1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

2 Should not the multitude of words be answered?

And should a man full of talk be justified?

3 Should thy boastings make men hold their peace?

And when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

4 For thou sayest, My doctrine is pure,

And I am clean in thine eyes.

5 But oh that God would speak,

And open his lips against thee,

6 And that he would show thee the secrets of wisdom!

For he is manifold in understanding.

Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

7 Canst thou by searching find out God?

Canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

8 It is high as heaven; what canst thou do?

Deeper than Sheol; what canst thou know?

9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth,

And broader than the sea.

10 If he pass through, and shut up,

And call unto judgment, then who can hinder him?

11 For he knoweth false men:

He seeth iniquity also, even though he consider it not.

12 But vain man is void of understanding,

Yea, man is born as a wild ass’s colt.

13 If thou set thy heart aright,

And stretch out thy hands toward him;

14 If iniquity be in thy hand, put it far away,

And let not unrighteousness dwell in thy tents.

15 Surely then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot;

Yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:

16 For thou shalt forget thy misery;

Thou shalt remember it as waters that are passed away,

17 And thy life shall be clearer than the noonday;

Though there be darkness, it shall be as the morning.

18 And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope;

Yea, thou shalt search about thee, and shalt take thy rest in safety.

19 Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid;

Yea, many shall make suit unto thee.

20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail,

And they shall have no way to flee;

And their hope shall be the giving up of the ghost.

2 „Să rămână această năvală de cuvinte fără răspuns

și să creadă limbutul că are dreptate?

3 Vor face vorbele tale deșarte pe oameni să tacă?

Și-ți vei bate joc de alții, fără să te facă cineva de rușine?

4 Tu zici*Cap. 6:10;10:7.: ‘Felul meu de a vedea este drept

și sunt curat în ochii Tăi.’

5 Ah, de ar vrea Dumnezeu să vorbească,

de Și-ar deschide buzele să-ți răspundă

6 și de ți-ar descoperi tainele înțelepciunii Lui,

ale înțelepciunii Lui nemărginite,

ai vedea atunci că nu-ți*Ezra 9:13. răsplătește totuși după fărădelegea ta!

7 Poți spune tu că poți pătrunde*Ecl. 3:11.Rom. 11:33. adâncimile lui Dumnezeu,

că poți ajunge la cunoștința desăvârșită a Celui Atotputernic?

8 Cât cerurile-i de înaltă: ce poți face?

Mai adâncă decât Locuința morților: ce poți ști?

9 Întinderea ei este mai lungă decât pământul

și mai lată decât marea.

10 Dacă*Cap. 9:12;12:14.Apoc. 3:7. apucă, dacă închide și cheamă El la judecată, cine-L poate opri?

11 Căci El*Ps. 10:11,14;35:22;94:11. cunoaște pe făcătorii de rele,

vede ușor pe vinovați.

12 Omul*Ps. 73:22;92:6.Ecl. 3:18.Rom. 1:22., dimpotrivă, are minte de nebun

și s-a născut ca mânzul unui măgar sălbatic!

13 Tu îndreaptă-ți*Cap. 5:8;22:21. inima*1 Sam. 7:3.Ps. 78:8. spre Dumnezeu,

întinde-ți*Ps. 88:9;143:6. mâinile spre El.

14 Depărtează-te de fărădelege

și nu lăsa nedreptatea*Ps. 101:3. să locuiască în cortul tău.

15 Și atunci*Gen. 4:5,6. Cap. 22:26.Ps. 119:6.1 Ioan 3:21., îți vei ridica fruntea fără teamă,

vei fi tare și fără frică;

16 îți vei uita*Is. 65:16. suferințele

și-ți vei aduce aminte de ele ca de niște ape care s-au scurs.

17 Zilele tale vor străluci mai tare*Ps. 37:6;112:4.Is. 58:8,10. decât soarele la amiază,

întunericul tău va fi ca lumina dimineții.

18 Vei fi plin de încredere și nădejdea nu-ți va fi zadarnică.

Te vei uita în jurul tău și vei vedea că te poți odihni*Lev. 26:5,6.Ps. 3:5;4:8.Prov. 3:24. liniștit.

19 Te vei culca și nimeni nu te va tulbura,

și mulți vor umbla după bunăvoința ta.

20 Dar ochii*Lev. 26:16.Deut. 28:65. celor răi se vor topi;

ei n-au loc de scăpare:

moartea, iată nădejdea*Cap. 8:14;18:14.Prov. 11:7. lor!"
