1 Call now; is there any that will answer thee?

And to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn?

2 For vexation killeth the foolish man,

And jealousy slayeth the silly one.

3 I have seen the foolish taking root:

But suddenly I cursed his habitation.

4 His children are far from safety,

And they are crushed in the gate,

Neither is there any to deliver them:

5 Whose harvest the hungry eateth up,

And taketh it even out of the thorns;

And the snare gapeth for their substance.

6 For affliction cometh not forth from the dust,

Neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

7 But man is born unto trouble,

As the sparks fly upward.

8 But as for me, I would seek unto God,

And unto God would I commit my cause;

9 Who doeth great things and unsearchable,

Marvellous things without number:

10 Who giveth rain upon the earth,

And sendeth waters upon the fields;

11 So that he setteth up on high those that are low,

And those that mourn are exalted to safety.

12 He frustrateth the devices of the crafty,

So that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

13 He taketh the wise in their own craftiness;

And the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

14 They meet with darkness in the day-time,

And grope at noonday as in the night.

15 But he saveth from the sword of their mouth,

Even the needy from the hand of the mighty.

16 So the poor hath hope,

And iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth:

Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.

18 For he maketh sore, and bindeth up;

He woundeth, and his hands make whole.

19 He will deliver thee in six troubles;

Yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

20 In famine he will redeem thee from death;

And in war from the power of the sword.

21 Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue;

Neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

22 At destruction and dearth thou shalt laugh;

Neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

23 For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field;

And the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

24 And thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace;

And thou shalt visit thy fold, and shalt miss nothing.

25 Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great,

And thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

26 Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age,

Like as a shock of grain cometh in in its season.

27 Lo this, we have searched it, so it is;

Hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

2 Nebunul piere ucis de mânia lui,

prostul moare ucis de aprinderea lui.

apoi, deodată, i-am blestemat locuința.

4 Fiii*Ps. 119:155;127:5. lui n-au noroc,

sunt călcați în picioare la poartă,

și nimeni*Ps. 109:12. nu-i scapă!

5 Secerișul lui este mâncat de cei flămânzi,

care vin să-l ia chiar și din spini,

și averile lui sunt înghițite de oameni*Cap. 18:9. însetați.

6 Nenorocirea nu răsare din țărână,

și suferința nu încolțește din pământ.

7 Omul se naște*Gen. 3:17-19.1 Cor. 10:13. ca să sufere,

după cum scânteia se naște ca să zboare.

8 Eu aș alerga la Dumnezeu,

lui Dumnezeu I-aș spune necazul meu.

9 El face lucruri*Cap. 9:10;37:5.Ps. 40:5;72:18;145:3.Rom. 11:33. mari și nepătrunse,

minuni fără număr.

10 El varsă ploaia*Cap. 28:26.Ps. 65:9,10;147:8.Ier. 5:24;10:13;51:16.Fapte 14:17. pe pământ

și trimite apă pe câmpii.

11 El înalță*1 Sam. 2:7.Ps. 113:7. pe cei smeriți

și izbăvește pe cei necăjiți.

12 El nimicește*Neem. 4:15.Ps. 33:10.Is. 8:10. planurile oamenilor vicleni,

și mâinile lor nu pot să le împlinească.

13 El prinde*Ps. 9:15.1 Cor. 3:19. pe cei înțelepți în viclenia lor,

și planurile oamenilor înșelători sunt răsturnate:

14 dau peste întuneric în mijlocul*Deut. 28:29.Is. 59:10.Amos 8:9. zilei,

bâjbâie ziua-n amiaza mare ca noaptea.

15 Astfel, Dumnezeu ocrotește pe cel slab împotriva amenințărilor lor

și-l scapă*Ps. 35:10.1 Sam. 2:9. din mâna celor puternici,

16 așa*Ps. 107:42. încât nădejdea sprijină pe cel nenorocit,

iar fărădelegea își închide gura.

17 Ferice*Ps. 94:12.Prov. 3:11,12.Evr. 12:5.Iac. 1:12.Apoc. 3:19. de omul pe care-l ceartă Dumnezeu!

Nu nesocoti mustrarea Celui Atotputernic.

18 El face*Deut. 32:39.1 Sam. 2:6.Is. 30:26.Osea 6:1. rana și tot El o leagă;

El rănește, și mâna Lui tămăduiește.

19 De șase*Ps. 34:19;91:3.Prov. 24:16.1 Cor. 10:13. ori te va izbăvi din necaz

și de șapte*Ps. 91:10. ori nu te va atinge răul.

20 El te va scăpa de moarte în vreme de foamete*Ps. 33:19;37:19.

și de loviturile sabiei în vreme de război.

21 Vei fi la adăpost de biciul*Ps. 31:20. limbii,

vei fi fără teamă când va veni pustiirea.

22 Vei râde de pustiire, ca și de foamete,

și nu vei avea să te temi de fiarele*Is. 11:9;35:9;65:25.Ezec. 34:25. pământului.

23 Căci vei face legământ până și cu pietrele*Ps. 91:12.Osea 2:18. câmpului,

și fiarele pământului vor fi în pace cu tine.

24 Vei avea fericire în cortul tău,

îți vei găsi turmele întregi,

25 îți vei vedea sămânța*Ps. 112:2;72:16. crescându-ți

și odraslele înmulțindu-se ca iarba de pe câmp.

26 Vei intra în mormânt la bătrânețe*Prov. 9:11;10:27., ca snopul strâns la vremea lui.

27 Iată ce am cercetat*Ps. 111:2., și așa este!
