile vrăjmașilor ei. 8 Moștenirea Mea a ajuns pentru Mine ca un leu în pădure, a mugit împotriva Mea, și de aceea o urăsc. 9 A ajuns oare moștenirea Mea pentru Mine o pasăre de pradă pestriță, în jurul căreia se strâng păsările de pradă? Duceți-vă*Is. 56:9. Cap. 7:33. și strângeți toate fiarele câmpului și aduceți-le ca s-o mănânce! 10 Un mare*Cap. 6:3. număr de păstori îmi pustiesc via*Is. 5:1,5., îmi calcă*Is. 63:18. ogorul în picioare; ogorul meu cel plăcut îl prefac într-un pustiu părăsit. 11 Îl pustiesc, și el stă*Vers. 4. trist și pustiit înaintea mea. Toată țara este pustiită, căci nimeni*Is. 42:25. nu ia seama la ea. 12 Peste toate înălțimile pustiei vin pustiitori, căci sabia Domnului mănâncă țara de la un capăt la altul, și nimeni nu-i lăsat în pace. 13 Au semănat*Lev. 26:16.Deut. 28:38.Mica 6:15.Hag. 1:6. grâu, și seceră spini, s-au ostenit fără folos. Să vă fie rușine de ce culegeți în urma mâniei aprinse a Domnului!" 14 „Așa vorbește Domnul despre toți vecinii Mei cei răi, care se ating*Zah. 2:8. de moștenirea pe care am dat-o poporului Meu Israel: ‘Iată, îi voi smulge*Deut. 30:3. Cap. 32:37. din țara lor și voi smulge casa lui Iuda din mijlocul lor. 15 Dar*Ezec. 28:25., după ce-i voi smulge, voi avea iarăși milă de ei și-i voi aduce înapoi*Amos 9:14. pe fiecare în moștenirea lui și pe fiecare în țara lui. 16 Și, dacă vor învăța căile poporului Meu, dacă vor jura*Cap. 4:2. pe Numele Meu zicând: «Viu este Domnul!» cum au învățat pe poporul Meu să jure pe Baal, atunci vor fi fericiți*Efes. 2:20,21.1 Pet. 2:5. în mijlocul poporului Meu. 17 Dar, dacă nu vor asculta*Is. 60:12. nimic, voi nimici cu desăvârșire pe un astfel de popor, îl voi nimici și îl voi pierde’", zice Domnul.
